Chapter 27: That’s not how it works!
Siting and waiting was getting rather boring for Domnus.
Just a little bit ago he was getting several different customers all buying some Fire Charges, but that small rush had passed leading to another break.
It was just after lunch, some adventurers were still coming out of the dungeon to grab a quick meal and head back in.
Then, a mage looking adventurer started to walk up to Domnus with his nose up in the high floors of the dungeon.
"Excuse me," the adventurer said looking down at Domnus, "I have heard you are selling a fire creation item at this shop?" He asked.
"That I am!" Domnus replied taking one of the Fire Charges and showing to the man.
"I presume that it activates with the magic chant?" The man asked while looking at the Fire Charge.
"It does not!" Domnus replied holding it up, "Just a bit of momentum and a fire will be made!" Domnus told the man shoving it in front of his face.
"Why that is ridiculous," the man replied. "I am a mage with four years of experience and I have never come across such an item," the man while staring harder at Domnus.
"Well it's how it works," Domnus replied not knowing what the customer wants.
"Then allow me to see it," the man said stretching his hand out.
"Ten valis each you use it you buy it," Domnus said while handing the Fire Charge over.
"So all I must do to create a fire with this item is to have 'a bit of momentum' by throwing it?" The man said putting the hand with Fire Charge up high, "Unlikely," he said pitching down onto the ground in front of him.
And in front of him a fire was made. Causing the man to jump back surprised.
"What in the gods?" The man said, "How did the item create such a fire? I said no chant," the man asked looking at Domnus for answers.
"What did I tell you," Domnus shrugged, "By the way you owe me ten valis," Domnus then pointed out.
"But will you tell me exactly how it works!" the man exclaimed.
"First, can you pay me?" Domnus responded holding out his hand.
"Fine then," the man said putting ten valis in Domnus's hand, "Now may you tell me how it works?" the man asked rather annoyed.
"Thank you," Domnus said grateful, "And no can't give away the secrets of my stock, sorry," Domnus then tells the man.
"What do you mean no?" The man responded, "Why this matter is of great importance!"
"But is it?" Domnus responded .
"Yes, yes it is!" The man the retorted putting his hands high up, "This is a new discovery of one use affordable fire magic!" He said, "Though I suppose such an advancement is gone unrecognized in your hands, could I perhaps know of this items inventor," the man then asked putting his hands back down.
"While I can't clam all the credit for making this," Domnus admitted, "I was on of the lead creators of the Fire Charge," Domnus revealed to the man.
"You?" The man replied skeptical, "Perhaps one day you might tell me the truth, may I have thirty Fire Charges for research then?" The man then asked.
"Sure that will be three hundred valis," Domnus said ducking into his bag to grab the Fire Charges.
"Did you not hear me?" The man asked, "These are for research purposes," he explained.
"Yes, and for your research they will be threee hundred valis," Domnus replied confused.
"But these are for research," the man said once more "Therefore, you should be giving them to me so I will perhaps share my research with you," the man fully explained.
"Oh, I get it," Domnus replied, "But no three hundred valis please,"
"Well," the man responded hesitantly coughing up the three hundred valis, "Now I can get rich off of this and you will run out of them," he said before leaving.
Domnus was wondering how he was going to research a material which could burst into flames, but he didn't have to wonder too long.
"You!" someone said that Domnus couldn't quite recognize said, "You killed my adventurer! You got me fired! You ruined my life!" The yelled out.
"When did I get you fired?" Domnus said recognizing the old guild worker.
"Well apparently telling other guild workers about how you murdered my adventurer wasn't 'Aligned with the Guilds views' doesn't help you his all the evidence," The old worker said extremely annoyed.
"Sorry, but that's really not my fault," Domnus replied.
"Yes it is!" She yelled back, "You murdering my adventurer in cold blood started all of this!" The old guild worker said throwing her hands around herself.
"Sorry for something I didn't do," Domnus said back, "Now, would you like to buy something?"
"Of course not!" she yelled back.
"Then can you move your keeping up the line," Domnus said gesturing to the non-existent line behind her.
Looking behind herself to check if there was anyone the old guild worker got mad when she saw there was nobody behind her.
"One day I will get my revenge!" she swore heading off to somewhere.
"Sure are a lot of crazy people today," Domnus muttered to himself.
