Chapter 10: A Little Break
*Tweet! Tweet!*
The sky lit up brightly, the day began with all life awakening.
The sun's gentle rays peeked through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the small, cozy room. After a while, Gildarts stirred, his body protesting against the early morning light.
"Mhrm..." He groaned softly, stretching out his limbs as he wake's up.
"Ahh... What a night," he said happily to himself, sitting up and rubbing the sleep out from his eyes. For a moment, he sat there, gazing out at the peaceful village from the window. It was a quiet, calm morning, with the sound of birds chirping in the distance and the faint rustling of leaves carried by the breeze.
"Well, time to get up." Gildarts mutters to himself before getting ready, he washes up and does some light streches to start off the day.
*GROWL!!*
His stomach growled.
"Guess I should head downstairs for breakfast." He chuckled to himself and got dressed, slipping on his clothes before making his way down to the inn's dining area.
*Thud*
The door closes behind him as he walks down the stairs to get some food.
As he entered the bustling common area, the aroma of freshly cooked food hit him.
The place was already lively with patrons enjoying their morning meals. Oars was behind the counter, serving up orders with his usual gruff yet efficient manner.
Gildarts walked over and found a seat at one of the empty wooden tables, nodding to Oars, who gave him a quick nod in return.
*GRROWLL!!*
"Urgh...The smell is making me even more hungrier, I can't wait anymore!"
He calls a waitress over and orders some breakfast.
A waitress soon came back with a plate of steaming hot food—eggs, bacon, sausages, some freshly baked bread, and a bowl of soup.
"Enjoy!" she said with a warm smile before heading off to the next table.
"Thank you, I will!" Gildarts replied.
*Gulp*
Gildarts swallows his drool at the sight of the magnificent food before him!
"Thanks for the food!" Gildarts said before digging into his scrumptious meal, he started by grabbing a piece of bread and some bacons before tearing into it, he then goes for the sausage and eggs next.
As he ate, he listened in on to the chatter and noises around him. People were discussing the day's plans, sharing gossip, and talking about the recent happenings in the village. He caught snippets about some new merchants arriving, a small festival being planned for the coming week, and the usual complaints about taxes.
His thoughts wandered as he ate, taking in the Inn's atmosphere. 'It's nice to be in a place like this for a change. Peaceful... and quiet.'
*Burp!*
"Phew! That was amazing!"
Finishing his meal, Gildarts leaned back in his chair, leaning back with a satisfied sigh. It was a rare feeling for him, back in his old world, having a morning like this without any immediate or urgent task looming over him. But he knew it wouldn't last forever. Soon enough, something would come up. It always did.
For now, though, he had a little time to relax and explore.
...
After paying for his meal, Gildarts decided to take a walk around the village.
He left the Oar's Inn and decided to just walk around without any goal in mind. He randomly chose a direction and started going that way.
Along the way, Gildarts realizes that the streets were coming to life as vendors set up their stalls and villagers went about their daily routines. He wandered around aimlessly, enjoying the sight of children playing, merchants carting their goods to the market, craftsmen busy in their workshops working, and adventurer's walking around preparing for the days work.
Gildarts thoroughly enjoyed this novel experience of exploring a medival fantasy village to his hearts content. It was something that didn't exist back in his world afterall!
"Now that I think about... the otaku's back in my world would do anything to be in my place right now!" He mutters to himself.
'Afterall, this was that they loved wholeheartedly and something they could only dream about... especially it's culture~!'
Gildarts thought to himself while leering at the street, that is bustling with beatiful women of all kinds, with a perverted face!
"Mama, that uncle is making a weird face!"
A nearby child who saw his face and told her mother my pointing at Gildarts.
"SHIT!!" He decided to make a run for it before he gets labelled as a pervert, which he obviously isn't! Afterall, all he did was admire beauty, he definitely wasn't oogling the ladies!
ABSOLUTELY NOT!
During his tactical retreat, he runs past the village square and passes by some crowds before slowing down and coming to a stop. Gildarts finds himself outside a small building with a sign that read,
[Doctor Morsen's Clinic].
He stared at the sign for a moment before deciding to go in. 'Might as well check it out to make sure everything's alright.' he thought to himself.
*Clang!*
The bell on top the door rang aloud when he opened the door of the clinic, announcing his presence.
Gildarts takes in the view of the clinic after stepping in.
Inside, the clinic was small but tidy, with shelves lined up with jars of herbs and potions. The place had a subtle scent of herbs present along with a distinct silence due to the lack of customers.
Only an older man with spectacles perched on his nose sat at a desk scribbling away on his notes, not yet aware of his presence.
"Hello?" Gildarts calls out to get the man's attention.
"Huh, a patient? Sorry, I'll be with you right now!" The doctor looked up in surprise from his notes before standing up, adjusting his glasses, as he apologized for his negligence.
"No issues, don't worry about it!" Gildarts waves it off.
"So? What can I do for you... Mister-?"
"Gildarts" He replies.
"Right, Mr. Gildarts! I am Doctor Morsen! It's a pleasure to meet you, what can I do for you!" He continued on animatedly.
"Well Dr. Morsen... I was wondering if you could do a check up on me?" Gildarts asked.
"The thing is... I'm a wizard and I had just been through a rough time recently, and while I've managed to get myself healed, I just wanted to make sure that there isn't any problems with my body."
"Of course! Have a seat, and I'll take a look."
The doctor went into the backroom and started searching for something.
*Thud! Thing! Clang!*
Loud noises of things being moved or thrown aside could be heard as the doctor searched through the room.
"AHA! Found it!" He exclaimed, holding a metal trinket in his hand as he walked out of the room.
"Here, stand still. This is a special magic item that lets me scan your body and understand a subject. I heard that it was made by a wizard who used Archive Magic!" Doctor Morsen informed.
"I see." Gildarts replied as he stood before the doctor.
*Beep! Beep! Beep!*
With a few push of buttons and moving some parts, the magic item started working as its lacrima started glowing before it cast a bright light and scanned Gildarts body, checking his vitals and searching for any internal injuries.
After a few minutes.
*Ding!*
The machine lets out a chime as it finished scanning and displayed its report.
"Hmm... You're body is fine, with nothing that seems out of place." Dr. Mosen said after a few seconds. "No serious issues. Just a bit of strain here and there, but that's to be expected with your line of work. Make sure you rest up properly and don't strain your body."
"Here, take some of this cream. It will help you heal your body, just smear it all over your body before you take a bath!"
Gildarts nodded, feeling a weight lift from his shoulders. "Thanks doctor, That's good to hear!"
"Your welcome. If you need anything else, don't hesitate to stop by." Dr. Morsen sent Gildarts off with a wave.
...
After leaving the clinic, Gildarts continued his walk through the village. He stopped by a few stalls, chatting with the locals, and even had lunch from different street stalls. The people here were friendly and welcoming, and he enjoyed their way of life, far removed from the monotonous life that he usually led.
As Gildarts finished exploring most of the places in the village, time flew by and the sun had started setting. By the time late evening approached, Gildarts decided that it was time to return back to the inn.
Seeing the signboard of the [Oar's Inn] in the distance, Gildarts quickens his pace to return home.
It was already dark by the time he had returned to his room, people were on their way back to their home, the night stalls and pubs were opening, and the night life just begining. However, Gildarts was too tired for it, so he decided against going out again.
Gildarts decided to wash up and take a short nap to rest before dinner and then call it a day.
A few hours pass by and Gildarts wakes up lazily with a hungry stomach.
After doing a few streches to lose the tiredness from his body, he freshen's up, not forgetting to use the medical cream, and descended down to the common room to have dinner.
Walking into the familiar place, seeing the rushing waitresses and the bustling patrons having dinner, put a large smile on Gildarts place.
"Excuse me! Can I get some food and something to drink with it!" He exclaims loudly before sitting down with the others.
The night went by with Gildarts having an amazing dinner and some booze to drown the food with.
Once again, the day came to an end with the noise and bustle from the inn dying out and the people dispersing as night fell.
Soon, everything fell into silence as darkness took over.
