Conqueror’s Desire

Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Facing the Past

After a while, MC and Nami finally arrived at the edge of Cocoyasi Village—a place that, though it appeared peaceful, held countless memories for Nami—bitter memories that were hard for her to forget. MC walked beside her, ever vigilant and ready to protect her if needed. The tension in the air was palpable, as if an unresolved threat from Nami's past loomed over them.

This village was once a home filled with laughter and life, but now—after Arlong's reign—everything felt different. Although the houses along the street still stood intact, there was a silence so deep and real. Every villager they encountered bowed their head, as if too afraid to speak or even glance in their direction.

Nami paused for a moment."We've arrived," she said, her voice laden with anxiety and fear.

MC nodded and surveyed their surroundings."This isn't what I imagined. Everyone looks so frightened," he remarked, his eyes scanning the villagers, busy yet devoid of smiles or peace.

"It's all because of Arlong," Nami replied softly, almost as a whisper. "He rules this village with power and terror. Everyone here works for him, and those who defy him… are punished."

MC finally understood why Nami carried such a heavy burden. The village, which should have been a place of comfort and happy memories, was now filled with sorrow and oppression."They're afraid of you, Nami," he said, attempting to shift the mood. "They know who you are."

Suddenly, a familiar voice echoed from afar.

"Nami!"That voice was so familiar that Nami immediately turned. Ari, an old friend who had always supported her, emerged from behind a house. Her eyes were full of worry, yet there was a hint of relief upon seeing Nami return.

"Nami, you… you're finally back," Ari panted, catching her breath. "We've all been so worried about you."

Nami offered a slight smile, though sadness still lingered in her eyes."Ari, I…I don't know what to do anymore. Arlong still rules this village. No one can stand up to him."

MC stepped forward, carefully observing the complex situation in the village."We will bring about change, Nami. Nothing will stop us."

Ari looked at MC with an expression of deep gratitude, though fear still shone in her eyes."You're right, Nami. But we must be cautious. Arlong won't let you leave so easily."

Nami drew a deep breath, as if trying to steady herself."I know. But this time, I won't run away. I want to end it all."

After a brief discussion, they decided to hide for a while and plan their next move. MC led them to a safer spot near the forest, far from the ever-watchful eyes of Arlong's men who constantly patrolled the village.

A Heavy Burden of Planning

In that secluded place, MC, Nami, and Ari sat together. MC began to devise a strategy, though every step seemed fraught with difficulty. Arlong, with his immense strength and far-reaching influence, was not an enemy easily overcome.

"We must proceed with caution," MC said, his eyes fixed sharply on the village map that Ari had brought. "Arlong undoubtedly knows that Nami has returned. We can't act rashly."

Nami nodded in agreement."I've promised myself I'd free this village, but I also know I must confront my own fears. Arlong… he still controls so much here. I'm scared of failing again."

MC looked at her with understanding."You won't fail, Nami. We're here to support each other. You're not the same person you once were. You're stronger now."

Ari smiled faintly."You're right, Nami. We all know you have the strength to fight Arlong, but this isn't just about physical power. It's about overcoming the fear that has held us captive for so long."

After a few seconds of silence, MC spoke up once more:"We'll move out tonight. We need to gather information, search for a weak spot in their defenses. If we can defeat Arlong, we can free this village."

Confrontation with Arlong

Night fell, and they decided to take action. MC, Nami, and Ari crept stealthily toward Arlong's headquarters, located in the heart of the village. They knew this move was dangerous, but there was no other choice if they wished to end the village's suffering.

When they reached the vicinity of the headquarters, they saw several of Arlong's men posted on guard. MC whispered softly,"We have to be careful. They're watching everywhere."

Nami clenched her hands, trying to steady herself."I can't live in his shadow any longer. This is our moment."
