Chapter 15: Snippet 3: Douluo Dalu: I have a Niffler as my Martial Spirit?:- Chapter 8

8. First time cultivating the Jade Body Refining Art.

│3rd Person POV │

[Douluo Continent, Heaven Dou Empire, Heaven Dou City, Dugu Mansion...]

"By the way, Xiao Chen," Dugu Xin asked, his curiosity piqued, "How did you come to learn about the poison problem that's been affecting the Dugu family for so long?"

His question broke the brief silence that had followed Dugu Bo's declaration about their cultivation plans, and everyone turned their attention to Dugu Chen, waiting for an answer.

Upon hearing Dugu Xin's question, Dugu Chen had an expression of realization, as if he just remembered something. Immediately, he retrieved another book from his Scarlet Autumn Storage Ring and handed it to his grandfather.

"This is the book I found in the Storage Ring yesterday," Dugu Chen explained. "It was written by Elder Mu Qingqiu herself.

"In the book, she describes the various poisons she encountered throughout her life, the methods she used to counter them, and how her Body Cultivation Technique helped her endure and overcome them."

As he spoke, Dugu Chen's tone became more thoughtful. "After reading this, I realized that our green hair is actually a sign of being deeply poisoned. Elder Mu Qingqiu once came across a Poison Attribute Spirit Mage who poisoned himself by consuming more poison than his body could handle in an attempt to gain strength quickly."

He sighed, adding, "Unfortunately, there aren't any Pills in the Storage Ring that can directly cure our poisoned state. The only options we have right now are to either begin cultivating the Jade Body Refining Art or to learn Elder Mu Qingqiu's Alchemy Techniques and create the right pill ourselves."

Upon hearing Dugu Chen's explanation, Dugu Bo, Dugu Xin, and Mo Ying quickly began flipping through the pages, and their expressions grew increasingly thoughtful.

Indeed, everything Dugu Chen had explained was confirmed in the book, and after careful consideration, they all agreed that practicing the Jade Body Refining Art was the more beneficial and feasible option for them at this time.

Learning Mu Qingqiu's Alchemy techniques would take years of dedicated study and practice.

Furthermore, aside from Dugu Chen, none of their Martial Souls possessed the necessary affinity for the Fire and Wood attributes, which were crucial for learning the art of Alchemy.

Without these affinities, even if they tried, it would be nearly impossible to perform the intricate processes involved in Alchemy. Thus, the path of cultivating the Jade Body Refining Art was not only faster but more feasible for them in their current situation.

"Very well, I'll go out and gather the materials needed to begin cultivating the Jade Body Refining Art," Dugu Bo said, returning the two books to Dugu Chen.

"But Grandpa, the Storage Ring already contains a significant amount of the materials needed for the Jade Body Refining Art," Dugu Chen explained. "With these, all four of us can begin cultivating the technique, and still have some left over for the next few months."

Dugu Bo shook his head and replied, "While that's a good start, those materials won't last indefinitely. We need to secure a reliable source to replenish them."

He paused for a moment, his gaze thoughtful, before continuing, "I'll start by exploring nearby regions and tapping into my connections to locate places where we can find resources Jade Essence Crystal and Jade Spirit Fruits. This cultivation method is too important for us to risk running out of materials.

"In the meantime, Xin'er, Ying'er, and Chen'er, the three of you should begin cultivating with the materials available in the Storage Ring. Resolving my poison issue isn't an urgent matter right now," Dugu Bo said firmly.

"However, I'll go ahead and start practicing the Heaven's Eye Spirit Refinement Art since it doesn't require any special materials for cultivation. That's correct, isn't it, Chen'er?" he added, turning to his grandson for confirmation.

Dugu Chen gave a nod in agreement.

Dugu Xin appeared as though he wanted to voice a concern, but a single stern look from his father silenced him. Swallowing his words, he managed a strained smile and said, "Understood, Father. We'll follow your instructions."

"Absolutely," Mo Ying chimed in, her voice steady with determination. "This is a chance we can't afford to miss. Rest assured, Father—I'll personally see to it that Brother Xin stays diligent in his training."

Mo Ying was undoubtedly the most relieved and joyful at that moment.

Dugu Chen smiled, reassured by their determination. "Grandpa, Father, Mother, I'll also keep studying Elder Mu Qingqiu's notes. Who knows? There might be more insights that could help us refine our cultivation or find more esoteric knowledge."

Dugu Bo offered a smile of approval at Dugu Chen's words. "That's the spirit, Chen'er. Together, we'll ensure our family rises above this curse and paves the way to a brighter future. Everyone has their role to play, and I'll do mine."

With those words, Dugu Bo turned and strode out of the courtyard.

As his figure disappeared into the distance, Dugu Chen turned back to his parents, "We shouldn't waste any time either. Let's start preparing to cultivate the Jade Body Refining Art immediately. I'll sort through the materials from the Storage Ring and divide them accordingly.

"Meanwhile, both of you read this book and memorize the cultivation technique within."

Saying so, Dugu Chen took out the book containing the Heaven's Eye Spirit Refining Art and gave it to his parents.

Accepting the book, Dugu Xin and Mo Ying exchanged a look of mutual understanding before nodding. "You're right," Dugu Xin said. "We need to make the most of this opportunity. Let's begin."

The family quickly set to work, their hearts lighter than they had been in years. While there was still much to do, for the first time, they felt they were truly stepping toward a future unshackled by their poisoned legacy.

Following the instructions in the manual, Dugu Chen retrieved several Jade Essence Crystals from the Storage Ring, their translucent green surfaces glowing faintly with an otherworldly light.

He placed the crystals into a large, specially prepared wooden tub filled with pristine water drawn from a nearby spring.

As the crystals soaked, they began to dissolve slowly, releasing a gentle stream of Jade Essence into the water. The liquid gradually took on a soft, greenish hue, shimmering with vitality and energy. The atmosphere in the bathroom seemed to shift, the faint scent of minerals and earth mixing with a calming, refreshing aura emanating from the tub.

Once the Jade Essence Crystals had diminished to half their initial size, Dugu Chen completely undressed and stepped into the tub.

The moment his skin made contact with the water, a cool, soothing sensation spread through his body. It was as if the Jade Essence was not just touching his skin but seeping into him, easing his muscles and calming his mind.

Sitting cross-legged in the water, Dugu Chen began circulating his Soul Power according to the method described in the Jade Body Refining Art.

The method was gentle yet precise, absorbing and guiding the Jade Essence through his meridians and throughout his body. He visualized the essence as a soft, jade-colored mist flowing along his pathways, sinking into every corner of his being.

Initially, the process was slow, his body resisting the foreign energy. But as he focused, a strange synergy began to emerge. The Jade Essence seemed to accept him, melding effortlessly with his Soul Power and infusing itself deeper into his cells.

His skin tingled faintly, and a slight warmth replaced the initial coolness, signaling the activation of the purifying effect.

The warmth steadily intensified, shifting from mild discomfort to a searing sensation that bordered on pain. While not unbearable, it felt like an incessant itch buried deep within, one he couldn't soothe no matter how hard he tried.

At the same time, he also felt the impurities in his body being drawn out, subtle at first but growing in intensity as the technique continued. Beads of sweat appeared on his brow, and the water in the tub became slightly murkier, evidence of the toxins leaving his body.

So, Dugu Chen silently endured the refining process, and just like that three hours passed.

After three hours of continuous effort, Dugu Chen felt a profound lightness within himself. His breathing was steady, his mind calm, and his body felt refreshed yet subtly stronger.

The water in the tub, which had once shimmered with a vibrant green hue, was now murky and lifeless, its potent essence fully absorbed into Dugu Chen's body. The Jade Essence Crystals, too, had dissolved entirely, their energy consumed as the first step in refining his body into one resembling flawless Jade.

Dugu Chen opened his eyes, a faint jade-like glow shimmering in them for a moment before fading. He clenched his fists experimentally and felt a subtle but definite increase in his physical strength and vitality.

"This is just the beginning," he murmured to himself, his voice filled with determination. "If things continue like this, our family's future will truly be different. We won't have to lower ourselves to anyone for just a defective method to solve our problem."

With that thought, Dugu Chen stood up, dried himself, and checked himself in the mirror.

With a single glance, he noticed that the roots of his hair had turned a vivid crimson, while the color of his eyes had deepened significantly, now resembling the rich, luminous hue of jade, a sign that he had started cultivating the Jade Body Refining Art.

"Huh, so this is what it would've been like if I hadn't been born poisoned," Dugu Chen mused, observing the changes in his appearance. "I would have had crimson hair, just like Mother."

Then, he got dressed and stepped out of the bathroom. He needed to inform his parents about the positive results of his training session and then begin his cultivation of the Heaven's Eye Spirit Refining Art.
