Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Straight Out of Our Dream Journal

The elevator stopped after a quick ascend. As the door slid open, Eve was greeted by a spacious main hall.

The mansion looked like a regular polished white mansion that came straight out of a fairytale from the outside, but inside, it was more of old colonial style architecture, with a wooden floor, tall ceiling, and tall arched windows. There was a big, old chandelier in the middle, and most importantly, the wall was more of an oyster white, which made the mansion feel more homey despite being inhabited by only one man.

If Eve could describe it further, this mansion was very similar to the one owned by Jay Gatsby from the Great Gatsby movie.

"Like it?" Alex asked as they walked into the main hall.

"Mm, not bad," Eve commented. If she could be honest, she'd say that everything was perfect. From the old colonial style and the color, down to the view of the garden coming from the window, everything simply matched her taste. But she was too prideful to say that, so 'not bad' was the highest compliment she could give. "Did you buy this mansion or build it from the ground up?"

"Bought, and renovated it completely to match my preference," Alex lied once more. Truthfully, he didn't like living in a huge mansion all by himself. He was already very lonely growing up in a mansion with his father, so he preferred a smaller home, preferably that studio apartment he rented with Eve when they first started their dream in Los Angeles.

Nevertheless, he also bought this mansion and renovated it according to Eve's taste. She always talked about everything to him, including her dream mansion and all.

Now that he finally had the chance to show the mansion to its rightful owner, it didn't feel as good as he expected.

'I wish you'd just let loose and show your excitement, Eve. You can barely hide your joy right now,' Alex thought as he noticed how Eve was hugging her arms, a habit when she was bottling a big emotion inside her heart. 'I want you to jump into my arms out of excitement, then hug and kiss me while we enter our mansion. Is that too much to ask?'

Eve might be trying to hide her excitement, but from the way, she tried to hide her smile down to how she walked around the main hall before Alex could give her a tour already showed that she was really happy with what she saw right now, and that put a smile on Alex's face.

It's not the hug and kisses he expected, but seeing Eve getting so excited over this house made it all worth it for him.

'This isn't so bad, I guess,' Alex thought.

He stared at Eve who slid her finger on an antique chair to feel the wood, and explained, "All of the furniture are antiques. I carefully picked them and paid a curator to authorize and paid someone to polish them… according to my taste, of course."

"I can tell," Eve curled her lips. She was a woman with big dreams, and she noticed that everything in this mansion was full of the stuff she dreamed about when she was younger.

She didn't know whether it was truly Alex's taste, or if he was just following their dream journal, but she preferred to think it was the former.

It would've been easier for her if Alex never really cared about her, to begin with, and definitely easier to keep everything strictly business with no feelings attached.

"Well, everything is perfect and foolishly expensive. May I know how much you spend on everything?"

Alex paused for a second and said, "Forty million, excluding the cars."

Eve held her breath as she stared at him in disbelief. She waited for him to say the correct number, but he said something else instead, "Don't give me that look, Eve. You already know my real identity, and it's not a big amount for me."

Eve quickly fixed her expression. She knew he was filthy rich, but to think that he was THAT rich made her feel even more humiliated.

Eve scoffed, "To think we shared a cup of ramen noodles back then. How stupid."

"It's not stupid. It was the most delicious cup of ramen I've ever tasted," Alex refuted. He paused for a moment and added, "Because I shared it with you."

Eve's lips thinned as her gaze turned ugly. She turned around and faced the grand staircase to the second floor, "I'm curious about my room. Why don't you show me the way?"

'I shouldn't have said that,' Alex told himself as he clenched his fist, trying to endure the stinging sensation in his heart. He instantly regretted admitting the truth, as Eve's reaction was far worse than what he expected.

Swallowing his embarrassment, he led the way through the spiraling staircase and long corridor until they reached the door at the end.

He turned towards Eve and said, "This room is your room, but I'll visit this room often, just so you know. I have to make sure that everything is according to our deal."

Eve was already excited to see her room until he mentioned that, of course.

She scowled as her excitement died down instantly. She forgot about the whole business deal for a moment, because she was excited about the dream home.

Now that she was reminded once more about her responsibility in this deal, she had to be professional.

"Fine, then let's get this over with. Let me see my new room."

Alex had a thin smile as he was satisfied with her answer. He pushed the mahogany door open, and Eve gasped instantly.

No, not because of the beautiful room that came straight out of her dream journal. She gasped because all her luggage was already in the middle of the room, including the painting of their handprints!

She stormed into the room and grabbed the painting immediately.

Alex smirked at her reaction. He leaned at the door and teased, "I thought you said you wanted to burn that painting yesterday. Did you forget?"
