Brainwashed Then Woke Up To Find My Childhood Friend a Hero

chapter 34

34. The Thunder Body Can Become the Thunder God

Damn it, what the hell is this guy doing? It’s cheating! Cheating!

Rainer cursed inwardly.

The Grand Sage met Rainer’s charge with blades of wind moving at the speed of sound.

It was difficult to perceive, and at that speed, he would have been reduced to a mass of flesh if it weren’t for him.

Rainer moved at high speed, half of his body transformed into lightning.

The divine revelation, “Thunder Body,” is the process by which all magical power is converted into lightning. It is both a gift and a curse from the heavens. Because Rainer cannot use magic.

That is why, in his youth, he learned to wield lightning, utilizing the process by which magical power transforms into lightning within his body, allowing him to become lightning himself.

However, this transformation was limited to his limbs; he had never fully converted his entire body into lightning. When he becomes lightning, his body is replaced by it. In other words, turning everything into lightning carries the risk of losing oneself.

He once saved the Holy Kingdom. It was when

a squad of the Demon King’s assassination unit suddenly appeared on the sacred peak of the Holy Kingdom.

A terrifying unit that had assassinated many key figures from various nations. Rainer single-handedly eradicated them.

As thunder roared and flashes of light streaked across the sacred peak, the people began to call him “Thunder Body.”

However, when people learned that he could not use magic at all, they looked down on him. He made those who spoke with disdain understand through sheer force. Perhaps due to his excessive personality,

the imposition of understanding through such extreme violence

was more fitting to label him a monster than a hero.

And the priests in the Holy Land exploited that infamy,

treating him as a bodyguard to protect themselves,

and ultimately, as a mere handyman.

Whether it was due to his inherent brutality or the power to fulfill his desires, Rainer had never faced adversity.

Now, he stood at a crossroads.

◇◇◇

I really don’t want to make such a bad bet,

but with the solid magical barrier, it seems impossible to break through using existing techniques. Therefore, I have no choice but to create something new. That means becoming the lightning myself.

He makes his decision while dodging the blades of wind.

With a flash of light, he faces the Great Sage.

“Oh? What’s the matter? Have you made up your mind to die?”

The Great Sage’s eyes remain dark, not looking at Rainer.

“No, that’s not it. I don’t like your attitude, and I don’t like that you don’t even seem to be fighting.”

In response to Rainer’s provocation, the Great Sage replies with a puzzled expression.

“Is that so? But you can’t deliver a decisive blow to me, can you?”

What the Great Sage said was true, but still!

Lightning crackles around Rainer’s body.

Crackle! Crackle!

The overflowing lightning scorches and singes the nearby weeds.

“Is this what you call a desperate strike?”

The Great Sage swings his staff several times, raising a shield.

“I told you! It’s my dream to defeat a hero like you!!”

Rainer transforms all of himself into lightning.

<Thunder God>

It is fitting to describe the roaring thunder that is unleashed at the speed of light.

It was thought to strike the Great Sage.

The Great Sage Diverges

The surrounding area is scorched, and at the center of the desolation stand Raynel and the Great Sage.

“Too bad, you missed.”

Perhaps having exhausted his magical power, Raynel kneels, looking at the Great Sage with resentment.

“Why didn’t it hit? I should have moved towards you.”

A smile forms on the Great Sage’s face as he murmurs,

“That’s simple. Lightning has a tendency to strike where conditions like humidity and temperature are favorable. I created the path for it.”

The Great Sage places a hand on his chest, speaking proudly.

Seeing this, Raynel lowers his face and laughs.

“Heh heh heh…”

The Great Sage asks, “What’s so funny?”

“Well, don’t you think it’s ridiculous? Thanks a lot! You really went out of your way to be fooled!”

At this, the Great Sage turns to look behind him.

The house that should have been there is charred by lightning,

on the verge of collapse.

“I was aiming for this from the start! You’ve lost!”

Raynel declares, reveling in the fact that he has successfully tricked him.

The Great Sage is clearly shaken.

His hands tremble, and his eyes widen.

Then, as if regaining his composure, he ignores Raynel and casts a spell to summon rain over the house to extinguish the flames.

“Eh, Elg… Elg, Elg, Elg!”

The Great Sage frantically searches through the debris for Elg.

What he finds is a charred, blackened humanoid form.

“Ah… ah…”

The Great Sage kneels, cradling the figure.

Tears spill from his eyes.

Those tears are black, and his eyes become stained with darkness.

“Ah, aaa!”

An alien, darkened magical power overflows from his being.

“What on earth… is that?”

Rainer feels a sense of dread at the unseen, otherworldly figure.

The curse writhes.
