Brainwashed Then Woke Up To Find My Childhood Friend a Hero

chapter 33

33. The Grand Sage’s Magic

Surrounded by countless spells, Gildia and his party find themselves in a tight spot.

Gildia clicks his tongue and calmly issues commands.

“Everyone! <Protect yourselves!!>”

In response, they all brace themselves as stones are hurled from the front.

Not by magic, but by the physical attacks of the golems.

“W-What’s happening!?”

“Is this some kind of trap!? What is this?”

Complaints spill from their lips, which Gildia rebukes.

“Shut up and fight! Those who chatter will be the first to die!”

At his words, they all shrink back but endure the onslaught. The freezing cold dulls their judgment and slows their movements. Then, rain begins to fall.

From that rain, blood trickles down the cheeks of several.

“Wh-!?”

“Everyone! <Stop the rain!>”

Thanks to their quick response to Gildia’s command, they manage to withstand the torrential downpour that follows.

Thud thud thud thud!

The thin rain, turned to hail by the cold, falls like needles. They defend with magic and shields, but fatigue begins to accumulate.

“Dammit…!”

Gildia laments this disastrous situation,

anxiety creeping in about whether he can endure for another 30 minutes.

◇◇◇

“Hmm, quite resilient, aren’t you?”

Kelt observes from beside a solitary house in the forest,

watching idly.

He had thought it a clever trap to divert the golem’s gaze with rocks, then strike with a rain of ice.

“Just as expected of a chancellor.”

Now then,

In an instant, a flash like lightning streaks through the air,

but Kelt has already turned around, unleashing his magic,

slicing through the forest with blades of wind.

“!”

Crackling!!

Amidst the thunderous noise, Lynel leaps to evade.

“Well, that’s a rare revelation. To become one with lightning.”

Kelt calmly analyzes as he swings his staff,

summoning blades of wind.

Lynel barely manages to dodge and deflect the supersonic attack.

“Ah! Is that so?!”

Perhaps due to the interruption of his strategy,

Lynel responds without composure.

And once again, a deafening roar erupts,

as he attempts to strike Kelt with his fist.

Gooonn!

The blow, propelled by Lynel’s lightning speed,

is thwarted by Kelt’s robust magical barrier.

“I can tell that lightning is born of magical power, so it’s simple enough to defend against it with magic.”

The Grand Sage swings his staff once more, floating effortlessly.

“Still, it’s strange, isn’t it? Why did you abandon your comrades and come here?”

Rainer, with a wry smile despite the dire situation, spat out his response.

“Comrades? No way! That was just bait, to draw your attention!”

Kelt laughed as he replied.

“Yet that seems odd. That wouldn’t explain why you’re on the back foot, would it? It’s simple then; you came to steal what belongs to me in this house, didn’t you?”

Kelt’s dark eyes glinted with persistence, revealing an obsession that seemed to overlook Rainer entirely.

“I see. Indeed, you’re not in your right mind.”

Rainer glared at Kelt, who was intent on not letting him take aim at the house.

“So, do you have any last words?”

The Grand Sage waved his staff, conjuring numerous golems—not simple traps, but iron golems made of various metals. He sent them to support the trap golems.

And there stood the two facing each other.

“You’ve been dreaming all this time! Defeating the heroes from storybooks!!”

Rainer roared with a flash of light.
