Chapter 8: Chapter: 8
Chapter: 8
It took me about ten minutes to walk to the abandoned church, just enough time to recharge some of the energy I'd used up summoning Excalibur. As I approached, I could sense multiple energy signatures coming from inside. Koneko, Kiba, and Issei were in there, and Rias and Akeno weren't far off either.
"So they started the party without me, huh?" I muttered, raising my hand. Dark energy swirled around me as my eyes began to shimmer silver. "Let the chaos commence."
With a twist of my wrist, I summoned my scythe, charging it with lightning, and unleashed a devastating slash. The door—and half the church—split in two as I walked in, the remnants of the building crumbling behind me. Inside, I found Koneko standing alone, surrounded by lifeless bodies. Stray Exorcists were scattered around her, all eyes on the doorway. Specifically, on me.
"Sup, Koneko? Where are the others?"
Koneko didn't answer, but instead, she pointed down. I nodded and then turned to face the group of Exorcists who snapped out of their shock and rushed at me. Light swords and guns raised, they charged. I sighed deeply.
Ten of them? Really?
With a flick of my wrist, a cloak of crackling lightning enveloped me, and I vanished in a streak of silver, reappearing behind the Exorcists. I twirled my scythe, cutting through the air with surgical precision. Blood sprayed, their bodies disintegrating as I continued to move through them. They didn't stand a chance.
"Godspeed Ten Slashes."
I turned my attention to Koneko. Seeing that some of the Exorcists were still harassing her, I summoned five ice spears and hurled them at the attackers. They pinned the Exorcists to the church walls, and with their attention diverted, I deflected a few light bullets that were fired in my direction. The scythe morphed into liquid metal, forming a protective barrier around me.
As the bullets ceased, the liquid began to take shape. Slowly, it reformed into a large, black cross, with silver veins running through it like cracks in the earth, glowing faintly. The intersection had a trigger, and at the bottom of the cross was a silver glow.
"Let me show you what a real gun looks like," I muttered under my breath, feeling the veins pulse. I turned to Koneko. "Jump!"
Without hesitation, Koneko leaped into the air just as I pulled the trigger. A blinding silver beam shot from the cross, vaporizing the Exorcists in a single, clean sweep. The beam died down, leaving only ash and silence in its wake.
Koneko landed beside me, giving me a deadpan stare.
"What's that look for?" I asked.
She pointed at the cross in my hand. "What's that?"
"This?" I grinned. "This is the Crucifix, the true form of the black scythe you've seen me use."
"...Ah."
"You should probably join up with the others. I'll go say hi to Rias now. Toodles!" I said, teleporting away before Koneko could argue.
With Rias, a few minutes earlier.
"It's obvious you're here to stop the ritual, and we can't allow that," Dohnaseek snarled. His cold blue eyes narrowed as he stood beside his two companions. Dohnaseek, a middle-aged man with dark hair, wore a gray trench coat over a dress shirt and ascot. His appearance was sharp, calculating.
"You'll pay for it with your lives!" Kalawarna, a towering woman with a sultry, dangerous air, hissed. Her navy blue hair cascaded around her, hiding one eye, and her revealing trench coat clung to her curves. She raised her wings, her confidence radiating from her.
Rias and Akeno remained unfazed.
"Really now, I wouldn't be so sure if I were you," Rias said, her voice smooth, almost bored.
"Akeno," she called.
"Already on it," Akeno replied, raising her hand. Thunderclouds began to swirl above, the air crackling with power. A bolt of lightning struck her, and in a flash, her school uniform transformed into her traditional miko attire—white haori with red hakama.
"No fair, I wasn't told to bring costumes to this fight!" Mittelt complained. Mittelt was a girl with blonde hair which was styled into twin-tails and blue eyes She wore a Gothic Lolita attire, which consisted of a black dress with white frills, a large black bow on the front, and a green jewel embedded on the collar, white thigh-high socks with suspender garters, black set of frilly panties, and black shoes. She also wore a large black bow on top of her hair.
Akeno smirked as she created a barrier, trapping the three Fallen Angels in a cage of energy.
"It's a barrier!" Dohnaseek shouted.
"Well, we're totally screwed now," Mittelt muttered.
Akeno let out a slow, sadistic chuckle. "Catching my prey in a cage? Gets me so hot!"
"So this was your plan all along?" Kalawarna sneered.
"Yep… and I'm going to take a whole lot of pleasure watching you three suffer," Akeno said with a smile that could send chills down anyone's spine. "Hope you're into S&M."
"That's totally gross," Mittelt said, as she floated above them.
Rias smirked. "End of the line for you."
"Go ahead and act as confident as you want," Kalawarna taunted.
"The ritual is almost finished. Once it's over—"
Bang!
Dohnaseek's threat was cut short by a blinding silver beam shooting from the church.
Now
"What?!" Dohnaseek shouted.
"What's going on over there?" Kalawarna demanded, looking confused.
"Totally not cool," Mile groaned.
"Ah, so Kouki is here," Rias said, her tone flat and unconcerned.
"Quite the destructive one, isn't he?" Akeno chuckled, amused by the sudden turn of events.
Kalawarna's eyes narrowed. "What did you damn devils do?!"
Rias didn't have time to respond before Kouki's voice rang out.
"Now that's not nice. What made you think I was a devil? You wound me."
Everyone turned to the sound of his voice, and there he was—Kouki, strolling toward them with a grin that could only be described as devilish.
"And here I thought you weren't going to show," Rias said, a teasing glint in her eyes.
"And miss this? You must be insane," Kouki shot back, casually slinging the Crucifix over his shoulder.
Rias raised an eyebrow. "Finally bringing that out, I see."
"I felt it was about time," Kouki replied with a smirk.
"Don't ignore us!" Mittelt shouted.
"No, no," Kouki said, smirking. "I wasn't ignoring you. Pfft, fuck yeah I was."
"Gr—I'll kill you!" Dohnaseek snapped.
"You know," Rias began, "your threat would be a lot more intimidating if you actually sounded threatening."
Dohnaseek crossed her arms. "Are you mocking me?"
"No, no, pfft, fuck yeah I was," Rias said with a smirk, fist-bumping Kouki as they shared a moment of ridiculous camaraderie.
"Alright, Akeno, Rias," Kouki turned to them. "How do we want to do this? Each of us take one?"
"Yep," both of them said, nodding in agreement.
"It doesn't matter who we pick. They're all weak anyway, right?" Kouki asked, his grin growing wider.
"No," Rias said with a wry smile.
"Of course not," Akeno added, her voice sweet but laced with menace.
"Are you mocking us?" Dohnaseek spat.
"Do you really want to answer that again?" Kouki asked with a deadpan expression.
"You humans are always this cocky," Kalawarna growled, wings flaring.
"Really now?" Kouki said, turning to Rias and Akeno. "Do you mind if I take all three?"
"Ara ara, selfish, aren't you? But sure, go ahead," Akeno said, giving him an approving smile.
"Be my guest," Rias added, cracking her knuckles.
"Wonderful," Kouki said, turning back to the Fallen Angels. "Now, come at me all of you!"
