Chapter 2: Enter Zangetsu!
Zangetsu Tsukishiro POV
Two figures could be seen clashing on top of a destroyed Hokage monument "this age of Shinobi is over," came the teenage voice of one Boruto Uzumaki as he clashed with a mysterious figure.
Boruto could be seen kneeling down with his sword buried in the ground "I didn't think you'd go this far...Kawaki," he said as the figure known as Kawaki clenched his fist causing the marks alongside his arm to glow an ominous orange "I'll send you where I sent the seventh Boruto," the other boy replied.
"Was this the only possible outcome?" Boruto asked narrowing his only visible eye "yes that's right," Kawaki replied gripping the black staff in his hand tightly.
"The age of shinobi is over Boruto," Kawaki continued as Boruto reached down into his pouch pulling out a headband that had a slash through the leaf symbol on it "I'm....still a shinobi!" he exclaimed reverse gripping his sword.
With that the duo clashed once more.
I looked at this possible future with narrowed eyes "I see so that's how it is....this world is destined to fall...Boruto Uzumaki....Kawaki you two are the keys," I murmured opening my eyes to the current present where the Seventh Hokage and Sarutobi Konohamaru stood giving the academy inauguration speech.
In about ten seconds Uzumaki's son will crash the local train along with the Kaminarimon heir I thought glancing at the purple haired girl known as Sumire Kakei. Through the use of my Almighty I already knew everything that was about to happen the child of the Root would attempt to destroy the village through the use of the Gozu Tenin...I had no personal interest in the girl herself but the abilities of the creature held my interest.
Even now as I stood amongst the other students, I could feel the faint ripple of her suppressed chakra and when I dug deeper, I could sense the dark chakra of the Nue fueled by the girl's anger, sadness, despair, and just about every negative emotion one could think of.
My attention snapped back as the faint sound of metal screeching against metal reached my ears. The train...and here it begins, I thought watching the scene unfold with detached curiosity.
Boruto Uzumaki's bright blonde hair was the first thing to catch my attention as he and Denki Kaminarimon came hurtling off the train tracks and into the Hokage monument "hehehe mark Boruto Uzumaki as present!" he yelled.
"BORUTO!" came the shout of Konohamaru Sarutobi while Naruto could only stare in comical horror at what his son had done.
"That idiot," came a faint murmur from behind Sarada Uchiha that was a can of worms that I preferred avoiding. We were I guess friends once upon a time back when I was still a young 'boy' but at some point, she had disconnected but her future no doubt held greatness.
If what my Almighty showed me was true, I thought remembering familiar crimson eyes spinning into a pair of Mangekyo Sharingan through sheer love alone unlike the previous decedents of my grandnephew.
The academy inauguration soon continued with the Seventh having to go deal with the incident his son was a part of.
Nothing of interest happened for the rest of the day aside from the showing of each classroom, training arenas, storage room, cafeteria, and the main academy office.
When I returned home, I let out a soft "tadaima," even though I lived alone and was an orphan in this second life of mine. My heart suddenly felt numb as I remembered the old days with Mother, Hagoromo, and Hamura times back then were both ignorant and blissful I thought feeling a slight sting in my eyes.
Taking my boots off I went over to the kitchen and started cooking a bowl of rice with some fish and sauce for lunch. I wasn't a big spender on money I used it only for what I would need the rest was saved for rent. Anything else that I would need could easily be hunted in some of the local forest areas nearby.
My apartment was practically barren the living room had a single gray carpet, a brown table, brown comfortable couch, and lastly an old small tv that I fixed up from some random junkyard that I scoured from.
I had to suppress the bitter chuckle that threatened to come out...to think that the former lord of the Quincie's would end up like this a mere mortal with but a fraction of his true powers.
Curse you Hagoromo truly if you hadn't done what you did then the mess you caused with your sons would have never happened, Kaguya would have been properly dealt with, and her future clan members.
I quickly ate the food and spent the remainder of my day on the couch in deep hibernation my spirit needed it in order to regain the former amounts of energy I once wielded in my prime as Yhwach.
-A Week Later-
The one week at the academy has proven to be quite...boring yes I believe that is the word I am looking for. These former old bones of mine have been itching for a fight for quite some time I wished to test how much of my old strength has returned but combat matches will not happen until later in the year.
I sat in my spot near the window glancing down at the approaching students until my gaze caught sight of familiar blond seems like the boy's suspension was lifted "would you look at that...seems like they let him off early," a boy with pale blond hair, blue eyes, and a purple hoodie mixed in with an overall said.
Inojin Yamanaka heir of the Yamanaka Clan and son of Ino Yamanaka along with the former root operative known as Sai I thought glancing at the boy to show that he had my attention "it's a bit unfair how his punishment wasn't harsh enough don't you think?" he asked me.
I glanced back at outside for moment before humming a response "fairness is a subjective concept. If the Hokage himself shows leniency then perhaps it was more about the lesson learned than the punishment dealt."
Inojin seemed surprised at my response "huh I guess that's one way to look at it still you'd think he'd at least get more than a slap on the wrist for crashing a train."
"Indeed," I murmured before pulling out a book on the use of trapmaking it was an underhanded skill that I had no use for...but I figured it wouldn't hurt to learn after all every technique even weak ones have their uses after all.
Slowly the class began to fill up with more students until Boruto entered the class that was when everyone seemed to slowly grow more silent and start muttering about him.
I sometimes have to wonder why they waste their time on this useless notion of gossiping. There were better things to put that kind of focus into like training or helping around the village I thought remembering the times I had as a kid with my two elder brothers.
Boruto ignored the commotion though and continued his banter with Shikadai Nara and the boy Denki Kaminarimon. Suddenly Inojin rose up from the seat next to me heading down the steps towards Boruto no doubt to call him out I thought keeping my gaze focused on the book.
"Riding on the Hokage's coattails huh?...whoops did I just say that out loud" Inojin said but I could detect the clear sarcasm behind his words.
Sumire shook her hands 'nervously' a good act no doubt if I wasn't already aware of your true nature even someone like me would have easily been fooled by your mask.
"Hey Inojin take that back," Shikadai said making the pale boy laugh "haha sorry if it touched a nerve, I take it back but that's just how everyone else here feels though if anyone else caused a runaway train we would be tossed right into jail," Inojin explained.
"You know that's not how it went down," Shikadai replied Inojin merely closed his eyes nonchalantly replying with a sigh "I guess so...hey Boruto how long has it been?" he finally greeted with everyone in their group being all friendly now.
With that small commotion over everyone returned back to what they were doing or at least that's how it appeared to be when Inojin suddenly said "but I don't consider you worth my trust," which in turn caused Sumire to stand "ano...we'll be studying together so let's please try to get along!" she declared.
Suddenly Aburame-sensei came into the room startling Sumire who quickly shouts "stand!" making all of us stand to greet him.
"Greetings class...if you'd all please follow me we'll be having a slight physical test to see where your current level of strength is by doing a timed obstacle course," sensei informed.
-Outside Training Area-
"Zangetsu Tsukishirou you're up next," Aburame Sensei called out I closed my book placing it within the inner pockets of my coat.
I calmly walked up to the start of the obstacle keeping my hands to my sides "start!" Shino declared.
I used a low powered Hirenkyaku to instantly appear in front of the first wooden wall before leaping over it and then quickly dodging around the small wooden posts making it to the end of the small obstacle without breaking much of sweat.
I had to suppress a small shudder as I heard the whispers of some of the civilian girls talking about how 'hot' and 'handsome' I was.
It reminded me a lot of how the village girls of my previous home reacted whenever they saw me after helping Hamura and Hagoromo with the farm it seems like this curse of mine has followed me in this life as well.
"Impressive Zangetsu...now we are all complete with the obstacle next week we will begin actual practice so do be prepared," Aburame sensei after writing in my results.
I pulled my book out again taking a seat underneath one of the many trees as the other students went about their own groups.
"Huh what do you mean I am not at the top Denki who beat me?...Whose this Zangetsu guy?" came the faint loud voice of Boruto.
I continued flipping through my book even though I could feel the boy's gaze finding my own with Denki pointing me out to him "he looks kind of intimidating," he said nervously but Boruto grinned and sauntered over his confident energy radiating "Zangetsu, right?" he called out stopping a few steps away from me with his trademark smirk.
I didn't bother looking up from the book I was reading, calmly flipping a page as though I hadn't heard him.
"Not much for talking, huh?" Boruto pressed crossing his arms "well, you're fast I'll give you that guess I'll just have to try harder next time to catch up!" he excalimed.
Finally, I glanced up meeting his bright determined gaze with a steady neutral one of my own "if that's what drives you, Uzumaki," I said evenly "then keep trying," my words were neither harsh or provoking but served as actual encouragement to get stronger for someday I would wish to see that strength he would one day attain in the far future.
Boruto blinked then grinned wider "oh, it's like that, huh? Fine don't think I'll lose next time, though."
Before he could continue though Shikadai called out from nearby "Boruto quit bothering the guy not everyone wants to deal with your energy all the time."
Boruto huffed throwing a mock glare in Shikadai's direction "whatever," he muttered before turning back to me "anyway you're pretty cool Zangetsu...you wanna hang out with us?" he offered.
"...." There was a slight awkward pause for a moment until I closed my book "well I suppose I don't mind not like I have much else to do," I finally replied after all it was all a part of my plan.
Integrating myself into Boruto's group would allow me to observe him more closely his growth, his potential, and the role he might play in shaping the future. My Almighty had shown me glimpses of all the possibilities to come but how we came to which future was rather uncertain.
That and being alone for more than 1,000 plus years hasn't exactly been healthy so I could use the opportunity to polish my social skills.
Boruto's grin widened at my response "awesome! Let's go! Shikadai, Denki, we're all hanging out after class!" he called his enthusiasm lighting up the area.
I stood up following after him and was quickly introduced to the duo.
-end of chapter one-
I was thinking of making this a fic where the MC wasn't going to be friends with Boruto and his gang but...being alone is kind of boring and Boruto himself is where the main plot occurs and MC knows this because of his Almighty.
However, this does not mean I am going to let my MC just take over whatever Boruto does.
