Blue lock: the true egoist

Chapter 18: The savior of the B team

As soon as Nathan passed the ball to me, Ricardo rushed straight towards me, it was safe to say that he was the most annoying person I ever had to face.

Even back when he joined on our game against the B team he was always the one guarding me and whenever I was in front of him I had no choice but to pass the ball back, even against most defenders I didn't have that much problems but I couldn't do anything against him.

When I saw him get too close to me I did as usual and turned my back to him then got ready to pass the ball back to Nathan who has found a way to get in the best position for a one two which is our best bet if we want to go past Ricardo.

That tactic always worked and we knew that in normal conditions this would always work but this time Ricardo was more serious about winning and way more aggressive than before, he saw through all our plan and was about to take the ball, but that's when he suddenly noticed that I actually didn't pass the ball.

All this time I was waiting for this moment, the moment in which he'd let his emotions get the best of him, I could see that his body was a little off balance from trying to intercept my fake pass, as soon as I noticed that, I took this opportunity and went past him with a simple roulette.

I knew that this was a one time opportunity and that even if I predicted it, he would never do the same mistake again but that was enough to make me excited. For the first time I dribbled past the A team's captain and star player.

Right after I went past Ricardo, another midfielder rushed straight towards me to try to stall for time for their captain to fall back in defense and stop me, but before he could even reach me I already passed the ball back to Nathan and sprinted straight ahead without even looking back at Nathan.

The whole B team moved to the offense with even Pedro assisting us and advancing way more than he usually did, if any ball was lost I knew we could trust him to start the pressing.

With Nathan as the base of our offense we managed to turn their whole defense into pure chaos, we kept advancing while replying on our number advantage and Nathan's great field vision.

We completely outnumbered them and their offense which wasn't expecting that didn't have time to fall back to help the defense.

Not only did they lack a defender because of Arnold getting a red card but now we were 6 against 4 with only Ricardo managing to catch up to us with the last bit of stamina he had left.

"Even if you guys manage to win I'll make sure you don't get to shoot a single shot" Ricardo creeped up from behind me and started following me from up close.

Nathan who was about to pass me the ball realized that and ended up passing it to our right winger who managed to free himself from any defense.

He rushed straight towards the goal and even if his speed wasn't that great he still came face to face with the goal before anyone could catch up to him.

Unluckily right before he was about to shoot it a defender managed to nudge him with his shoulder and make him lose balance, he still ended up shooting the ball but it hit the crossbar and bounced back.

Everyone on the field had their eyes fixed on the ball which slowly bounced off towards where Nathan was positioned.

2 defenders immediately rushed to stop Nathan who was extremely close to the goal and could shoot it at any moment, but I knew very well that with Nathan's personality he would be too stressed to risk shooting the winning goal, he was the type to get very affected by the pressure.

Most people got surprised when they saw Nathan feigning a shot then centering the ball, but I knew that would happen, the ball was launched very high in the air and headed to the opposite direction where our left wing was, he was totally free from any defender since they all rushed to stop Nathan.

The only one left that could hope to stop him was Ricardo who immediately sprinted towards him in hope to stop him.

But what both of them didn't know is that Nathan wasn't aiming for him at all, they both jumped but the ball was a little too high for any of them to reach it and they missed it by a little. Ricardo was the one who actually got the closest to touching it but he still ended up missing it.

The ball went past both of them and they both thought the ball was going to get out of bound, but that's when under everyone's shocked eyes I jumped and headed the ball straight in the goal.

Nobody saw that coming other than me and Nathan, after spending so much time together and always relying on each other in the offense I knew he would be the only one to understand me and see me. He trusted me as much as I trusted him.

Suddenly the whistle sound echoed through the field, indicating both my goal and the end of the game. 5-4 We finally won.

"If you want to stop me from scoring next time make sure to never stop looking at me." I mocked Ricardo as I went past him.

Surprisingly he didn't take it badly and just congratulated me with what seems to be a genuine smile. I truly couldn't understand that guy.

"I knew I could count on you for the final goal!" Nathan came running at me excitedly.

"It's all thanks to you hahaha" I high fived him as we both went back to rest next to Alex and Pedro.

Recently I got the habit of using [Eyes of the Lord] a lot, at the beginning and end of every game and training. I loved doing so just to see how everyone improved and what was the level of every player around me.

That's the most useful weapon I currently have, thanks to that I was able to tell everyone's strength and weakness and make use of them during our games. All my stats weren't bad at all but it's that weapon which allowed me to be as exceptional as I currently am, if not for it I would probably just be a good striker at best.

The fact that our left wing won't try to dribble and instead rely on his speed is also a guess I made thanks to the information I got from my [Eyes of the lord]. It helps me both with how to deal with opponents as well as teammates.

Usually the informations I get don't change much from one day to another but after using it right now something totally shocked me and almost made me burst out laughing.

Nathan, the one who held on until the end of the game, and the one who had a goal and an assist. he's already an exceptional player in my opinion, but unlike Pedro and Alex who both had 2 special weapons he only had one.

But that's only true for before this game. I can't tell when or how but he definitely gained a new special weapon. A D ranked special weapon. But this one didn't have anything to do with passing or any type of normal playmaking ability I expected him to have.

Nathan gained a D rank weapon which allows him to approximately guess the place around where the ball would bounce back after hitting the crossbar.

That would explain why he was always in the right place when it came to cross bars. That weapon suited him a lot. it wasn't too strong but it was expected from a D rank weapon, thinking about it made me curious about what my own first D rank weapon would be.

"How's the king of crossbars going?" Alex joked around with Nathan, that's the nickname Alex used whenever Nathan got the ball after it bounces off the bar, aftef all this was nowhere near the first time he end up getting the ball after it bounces back.

We almost all got used to it that's why when I saw the ball hit the crossbar I immediately started running to the opposite direction.

We then all joked around and made fun of Nathan but after 10 minutes of resting and catching our breath coach Evans called all of us and asked us to gather in front of him.
