Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Veil of Deception
The AeroGallacianSpace headquarters was eerily quiet as Cynthia, Prometheus, and Marcus sat in the dimly lit control room, their eyes fixed on the data streaming across the screens. The revelation that the mole was still out there had shattered any illusions of security they had left. Every keystroke, every flicker of movement in the office now felt like a potential threat.
Lena entered the room, carrying a tablet with new findings. "I ran a secondary scan on the transmissions Marcus found," she said, placing it on the table. "And I think I've pinpointed where they're being relayed from."
Prometheus leaned forward. "Where?"
Lena hesitated before answering. "It's coming from within the R&D sector. More specifically... the secondary data center."
Cynthia's breath caught. That data center was supposed to be locked down, accessible only to a handful of high-clearance personnel. If the mole was transmitting from there, it meant they had higher-level access than they had suspected.
"We need to check it now," Marcus said, already rising from his seat.
Cynthia nodded. "No alarms. We go in quietly."
The group moved through the corridors, their footsteps muffled against the sleek flooring. Every shadow seemed to stretch unnaturally, every flickering light hummed with an ominous undertone. As they approached the data center doors, Lena input a security override. The lock clicked open, and the heavy metal door slid aside with a quiet hiss.
Inside, the room was lined with server towers, their soft blue and green lights blinking rhythmically. In the center, a single terminal was active. Someone had been here.
Prometheus moved quickly, scanning the logs. "Whoever it was, they wiped most of their tracks... but not all of them." He pulled up a partially deleted access log. A name appeared on the screen.
Lena inhaled sharply. Marcus tensed. Cynthia's eyes darkened.
The name belonged to someone they never expected.
One of their own.
