Chapter 2: Chapter 2: A New World, A New System... And Three Pokémon!
The bluish light from the Pokémon System screen blinded him for a moment, making him blink. Kenji brought a hand to his forehead, feeling a mixture of confusion and excitement bubbling inside him. "A Pokémon System? Seriously?" he thought, incredulous. It was like a wet dream from his YouTuber days had materialized into reality.
The screen floated in front of him, projecting an aura of strange technology in the dimness of his room. As he tried to focus, the icons and symbols became sharper, revealing an intuitive and familiar design. It was... perfect. It was as if someone had taken the interface of the Pokémon games he loved so much and perfectly adapted it to this new world.
A shiver ran down his spine. How was this possible? Who or what had created this system? And why him? Questions swirled in his mind like a whirlwind, but one thing was certain: he wasn't going to waste this opportunity.
With trembling hands, he reached out a finger to the screen, tapping one of the icons. Instantly, a new window opened, revealing a detailed menu with various options.
Pokédex: Explore the Pokémon World
The name was familiar. In the games, the Pokédex was a virtual encyclopedia that recorded information about every Pokémon he encountered. He wondered if it would work the same here.
Shop: Trainer's Paradise
The mere mention of "Shop" made his eyes light up. He remembered the hours he spent in the games, saving every penny to buy useful items. What kind of items would be available here?
Missions: Challenges and Rewards
The idea of completing missions to earn rewards excited him even more. Would they be simple missions, like collecting berries, or epic challenges, like defeating a Gym Leader?
Inventory: Your Virtual Backpack
A space to store all the items he bought or found. Awesome! It was time to organize his backpack, like in the good old days.
Without thinking twice, he tapped the Pokédex icon. The screen transformed, displaying an endless list of Pokémon names. "Awesome!" he exclaimed softly. "If this is real, it means I can find all the Pokémon from my favorite games here."
However, as he scrolled through the list, he noticed something peculiar. Next to each Pokémon's name and picture, there was a thumbnail image of a beast. Some were fierce, others more docile, but all seemed to emanate an aura of power.
"What's this?" he wondered, frowning. "Why does every Pokémon have a beast next to it?"
He tried to tap the beast images, hoping to get more information, but nothing happened. The Pokémon System didn't seem willing to reveal that secret just yet.
"I guess I'll have to figure it out myself," Kenji murmured. "Maybe as I progress on my adventure, the System will give me more information."
Despite the strangeness of the beasts, Kenji couldn't help but feel excited. The idea that Pokémon were somehow connected to the beasts of this world was intriguing.
As he scrolled through the list, he noticed something odd. Some names were highlighted in color, while others appeared in gray. "What does this mean?" he wondered.
A small text window popped up, explaining the meaning of the colors:
Highlighted Names: Pokémon discovered and registered in the Pokédex.
Gray Names: Unknown and unregistered Pokémon.
"Ah, I see," Kenji murmured. "I guess I'll have to find them and register them myself."
The idea of becoming a Pokémon researcher in a real world filled him with excitement. It would be like reliving his childhood, but on steroids.
Next, he tapped the Shop icon. A new window opened, displaying a wide variety of items. His eyes widened in surprise at the list:
Poké Balls: Different types of Poké Balls to capture Pokémon.
Potions: Different types of potions to heal your Pokémon.
Antidotes: To cure poisoning.
Paralyze Heals: To cure paralysis.
Revives: To revive a fainted Pokémon.
X Attack: To increase a Pokémon's attack during battle.
X Defense: To increase a Pokémon's defense during battle.
Evolution Stones: To evolve certain Pokémon.
"Holy crap!" Kenji exclaimed. "They have everything here."
The price of the items was indicated in "System Points." He wondered how he could earn those points.
The answer came quickly. He tapped the Missions icon, and a new window opened, showing a list of tasks:
Daily Mission: Defeat 5 Low-Level Monsters
Reward: 100 System Points
Daily Mission: Explore a New Area of the World
Reward: 200 System Points
Weekly Mission: Defeat a Boss Monster
Reward: 1000 System Points
Main Mission: Complete 50% of the Pokédex
Reward: 5000 System Points
"This is awesome!" Kenji exclaimed. "I can earn points by completing missions. It's like a game, but with real rewards."
Finally, he tapped the Inventory icon. The screen transformed, displaying an empty space with the legend: "Inventory Empty."
"I guess I'll have to start filling it up," Kenji murmured.
At that moment, a new window appeared on the screen, announcing:
Congratulations! You have received a Starter Pack as a welcome gift.
Kenji felt his heart skip a beat. "A Starter Pack? Seriously?" he thought, excited. What kind of items would it contain?
He tapped the button to open the Starter Pack, and a new window opened, revealing its contents:
5 Standard Poké Balls
3 Small Potions
1 Starter Pokémon Voucher
"Incredible!" Kenji exclaimed. "Poké Balls, potions... and a voucher to choose a Starter Pokémon!"
A new window appeared, showing three Pokémon images: Pikachu, Charmander, and Bulbasaur.
"No way!" Kenji exclaimed. "The three Starter Pokémon from the first generation!"
He stared at the images, frowning. Pikachu was the most iconic Pokémon of all, an adorable and versatile electric mouse. Charmander was a fire lizard with great attack and evolution potential. Bulbasaur was a plant with a great sense of companionship.
The decision was difficult. Each of the Pokémon had its own advantages and disadvantages.
"Think carefully, Kenji," he said to himself. "This is an important decision. The Pokémon you choose will be your partner on this adventure."
Pikachu was the safe option, the popular option. But Kenji had always been a bit of a rebel, a little different. He didn't like following trends.
Charmander, on the other hand, was a challenge. A Fire-type Pokémon in a world full of water and earth. But it was also a Pokémon with great growth potential, with the possibility of evolving into a powerful Charizard.
Bulbasaur was the balanced option, the smart option. A Grass/Poison-type Pokémon with great resistance and support abilities. But Kenji had always preferred attack to defense.
He stared at the images for several minutes, indecisive. Every time he thought he had made a decision, he changed his mind instantly.
"Damn it!" Kenji exclaimed. "This is harder than I thought."
Finally, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He had to trust his gut, his intuition.
"Okay, Kenji," he said to himself. "Think about what you need. Think about what you want."
He opened his eyes and looked at the images once more. This time, his gaze settled on Charmander.
"Yes," Kenji murmured. "Charmander is the right choice."
He imagined himself, traveling through this new world with a Charizard by his side. It would be epic, it would be legendary.
Without thinking twice, he reached out a finger to the screen and tapped the image of Charmander.
The screen lit up, displaying a confirmation message:
Congratulations! You have chosen Charmander as your Starter Pokémon.
A shiver ran down his spine. The decision was made. His adventure was about to begin.
Kenji leaned back in his chair, grinning from ear to ear. The future was uncertain, but one thing was certain: he wouldn't give up.
With the Pokémon System by his side, he was ready to face any challenge that came his way. He was ready to become the best Pokémon Trainer in this new world.
