Chapter 108: The Ye Family's Ancestor

Morning sunlight streamed through the patterned windows, casting dappled spots on the floor like blooming flowers, warm and bright.

Inside the room, Mo Yu, who was seated on the bed, slowly opened his eyes. A faint flash of lightning flickered in his dark pupils before quickly fading away.

Stretching slightly, Mo Yu took a deep breath of the cool morning air, feeling a wave of comfort spread from his chest throughout his entire body.

Three days had passed since his brief confrontation with Ye Cong.

Before leaving, Ye Cong had instructed the inn to move Mo Yu to a better room. During those three days, Mo Yu had also absorbed and refined the third-grade magic core that Little Doctor Immortal had gifted him, further advancing his strength to the peak of the three-star Dou Shi level.

Mo Yu wasn't particularly concerned about his increased strength. He was patiently waiting for the Ye family's response. He believed they wouldn't reject his request because, at this point, they had no other choice.

As Mo Yu pondered this, a knock on the door suddenly interrupted his thoughts. When he opened it, a somewhat familiar face greeted him.

"I am Ye Zhen of the Ye family. The patriarch has sent me to invite you to the Ye family for a discussion," said the man, who was in his thirties, bowing respectfully to Mo Yu.

Recognizing the visitor, Mo Yu smiled slightly. He quickly recalled that this was the same Da Dou Shi who had led the guards during his earlier conflict with Ye Cong.

Satisfied with the confirmation, Mo Yu nodded and said, "Very well, take me there."

Upon hearing this, Ye Zhen respectfully led the way. Despite Mo Yu's youth, the man's respectful attitude stemmed from the strength Mo Yu had displayed and the importance his patriarch and ancestor had placed on him.

They wove through several crowded streets, with Ye Zhen guiding Mo Yu through nearly half of Black Rock City before finally arriving at the Ye family's residence in the city center.

Standing at the end of the street, Mo Yu looked at the Ye family's headquarters—a heavily fortified structure resembling a small fortress—and nodded in mild admiration.

The Ye family was indeed one of the four great families of the northeastern province of the Jia Ma Empire. The massive fortress alone must have cost an enormous amount to construct.

On the towering walls, guards were posted every few dozen meters, and in the gaps between them, Mo Yu could vaguely see the glint of sharp arrowheads reflecting the sunlight.

As Mo Yu's spiritual senses swept over the fortress, he noticed that its airspace was covered by several layers of surveillance, with no blind spots. Anyone attempting to enter from above would likely be shot down by the countless hidden arrows.

"The Ye family's defenses are quite formidable," Mo Yu remarked calmly as he surveyed the fortress. "It wouldn't be easy to infiltrate unnoticed."

Ye Zhen, walking beside him, couldn't help but be surprised by the remark. The Ye family took great pride in the strength of their fortress's defenses, but to Mo Yu, it seemed only "formidable."

Of course, given the countless top-tier formations and defensive arrays Mo Yu had seen, this compliment was already generous.

Inside the Ye family's main hall, two figures were seated.

"Ye Cong, have you confirmed the accuracy of this information?" asked an elderly man with white hair, dressed in a simple gray robe, his voice low.

The old man was incredibly aged, with eyes that seemed to have seen countless years pass by. However, his body exuded a faint aura of death, suggesting severe injuries.

"Ancestor, I've confirmed that Mo Yu is indeed the son of Mo Jingyun. His father committed a grave error years ago, which led to…" Ye Cong continued to report respectfully.

"I see…" the old man murmured, his cloudy eyes lighting up briefly. "So, he wants to use our Ye family to avenge his father. But apart from being able to repair the Six-Harmonies Void Sword, what other leverage does this Mo Yu have? Otherwise, I'll have no choice but to test whether he's truly as powerful as you say, even if it costs me this decrepit body!"

The old man's sudden burst of emotion triggered his injuries, causing him to cough violently. His face flushed red as he struggled to breathe.

"Ancestor!" Ye Cong rushed to his side, concerned. The old man was the Ye family's pillar of strength; if anything happened to him, countless predators would descend upon the family.

After a while, the old man's breathing steadied, and Ye Cong sighed in relief. However, he hesitated before speaking again, "Ancestor, I believe it would be unwise to oppose Mo Yu. His displayed abilities and the mysterious master behind him are likely beyond our family's grasp.

Moreover, before he left, the young man mentioned that the Yun Lan Sect would sever its ties with the Mo family. I was skeptical at first, but our spies have just returned with the news that the Yun Lan Sect indeed made the announcement yesterday. It seems the sect leader herself made the decision despite opposition.

I've heard that Mo Lan was furious when he found out and went to the Yun Lan Sect to demand an explanation, only to be turned away at the door."

"Oh?" The old man was taken aback, surprise flashing across his aged features. "It seems I underestimated this boy. It's true what they say, 'Heroes emerge from the youth.'

Whether or not the Yun Lan Sect's decision is related to Mo Yu, the fact remains that he holds considerable power behind him. The empire's future will belong to young men like him.

When we meet, try to negotiate in good faith. If it doesn't work out, we should still treat him well. It's better to establish a good relationship—who knows when we might need his connections in the future."

Ye Cong nodded in agreement. As the head of a powerful family, he understood the value of building connections.

He recalled the Jia family in the western province, which had become the region's most powerful family thanks to their relationship with Dan Wang Gu He. Decades ago, they had rescued a young Gu He from a magical beast. Now, with Gu He's support, the Jia family had risen from obscurity to prominence.

In Ye Cong's eyes, Mo Yu's potential was no less than that of Gu He—perhaps even greater. The spiritual power Mo Yu had displayed was so formidable that even Ye Cong wasn't confident he could defeat him.

As the two spoke, a member of the Ye family entered the hall and announced respectfully, "Ancestor, Patriarch, the guest Mo Yu has arrived."

The old man replied softly, "Bring him in."
