Chapter 79
Did Gergys always have such a sharp tongue?
As I listened to his smooth and cutting words, I almost wanted to shout, *”Wow, that’s refreshing!”* and wipe my mouth in mock admiration.
Of course, Alexandra’s reaction was quite the opposite.
“And what’s so wrong with trampling the weak? You’re talking nonsense. Did your mother teach you to act all high and mighty? Grandpa would be so proud of you, wouldn’t he? Pathetic.”
“Weak people are still people, Alexandra.”
“That’s ridiculous. If they were weak, they should have been born stronger! What’s wrong with me being better than them? Who do you think you are, acting superior and lecturing me?”
Alexandra glared at Gergys with a fiery gaze, looking like she wanted to strangle him on the spot.
*What is this? The little snowball I threw has turned into a full-blown ideological clash between two royal heirs…*
Alexandra and Gergys stood at opposite ends of the spectrum. Their views were so different, there was no room for compromise.
Idsys, on the other hand, stood right in the middle.
*Playing as Gergys in the game was always a challenge. If you got caught dealing in poison, he’d be so disappointed he’d cut ties with you.*
While the other heirs didn’t care, Gergys was different. It forced you to find another way, which made his “righteous” personality both admirable and troublesome.
And now that I’m his sister, I can’t help but think… Gergys is actually pretty cool.
“You’re only able to preach to me because your twin does all the dirty work behind the scenes, aren’t you? Before you criticize me for something trivial, why don’t you get a handle on your twin first?”
“Idsys doesn’t go around hitting servants. And don’t drag him into this to distract from the real issue.”
Wow, my Gergys is so clever. He even knows how to use the word *’distract the issue!’*
I almost clapped my hands in admiration.
“The people you bullied—they can’t do anything to you, even if they’re hurt.”
“So what?”
“So, I’ll return the favor for them.”
Gergys shrugged his shoulders.
“That should help ease their resentment. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. People like you only understand when the same thing happens to them.”
“Did I ever bully you? What you’re doing now isn’t any different from bullying me!”
“Were you ever justified in bullying others? I’m not doing this because it’s justified—it’s about fairness. If you hit someone, you should expect to be hit back.”
“Why do you get to do this to me? If someone has a problem with me, they should come and say it to my face!”
Gergys ruffled his hair in frustration. I could see the veins bulging on his forehead.
Already exhausted, the ongoing argument was clearly pushing his limits.
“Hey, according to your logic, the weak get trampled on, right? Well, you’re weaker than me. That’s why I’m using your logic against you.”
“I’m weaker than you? Don’t make me laugh. We’ve never even fought properly! You always disappear off to the academy or whatever. We’ve never had a real fight!”
Alexandra’s sharp retort was laced with confidence—she truly believed she could win in a fight right now.
*Well, maybe she could.*
Gergys had just returned from battle, while Alexandra had been resting in the tents.
*But what if they really start fighting?*
I started to get worried. Emotions were running high, and Gergys’s patience seemed to have completely worn thin. Any moment now, they might both unleash their Dragon Heart powers and—
“Then fight me, if you’re so upset.”
“……”
“What’s wrong? Scared?”
Oh no.
Snap.
I could almost hear the sound of Alexandra’s restraint breaking.
Gergys shoved me aside and launched himself into the air.
Boom!
The first clash happened faster than I could follow with my eyes.
At this point, there was only one thing I could do.
“Dad!!! Gergys is fighting!!!”
* * *
In the end, Alexandra completely lost her temper and threw herself at Gergys.
The two clashed, knocking down nearby tents in their wake, but the fight didn’t last long.
Before they could completely demolish the area, Dad appeared—likely drawn by my shout—and stepped in.
He picked me up, his expression stern, and issued a command.
[You two will face military punishment. From tomorrow, you will serve dawn duties for a week. For now, return to your quarters and reflect.]
Gergys had taken several punches to the face, and in return, he’d slammed Alexandra into a filthy puddle.
Both of them were a mess. Alexandra’s once-pristine hairstyle and luxurious fur coat were now in shambles.
*Honestly, it was quite satisfying to see.*
I grinned at the memory as I carefully applied a cold cloth to Gergys’s bruised face.
“Ouch, ouch.”
“Does it hurt a lot?”
“Yeah, it does.”
Gergys was lying on a makeshift cot in one of the tents. I sat beside him, gently pressing a cloth filled with snow to his injured nose.
If I could reduce the swelling tonight, maybe he wouldn’t look too ridiculous tomorrow.
“I went easy on her. You know that, right?”
“Yeah, I know.”
In perfect condition, Gergys wouldn’t have taken those hits. But after a long battle, his exhaustion had clearly caught up with him.
I clicked my tongue, moving the cloth to his swollen cheek.
“Ugh, I need some sleep.”
“Aren’t you going back to the airship? You’re sleeping here?”
“Yeah. The knights are roughing it out here—I’m not going to sleep comfortably while they suffer. You stay here until Idsys comes, then go back with him.”
“When is Brother Id coming?”
“In about… twenty minutes, maybe.”
As he continued speaking, Gergys’s words grew softer, the fatigue in his voice becoming more pronounced.
[Current Status: Tired (80%)]
I took a peek at his status screen and decided to stay completely still, not making a sound so he could sleep.
A few minutes later, Gergys’s breathing evened out.
Quietly, I tiptoed out of the tent and spotted someone hovering nearby.
“Princess, are you alright?”
Sir Rabjamun noticed me poking my head out and responded immediately.
“I’m fine. Could you bring that boy over here?”
“Of course.”
Not long after, Pabel was sitting across from me inside the tent.
“It must hurt. Hold this against your cheek—it’ll help with the swelling. I’ll apply some ointment in about ten minutes.”
“Princess, you’re always helping me.”
“You always seem to need help.”
Pabel’s voice was as soft and pretty as ever, but there was a hint of exhaustion in it. He looked so fragile, like he needed protecting. His eyes were downcast, and he resembled a lost arctic fox.
I stayed silent for a moment, observing him.
“…”
As the heat from his cheek melted the snow, the purple cloth darkened with moisture. Watching it, I reached for the ointment and scooped out a generous amount.
“Hey, I made this ointment myself.”
“Wow.”
“You can keep it.”
“Really?”
Pabel’s eyes lit up. He seemed genuinely pleased.
I wondered how much he must have suffered, enduring beatings like this. Just lying there, trembling, like he’d been through this countless times before.
“Do you always treat strangers this kindly?”
The question came out of nowhere, as I applied the ointment to his cheek.
“Didn’t your mother ever teach you not to be too nice to strangers, in case they bite?”
“I… don’t have a mother.”
“……”
“Just kidding. Don’t get so serious, I was only joking!”
The words slipped out unconsciously. Realizing what I’d said, I hurried to cover it up.
“Uh, do you have a mom, Pabel?”
“No. Unfortunately.”
“Pabel too?”
Oh… The more I hear, the more I’m convinced he’s an illegitimate noble child.
“Don’t go around getting hit anymore.”
I took Pabel’s hand in mine, furrowing my brows in concern.
“If someone hits you again—well, it’s probably inevitable—but come to me in secret. I’ll heal you.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
“You’re really kind, Princess. But you don’t have any reason to care about me…”
“Does someone need a reason to help others?”
That kind of thinking just seems so cold and heartless.
Pabel seemed like he wanted to respond, his lips parting slightly, but then he closed them again.
I was about to ask what he wanted to say when a knight outside called out loudly.
“Princess, Prince Idsys has arrived!”
“Oh, okay!”
Looks like it’s time to head back to the airship!
As I rushed to the entrance of the tent, Idsys stepped inside. I spread my arms wide and ran towards him.
“Brother Id!”
“Cherry, who were you talking to?”
“Huh? Oh, wait… where did he go?”
I turned to greet Idsys, but something strange caught my eye.
The chair where Pabel had been sitting was now empty.
Huh? Where did he go?
“Sir Rabjamun, did you see where Pabel went?”
“Pardon?”
“You know, the silver-haired boy with the purple eyes.”
“I’m afraid I didn’t see anyone like that, Princess.”
“You didn’t see him?”
What kind of daylight ghost nonsense is this?
This doesn’t make
any sense.
Sir Rabjamun had been standing nearby the whole time I was treating Pabel!
“Cherry, can you describe him?”
Idsys frowned as he listened carefully to my story.
“Um, well, he had silver hair and purple eyes with a hint of red in the iris. He’s Alexandra’s attendant.”
“And he was here just a moment ago?”
“Yeah! I even put ointment on him, see?”
“……”
But there was nothing left—not even the ointment I had pointed to.
Feeling embarrassed and confused, I let out an awkward laugh.
Is Pabel a magician or something?
