Chapter 78
“Huh? No way!”
I shook my head firmly. They’re finally getting some rest—why would I ask for something that would get me scolded?
“Just meet with the leaders of each division and ask them to distribute it.”
“And how will they know how to use it?”
“There’s instructions written on the back. I’ll go around with Sir Rabjamun and hand them out.”
“Hmm, I’ll go with you.”
“Oh… but Brother Ki, you’re tired. If I can’t go around without one of my brothers, I’ll ask Brother Id to come with me.”
“Idsys is busy. He’s analyzing the current situation and the occurrences of Amons over the past week to predict the next few days.”
It sounds like a weather forecast, but I better not ask how that’s possible. It’s genius territory—getting too curious might get me in trouble!
“Then… since Brother Ki must be tired, I’ll just hand these out quickly.”
“I’m not tired, not at all. I only caught 500 today.”
Liar.
I glanced up at Gergys’s status floating above his head.
[Current Status: Tired (30%)]
Not completely exhausted, but definitely not fully energetic either. Feeling both grateful and a little guilty, I squeezed Gergys’s hand.
“So, where are the bandages?”
“On the airship…”
“I’ll go get them. You stay here. Sir Rabjamun, come fetch the Princess. You’re to escort her.”
I stood in the middle of the path between tents that were tightly set up. Gergys had grabbed Vincent, a knight who had just participated in his first Amon hunt today.
“Were you scared?”
“I was terrified! But Prince Gergys was here and there, slashing away!”
Vincent’s eyes sparkled as he recounted the battle, and I listened intently.
“I was clumsy and tripped again because there were so many dead Amons scattered everywhere. Oh, they use magic to make the corpses disappear, but during the fight, that’s impossible.”
“You tripped, but didn’t get hurt?”
“This time I was fine. Right before I hit the ground, His Highness the Prince swooped in and grabbed me by the collar!”
Vincent was clearly one of those who idolized Dad and my twin brothers, like many knights in the White Night Palace.
Soon, I saw Sir Rabjamun rushing over, his face filled with relief the moment he spotted me.
“Sir Rabjamun?”
“I was worried. Prince Gergys might’ve thought Wynn’s camp was safe enough… but still.”
I had a feeling I knew what Sir Rabjamun was implying.
“So, if something happened, everyone would be afraid Brother Id would…”
He cleared his throat.
Yeah, I get it. Gergys is easier to deal with, but Idsys? Terrifying. I guess everyone feels the same way.
“By the way, where’s the next camp?”
“The Jen camp.”
“And the Qin camp?”
“Wynn is in the middle, and Qin is at the rear. Princess Helga led the knights here first, so there aren’t many knights from the Qin camp now.”
“Got it.”
The camps were marked by the flags on top of each tent, but it was hard to see them now.
Suddenly, the sharp sound of a slap echoed through the air.
I blinked, watching Gergys leap down from the air before I bolted in the direction of the sound.
“Hey! Where do you think you’re going, chick?”
Gergys yelled from above, but I knew he’d follow soon enough.
‘That definitely sounded like someone getting slapped.’
My curiosity piqued, I sprinted ahead, the knights walking briskly beside me. Of course, I was the only one running with all my might!
Then I heard a familiar voice calming someone named Alexandra. As I stepped into the Jen camp, I caught sight of golden curls—there was no mistaking it, it was Alexandra.
Before I could process it, I saw Alexandra raise her hand and slap Pabel across the face again.
‘What the… what did I just see?’
Everything seemed to slow down. Pabel’s head snapped to the side. I knew Alexandra could be harsh, but to slap someone so casually?
And why was Pabel just…
‘Oh.’
It clicked—the poise, the attire. Pabel was a servant. Alexandra’s attendant, apparently.
But regardless of status, no one should be treated like that.
I knew I shouldn’t interfere, knew I had no right.
“Did you… just hit him?”
Even so, the words slipped from my mouth.
“Ha, it’s you again? Why are you here?”
Alexandra crossed her arms, raising her chin with an air of arrogance.
“He’s my servant. Why should you care if I discipline him? What right do you have?”
Her words stung not because they were outrageous, but because she wasn’t entirely wrong.
I looked at Pabel, trembling on the ground. He must be in so much pain…
The sound echoed twice. With Alexandra’s strength, Pabel’s cheek was sure to swell. Would his teeth be okay?
“Pabel belongs to me now—Dad gave him to me, so stay out of this.”
I wanted to say hitting others was barbaric and unbecoming. I wanted to yank Alexandra’s hair and tell her to stop.
But unless I could take Pabel away from her completely, anything I did would just be empty words.
Pabel could suffer more if I provoked her.
‘I can’t make her angrier.’
If I said something wrong now, Alexandra might beat Pabel more, and no one could stop her. She hadn’t even used Dragon Heart power, so nothing could intervene.
For now, I had to retreat, even if it hurt.
“…Fine.”
I bit my lip and turned around, feeling Alexandra’s victorious gaze on my back.
Gergys, standing behind me, tilted my face from side to side.
“Are you alright? You look like you got hit.”
“I’m fine.”
Was my face really that serious?
I rubbed my cheek and smiled.
It wasn’t anything big—just thinking about something.
‘Ah, the applied magic Idsys showed me… how did that work again?’
I traced a magic circle in the shallow snow with the tip of my boot.
If you draw the same circle over and over every day, you can do it with your eyes closed.
“Come forth, snowman!”
“What the—?!”
“Alexandra, let’s have a snowball fight!”
The magic circle glowed, and a giant snowman appeared. It looked exactly like I imagined—with a wide, grinning mouth, pelting snow everywhere!
“Ah! What is this?!”
Alexandra was instantly buried in snow. I peeked out from behind Gergys and stuck out my tongue at her.
“I just wanted to play. Why are you mad? Come on, make a snowman too!”
“…Chick. It’s hard to take you seriously when you say that from behind me. Am I your shield?”
“Yep! Gergys, my personal shield!”
“You’re so bold.”
Alexandra’s beautifully styled hair was now soaked and dripping with water. As she glanced at her ruined appearance, her face twisted with rage.
“Did you use magic to do this to me? Do you think I’ll let this slide?”
The sky rumbled ominously, dark clouds gathering overhead, flashing with threatening lightning.
‘Wow, that would be fatal if it hit me.’
Not that it will, but I calmly kept an eye on Pabel, planning to check on him later and give him some healing ointment. Maybe a bandage too—if he wears it, Alexandra won’t be able to hit him again without making it obvious.
“Hey, Alexandra. Let’s leave it at that, alright?”
I had caused the trouble, but Gergys was the one cleaning up after me. As usual, my strategy was a success.
Gergys sighed deeply but stepped forward.
“You saw what your little sister just did to me!”
“She was just playing. Why are you so upset?”
“Playing? Did you just say playing? Look at my fur coat—it’s ruined!”
“Yeah, it was just a prank.”
Suddenly, Gergys’s expression turned blank. His voice dropped, cold enough to make even me flinch.
“When Cherishe was at the Swan Palace, you said the same thing—just a prank, right?”
“……!”
“Why is it a prank when you do it, but not when Cherishe does it? What a joke.”
This was what I admired about Gergys. Idsys worked behind the scenes, but Gergys? He did everything out in the open.
No matter what it was.
“What does that have to do with anything? She needs to apologize! Or I’ll roast her alive!”
“Hah.”
“Kneel and apologize right now! She just did this to me!”
“Fine, I’ll apologize for her. Sorry. Want money instead?”
“……!!!”
Gergys’s bluntness was both astounding and terrifying.
No wonder Alexandra was furious—Gergys wasn’t holding back at all.
‘Still, that’s impressive.’
Offering money for a damaged fur coat… to Alexandra, of all people. That was a huge insult.
