Chapter 45: Chapter 45
[Solon POV]
The journey was calm. For 3 hours no spirit attacked which gave me a chance to fake my partial recovery.
Playing human is hard when you are unable to lie. My concept'd weakness has become more of a nuisance lately. I wonder if my siblings have similar weaknesses. I should ask them during aftre the council.
"Look! The border!" Someone shouted as everyone's eyes light up with hope.
'A lot of them survived the leviathan. Seems like I helped too much.' I thought as I made notes to limit my interactions with my guinea pigs in the future.
[Third POV]
The team closed in to the border and came face-to-face with a large wall. Easily 20 meters high (65.6 feet) that was surrounded by a deep chasm filled with spikes in the bottom as well as in the walls.
Multiple banners and torches decorated the huge structure giving it a serious look that would demoralize any human from attacking.
'The only problem is that they are not fighting humans.' Solon added silently.
At the top of the wall multiple guards could be seen standing upright.
"Halt! Who are you?" an old man asked from the top of the wall as hundreds of rocks started floating threateningly above us while the soldiers that held them had taken their stances, ready to attack in a moments notice.
The general didn't bother to answer as he took a scroll from his armor and send it at the old man with his bending.
The man took the scroll and started reading throught it.
After a while he smiled and motion to a soldier next to him, who raised a flag.
Seconds later the wall split open as several soldiers exited and created a bridge over the chasm.
"Welcome back general." A sooldier said as he started passing some food to the team.
"What's the situation?" The general asked while ignoring the food he was given.
"The monarch has send a marshal to take care of everything as well as 10 generals, 20 lieutenant generals and multiple major generals and colonels that are leading an army of 500 thousands." the soldier answered while turning serious.
"After the previous failure at the border where the army was unable the earth monarch decided that we were too careless that's why we were send here to reinforce and protect what we have left." A third voice butted in as the old man from the top of the wall fell from the sky crashing to the ground.
"HAHA! Gomah, you are still alive!" The man said as he bear hugged the general.
"Hama? Is that you?" The genaral asked with surprise in his face.
"Of course it's me. Do you really think I could avoid this war when you are here?" The old man said after letting Gomah go.
After that he turned towards Solon and asked directly.
"and who is this? I don't remember him from the files I got about your team." He asked calmly without showing any kind of hostility, even thought his body was tense.
'His instincts are sharp.' Solon thought as he looked at the man.
"This is Solon. We found him a day after we send the second team back to the border. He has helped us immensely during our journey."
"Very well then, I trust your judjment. Now come with me to meet the marshal." He said as he pulled Gomah with him towards some tents.
The soldiers looked dumbfounded at the interaction between the two generals, before waking up due to a soldier motioning them to foolow him.
"As for you Mister Solon. Follow me, I will guide you to the town. It's about half an hour away so do keep up." said the soldier who clearly had a higher standing from the one around him.
Solon nodded as he turned to look once more to the wilderness, through the now closing wall, before following the soldier.
~~~~~~~~~~
"What did you say? A horde?" a young man asked while looking at Gomah with terror in his face.
"Yes, while returning we found a horde that is heading this way. We have about 2-3 hours before they reach the edge of the forest and we are able to see them. Although we will see the smoke they are creating while running." He answered quickly, trying to save time while giving all the informationg he had.
"I see." The man said while writing some things down quickly and giving the scroll to a soldier that was standing next to him.
"Deliver this to the barracks as fast as possible. The rest of the general will take it from there." He ordered calmly.
"Yes, sir." said the soldier as he sprinted out of the tent.
"Now. What can you tell me about this 'Solon'? I was unable to find anything about him in the kingdom's archive." The marshal said as he looked seriously at the two general in front of him.
Gomah immeidiately turned serious since he was aware that Solon could prove to be a formidable force for thr war effords. Yet he also knew that he didn't have the will to fight. He just wanted to open a tea shop and live his life peacfully.
Even then, he had the duty to truthfully report everything, and allow the marshal to make a plan and act upon it.
"Yes, sir. Here's everything we have managedd to gather on him so far." He said as he started to tell both people about the feats Solon had done during the time they had met him.
After 10 minutes of talking Hama finaly knew why that man gave him such a threatening feeling and he understood that they had an uncontrollable force in their hands. One that could help them protect the world, or one that could ruin it completely.
"Leave that man alone. Provide him with a small home and let him open his shop." The marshal said calmly.
"But marshal why? If he is so powerfull we need his help." Hama said with surpise at his superior's decision.
"When we reached out positions we took an oath. We are the army and we will never let civilians battle in our place. Since he is not a soldier, he can live his life normally, he doesn't have to help us. We have no right to obstruct him." The marshal said as he took a scroll from his side and went back to work.
"Now back to work."
"Yes, sir!" Both general shouted loudly while saluting and then leaving the tent.
