Avatar, the spirit of knowledge

Chapter 42: Chapter 42

[Third POV]

As the soldiers started to calm down, the leader of the party started shouting orders at them once again.

"Get your asses up and start working. Even if it left us we have to get out of the water. Otherwise we are dead." He said as he started his earthen propeller once again.

*BOOM*

The sound of thunder and the cold water that started falling from the sky woke the soldiers up as they once again started running around to stir the boat towards the land.

"What was that?" The medic asked as he made sure that the unconsious general was still breathing.

Solon looked at the sea once again as he scanned his mind for the answer.

"That, was a leviathan. The largest known kind of half-spirit in the world. They are mostly extinct due to hunger." Solon commented slowly as the rest of the soldiers listened attentively.

"I thought spirit don't eat. How can die of hunger." A soldier commented.

"The leviathan is not a pure spirit. It's spiritual nature allowed it to evolve in a way that it becomes bigger than possible and it also allowed it to become stronger than most existing creatures. However it didn't give it the ability to survive without material sustenance. It usually feeds upon a creature known to humans as Unagi, however due to the continuous hunting and the low fertility rates the Unagis have gone extinct." Solon corrected the soldier.

"But what abo..."

"Silence!" The leader shouted cutting the soldier's words short.

"Stop wasting time. It's our most valuable resourse." He said as he looked at his map and compass.

"Sir..."

"We have about a hour's journey before we reach dry land." The leader gave orders as he looked at the map.

"Sir..."

"Not right now. We won't rest until..."

"SIR..."

A vein popped at his head.

"WHAT DO YOU WANT?"

"Look at that." THe soldier said as he looked towards the sea terrified.

"It better be important or will spend the next days cleaning the..."

The leader paused as he saw the sea at the horizon rising from it's place.

"Fuck" He said calmly.

"Fuck indeed." The medic added from his side.

[Solon POV]

That was not something I expected. The leviathan showed extrordinary intellect by allowing the soldiers relax while positioning itself for a better attack.

A nice strategy that took advantage of the hope it gave to the humans and neturalising it's own size weakness.

'No wonder it managed to survive so long and grow to this size.'

It was surprising.

Most leviathans didn't grow over 100 meters due to the Unagis knowing how to hide and the fact that those tentacles the leviathans had in their heads didn't make hunting easier.

This particular laviathan managed to reach the length of 1.5 km (0.9 miles).

These kinds of achievements remind me that the concept of knowledge and the concept of intellect that exist under it are one of the most powerful concepts that exist.

A small smile appeared in my face as the leviathan was charging at the boat. A smile that was only noticed by a soldier that was standing next to me.

'Can't have you ruin my disguise.'

[Third POV]

"Brace for impact!!!" Someone shouted as the soldiers started running arround while searching for things to hold on to.

Amidst the chaos, no one took note of a soldier that 'slipped' and fell down failing to hold on to anything.

*SWOOSH*

The wave created by the leviathan crushed into the boat sending it flying the opposite side from which it was heading to.

'It even has the intelligence to push us away from the land.' Solon thought as he took note of some things he found fascinating.

A minute later the boat calmed down as the soldiers made

*ROAR*

A lound and terrifing roar left the sea as the head of the leviathan appeared in the bottom of the sea.

"Get on this platform. We will bend our way to the land, even if we have to exaust our chi and leave our supplies behind." The leader said while creating an earthen platform.

"Ahhh!"

The sound of screaming was heard as the soldier that had slipped was now hanging in the side of the sea.

He had managed to grab onto the side of the boat and was now holding on for his life.

"Help me! Please!"

He shouted with all his strength hoping for someone, anyone to help him.

"Can you grab him?" The leader asked the medic who was the closest to the man.

The medic looked at the man and then at the general he had tied on his back.

"I'm afraid not sir. If I try to then I would risking my and the general's life." The medic shouted back back.

The older soldier gritted his teeth as he made a decision.

"Ignore him and rush here." He said as he tried to ignore the man's screams.

The medic now the only one that was not on the platform rushed to it hoping to cover the distance of 3 meters before the leviathan ate the 6x6 meter boat whole.

Less than a second later he managed to grab the side of the platform that was moving towards the sky while the mouth of the leviathan broke throught the water and encircled the boat.

The man who was left hanging at the boat's side saw the laviathan's teeth closing in on him and he started to scream even louder.

"NO! PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME! I DON'T WANT TO DIE!"

He screamed as the jaws of the leviathan closed around him, preventing him from speaking anymore.

The soldier's faces paled as they saw one of their commrades get swallowed by the leviathan.

'You refused to help him when he could taste death. Yet now you feel sad for him. The human mind is so fascinating. And this time I didn't have to do anything.' Solon thought as he calmly looke at the men.

'I have to study you more. Thankfully our adventure is not over yet.'
