Chapter 47: Chapter 47
Destroying the factories was much easier than I thought. The easiest way to do it was at night. You sneak in, crash the beams and after a while the walls collapse and the ceiling falls in.
Usually followed by a big explosion. But not always. I remember one time when I was destroying a mining facility, there was oil or gas or something explosive, but it exploded so much that I had to be treated for a week and my ears and eyes and skin grew back.
It was then that I thanked all the gods I knew that I had water magic and could heal and control blood. While I was recovering, I found food with the help of blood magic, so I survived. After that, I had to hide because the fire warriors were running around like scorpions. Ozai must have fucked them good to make them fly like that.
When I emerged from the forest a month later, I learned that the entire team I had recruited at Boiling Rock had been captured and publicly executed. It was unpleasant and hurtful, but nothing could be done about it. It was a week or two ago, too late for that. As an apotheosis, my posters were on every pole and tree. The funny thing is, it said I was the Avatar.
I quickly made the transportation I liked so much out of earth and ice instead of glass, and drove at full speed to Coal Island, using water magic. I've been glowing there lately, so maybe they'll remember me, and it won't be far to Katara's mom. Oh, this sucks. And if those old people tell us where and who they sold the house to, it'll be a disaster.
I don't know if I got there in time, but I did. I didn't get caught, but I watched from a distance. The thing is, Kaja was sitting in a restaurant right now. Alone and unguarded, just eating some delicacies. After some thought, I decided not to hurry and not to make a fuss, but to deal with everything, because if I went out in public now, there would be screams and panic, because even on this island, my portrait hangs on every pole.
Kaya had eaten and was about to leave when I saw the fire warriors looking for someone and one of the visitors pointed right at Kaya. Looks like my timing is VERY good after all. I didn't have time to think about it, so I ran into the restaurant, straight to Kaya.
When she saw the fire warriors, Kaya figured it out and started running. I had just enough time to run past the guards, grab Kaya in my arms and run after the guards. It would have been possible to disarm them, but I saw a few more patrols running in our direction.
My speed was good, so it took us about two minutes to get there. It took us about five minutes to get ready because all the guards were in the hut.
They say girls take a long time to get ready. They're lying! It took Kaya about two minutes to pack and wait for the guards.
During this time I was thinking and redesigning my water machine. Digging into my memories, I remembered cars like the sports car. It's a low, cool and insanely expensive car. Remembering the rough design, I made it out of clay. The car was cool, but small. I had to expand it a bit and make it seat six.
Mine in the middle, three in the back and two on the sides. I also left room for stuff. Froze ice on the bottom so there would be less drag on the water. I also made the windows out of ice. And I reinforced it all, using the compression method. I don't think the damn thing's going to fall apart now.
We made it in time. I loaded up, lowered the ship into the water, jumped over the top and launched, pushing myself with water magic. What I didn't know was that the island would be surrounded by warships. Diving was out of the question because there wasn't enough air, and it would take forty kilometers to swim underwater. No reserve is not enough to do that.
I had the impression that the whole fleet was there for me. I don't know how many ships are here, but I'd say at least 300. And the whole armada started shooting burning rocks at us. Each ship had about four or six catapults that could fire.
Of course, not all three hundred ships can fire, because some of them are too far away. But there were enough of them to throw rocks at us. I had to dive quickly because it was unrealistic to dodge. Even in the water it wasn't easy, what was going on above, it's terrible to imagine.
But having survived the first volley, I dived to get air, because right after the first volley came the second volley, and then the third. And there was not enough air. But right after the third came a fourth volley. I had to risk getting out for a few seconds. I'd rather not say what it cost me.
I took out twelve fireballs in ten seconds. That's an insane amount of fire. Diving back into the water, I tried to get closer to the Fire Nation ships as fast as I could, hoping they wouldn't fire on their own.
Apparently, I gave them a hard time, because as soon as they saw me near their ships, they attacked again. The ship near which I surfaced was sunk within thirty seconds. It was lucky that while they were looking for me, while the cannonballs were flying, I managed to get enough air.
I didn't try to run between the ships, hoping to sink them all. You can only do that in movies and cartoons, but here, one hit and that's it.
So I dived again and swam toward the Kingdom of Earth. And, remarkably, I noticed that history likes to repeat itself, because all the way to the shore we had a huge convoy of Fire Nation ships that kept pounding on us.
By the time we got to shore and had traveled a hundred kilometers, with the help of Earth magic, I calmed down a bit. After setting up camp, we all went to bed. We hadn't slept in almost three days, so it was no surprise.
We arrived at noon and woke up in the morning. Almost 24 hours of sleep, but it was worth it. Now we just have to figure out where we are and where we're going.
