It didn't take me a minute to achieve the desired effect. A powerful wave of air spread out from the monk, scattering all the female warriors, and the monk himself turned to me, glowing white eyes staring straight ahead. It was him after all.
«So you weren't lying and it really is an Avatar», I said to the girl, staring intently at the flying monk, «Listen to me carefully. Now you run to the sea and along its edge you make your way to your brother. Then take him and the warriors and run to the village. But I'll distract him.»
«Why should I listen to you?» she managed to sneer at me in this situation.
«Because if I wanted to, you'd be dead by now, and this spectacle was to see if you were telling the truth. And the condition of the Avatar, that's the strongest argument. Now don't argue and get out of here.»
The girl understood and ran away towards the sea. The Avatar glanced at her and turned to me. In an instant, he was running in my direction. It was fast, but I had time to build a wall between us, and the Avatar flew into it.
The Avatar smashed through the wall, but he slowed down considerably. I tried to control his blood, but he was stronger and it didn't work. In response, he sent a huge blast of air at me, spinning me around and sending me flying toward the mountains.
Though I wasn't expecting it, I managed to build up a layer of earth and with a little bit of control I negated the damage. It took me a long way, but I didn't have to go back. The Avatar came at me like a rocket and immediately hit me with an air strike. I couldn't take that, so I drilled into the ground and floated in, popped up behind him and used all the metal I had on me to tie him up.
A few slaps on his back, and his arms and legs sagged with a whip. As I did so, the air surrounding the Avatar completely obliterated the layer of earth above me. But I didn't make it in time, and the residual air currents that dissipated already pinched my skin a bit. It wasn't fatal and would heal quickly, but it wasn't pleasant. I hit the back of him head and finally knocked the Avatar out and sat down next to him.
Now that I was sitting next to him, healing my wounds, I realized how lucky I was. The kid was small, had only one element, and didn't know how to consciously enter the Avatar state. Without at least one of those things, I wouldn't have won so easily, and I wouldn't have won at all. But even though he was just a kid, he had a lot of power.
There was nothing to do, so after healing my skin a bit, I put the Avatar on my shoulder and walked towards the village. It must have been an interesting sight. A naked man with completely red skin carrying a small unconscious boy. But there were no observers, so no one saw it, and I noticed it quickly enough and immediately built up a layer of earth below my waist. So I went home. The girls worked well, so there was no one to be seen on the street.
Soon everyone calmed down and I, having healed my skin, went to look for the others. But I didn't have to look for anyone, they found me. The whole team was in the dojo, along with all the warrior girls and the water tribe children.
«So, now I believe you are the Avatar's team and he is the Avatar», I patted the Avatar on the shoulder, «But I have some questions for you and him», I patted the Avatar on the shoulder again. And the look on everyone's face was one of shock.
«Did you win?» asked the guy from the water.
«I think it's obvious», I shrugged, «First of all, what's your name?»
«My name is Katara, and this is Soka», Katara began as her brother was in shock, «And the Avatar's name is Aang.»
«My name is Yoko. It's nice to meet you.»
«Not so nice to me», Soka said. His sister tried to stop him, but he seemed to get carried away, «You attacked us, unannounced. Ambushed us. And threatened to cut off our legs. You can call it anything but a pleasant encounter.»
«Have you said everything?» I asked calmly. He looked at me and somehow got all gnarly, «Now look at it from our side. We get spies sent to us all the time and we catch them and send them back. Just so you know, safe and sound. You were too young to be a spy, and you were talking nonsense about the Avatar. I had to deal with you quickly, because everyone on this island has responsibilities. This provocation was the quickest way to find out the truth. And as you may have noticed, it worked», I paused to catch my breath, «Any more complaints?» Soka shook his head. I looked at Katara, but she didn't have any either «Are you going to pretend to be asleep for long?» I asked the Avatar. He jumped up from the ground and quickly sat down next to his friends, «So why did you come to the island?»
«We were flying to the North Pole to train an Avatar in water magic. That is why we flew to you», Katara said.
I, on the other hand, was wondering. Should I go with them or not? After all, I could teach the Avatar two elements. I could teach them fire. But is it worth it? On the one hand, I don't want to show off my ability to use multiple elements, and it's dangerous. On the other hand, I have to train the Avatar. But my dilemma was solved by a funny incident. The three of them were all rumbling in their stomachs. They blushed and I laughed.
«Be guests of this island for now, eat and sleep. You will rest, and if you want to fly further, we will give you provisions», they brightened at these words and nodded, «Come, I will introduce you to the chief, he will feed you.»
That was the end of my acquaintance with the Avatar. And I decided that I didn't want to leave here. I wanted to go to the library, but I'd be fine without it. Besides, from what I remembered, the Avatar had become what it had become by traveling, and I didn't want to risk accidentally changing that.
