Chapter 33: Chapter 33
The land magic was a bit tricky. My nerve was not only huge, it was also denser, so I walked all over the land for six months. I even went to the village and put a few gold coins in the place where I got the clothes. It was a small thing, but it made my heart feel better.
But that was over and I had to think about how to get into the Kingdom of Fire. Each option had its advantages and disadvantages. I wouldn't go in under my real name, because my persona there was instant destruction, no matter the cost. I realized. The best option was to go as a refugee. They'd give me papers and put me near the islands.
Without hesitation, I did just that. At the front, there was an unspoken agreement among the soldiers that refugees were not to be touched. I knew this from my time in the army, and knowing many of the details, I was able to cross the front line and obtain my documents as a resident of the Land of Fire. The maximum I can do with these documents is to walk in the former territories of the country, and the island is off limits to me. But here was what I was looking for.
Since I have experience with nerve transplantation and restoration, I decided to try another experiment. The thing is, my fire magic core was tiny. About three times smaller than the water core I had as a child. To get rid of this weakness, training alone would not be enough, so I decided to not only regenerate the fire nerve, but also maximize and compact it.
It was no problem to regenerate it, and after a week it returned to its previous state, and I began my idea. As a sample, I took an old but strong fire mage. He was already an old man, and his core magic was only slightly smaller than my water magic.
He was the one I used as a model. It took two months, but I had a nerve that was a little thicker than my water nerve. It took another six months before the fire nerve was strong enough to start training with it.
I decided to learn from the same old man. Since he wouldn't teach me for free and I didn't want to work, I had to pay. I had to pay quite a lot because the old man was very greedy. But it was no problem for me. In the area where I was, there was a monarchical policy, so everyone paid tribute. Of course, there were clever people who stole the tribute. I hunted such clever people and was quite successful, so I had no problem with money.
The training was done in a hard style. Various racks with weights, running with a log, or doing push-ups over the fire in the fifth month from the beginning of the training were a common thing for me. After such training, I did not look like a mountain of muscles, but I could not be called weak. I had nothing but working muscles. Nothing extra.
What can I say about fire magic? If you put it into Kyoshi's MA, fire magic can be characterized as a constant attack. Every move is an attack, even defensive ones. Every block burns the opponent. Every movement to avoid an attack is a counterattack. And it all depends on several factors.
For example, speed. The faster you make an attack, the faster it will fly. If you breathe properly, the strength of the flame will increase. What the density of the fire depends on, I have not yet understood, it depends on the understanding of the element itself. As well as other parameters. My teacher either doesn't know or is deliberately silent.
I, on the other hand, am constantly experimenting to understand something. And it's paying off. When I use some of the movements from water magic, the fire can be controlled a bit in flight, and when I use from earth magic, the flames become more difficult to destroy.
After a year of training, my teacher told me that he had given me the basics and everything else, and that I should figure out the rest on my own. During that time, water magic had almost recovered, so I began to use it a little bit at a time. So far, it was only the weakest of manipulations, which already put a lot of strain on my nerves, but since there was no damage, I trained the water nerve bit by bit. Since it might have been noticed, I decided it was time to return to Kyoshi Island. At least I was welcome there.

As it turns out, leaving the colonies' territories is much harder than entering them. In the long run, I'm a potential resident who has to pay taxes. So everyone tried to convince me not to leave. Only I didn't want to listen to them. So I tried to go the same way. Except that right at the front I was surprised by a dozen fire soldiers.
And if I had water or earth magic, I wouldn't have any problems, but I only had weak fire magic, so I couldn't fight my way through, and I couldn't swing my fists, because only in the movies could one person defeat ten or a hundred opponents. And that is life, so either surrender or be cunning. Of course, I chose the second option.
I resisted for the sake of appearances, without using fire magic, and as if I had accidentally knocked out two of them, I waited for the right moment and had to remember the old days of war.
There were two of them near me, and to break free of their grasp, I kicked them in the neck. Two future corpses. Each of them had a dagger on his belt. I grabbed them and threw them at the closest one, making two more dead.
Without wasting any time, I jumped to two more and hit them at close range with a fireball. It was not a sight for the faint of heart. But the effect of surprise had worn off and I was attacked with magic. They were standing on opposite sides of me, so it was impossible to eliminate them in one fell swoop. And since I couldn't solve the problem quickly, I decided to ignore them and run away.
