Chapter 3: Soul Gunner
It would seem that after dying to the cube, and meeting Orcus I was sent to a world I knew somewhat but not much as it was a relic of the past. I was in the world of that soul reaper thingy, Bleach, I think it was called? How do I know this? That's because before me was a monster common to that world. In front of me was a lizard-like creature with a white mask and soulless black eyes looking at me like I was its next lunch.
It was about to open its mouth to eat me when the sound of a gun went off and blew the thing's head jerking to the right. Followed up by two more shots of the gun, the landed on its flank and sent it flying across what appeared to be a park. The person that had shot it was walking calmly towards me with a python magnum aimed at the creature. The person was a woman who looked to be in her early thirties at first glance.
She had dark brown hair and green eyes, with a lightly tanned complexion. She wore a casual black tank top with a skull on it, her jeans were tattered with a few cuts here and there, while she wore boots you'd usually see a soldier wear. Her face looked placid as she stared at the creature she had just shot, as it stared me down without doing much at first. Seeing that I was alert and looking at her, she smiled a bit before shooting the thing as it stirred to get up the gun barrel, smoking a white mist that wasn't gunpowder.
With the creature down on the ground, the woman approached it and stamped the but of her gun onto its head. The creature turned into a white light before being replaced by a butterfly that flew off somewhere with a purpose. Looking at the woman, I got up while some blood trickled down my left arm from a cut that I didn't notice. The shirt I was wearing was a long sleeved brown shirt with a skull on it, my pants were cargo shorts, with my shoes being sneakers. However, I really looked small, given that I did make myself a one year old to adapt to this world.
While I stared at the woman approaching me, a voice sounded in my head, sending a shock throughout my body as I seized up. The woman watched me with some worry before smiling as if she thought of something. Thus, she calmly let me seize up as something wracked my body, adjusting me to this world and body.
『 Host soul has been merged with the soul of Zero Carrion. Congratulations on making it out alive, and becoming a part of a new line of Reapers. Due to your soul strength being too much for your body, you shall now undergo a needed genetic adjustment to your body to better house your growing soul.』
The pain was worse than most torture I had been previously subjected to in my previous life. I was literally feeling myself being ripped apart at the molecular level, then rebuilt. The woman watched silently with a troubled smile before the pain stopped after twelve minutes, with my body covered in sweat and dust from the dirt. Dry heaving a little, I got back up onto my feet and looked at the woman more closely as she smiled wryly at me. After a second, she finally spoke up with a soft apologetic tone towards me.
"Sorry, I know you likely have questions, but can we go home? Our family has some unique circumstances that I should explain now. Which I was hoping to do when you were admittedly older."
Shrugging, Zero accepted as he numbly walked after the woman to a small apartment complex. Heading up some stairs, she unlocked a door labelled ten, before letting Zero walk inside first. Entering inside the apartment Zero was greeted by a bare-bones home that had two rooms, a bathroom, and a small kitchen. Closing the door behind him, the woman led him to a dining table as she got a first aid bag off the wall.
Trudging to a seat, Zero weakly got into a chair as his body felt numb still. Sitting in the chair, Zero watched the woman start treating his cut. As the older woman rolled up his shirt sleeve past the cut, she began talking to him.
"I bet you're wondering who I am, right? Well for starters I am your mother. Name is Lara Carrion, I had you on my twenty-ninth birthday last month in July on the tenth."
"Nice to meet you mom, care to explain anything else because this is weird. I'm a grown man in a kid's body, and the first thing I see is a white-masked creature. Then I'm assaulted by my body rebuilding itself after a voice in my head mentioned merging."
"Ah, so you heard Samuel, that means you really did go through the process… Well then let me state the obvious to you first then son. You've definitely reincarnated, but in our family it's not so simple. When someone like me is born in our family and meets a Hollow for the first time. Our soul breaks and our past self that died merges with our soul."
"This can lead to cases of personality changes and the likes, as we've noticed over the generations. You're actually quite lucky your mind didn't shatter due to residual soul imprints. Otherwise, my little boy would be dead, and I would have to shoot you to stop Hollowfication."
"Okay then… Assuming this is real, what did you do in the past? Because I really find that hard to believe, since I just reincarnated and nearly died."
Chuckling, Lara looked at her son as she wrapped his arm up in bandages. She thought a bit before deciding to just tell her son as given the family history, they're both definitely not good people.
"I used to be a soldier under Hitler that helped lead his genocide regime against Jews. I used to be a male, but I've since gotten used to being a woman. I now understand why women always said, "You don't know pain till you birthed it." What about you son?"
Sighing, guessing something about his family, Zero smiled wryly at his new mother. Speaking up, he chuckled as he remembered his last moments alive.
"Special Operations' soldier during world war three in 2040. I was called the Reaper, and I took most of the three armies wanting me dead with me. Now here I am!"
"At least you took the fuckers with you! I was locked in a gas chamber and gassed till I died slowly. Americans were savage if they found us near a gas chamber."
"Eh, too bad they used that idea to teach soldiers how to handle breathing in gas. Along with being captured and locked up without food till you cracked."
The two chuckled silently together as they talked about many things. Eventually, though, Zero took a shower getting changed before hearing something from his new mother.
"You know I would've liked you being a normal innocent child for a while. But it seems fate had other plans, just know I love you Zero. If you'd like, we can help you unlock your Jūki tomorrow. As it'd be best if you got used to it early on."
Chuckling softly, Zero wished his mother good night as he flopped into a rather plain bed. Falling asleep quickly as he had a lot to think about. His small form sinking into the bed a little as he slept, not minding being face first in a pillow. The next morning, Lara woke him up and the two ate breakfast while Lara looked at her son.
Knowing he probably wants an answer to her question last night regarding the Japanese word for firearm. Although he doesn't know what a Jūki was supposed to be in this case, as it shouldn't be so simple. Looking into his mother's eyes, he sighed and shrugged as spoke while eating breakfast.
"Sure why not? It'll be helpful given that hollows and other creatures are lurking about, right?"
"Good, then finish up your breakfast, and we'll start the process, son."
The two finished up their breakfast before talking more in length about what to expect. Learning what is going to happen, Zero sat on the floor as his mother put on a black glove. Soon, she slammed her palm into the back of his head, sending his soul tumbling from his body. Looking at his body, he finally paid attention to his appearance. He was pale with brown hair that was honestly a mess, and he had hazel colored eyes. His body's eyes looked unfocused after having his soul ejected by his mother through using that glove.
"First things first, time to restrain you Zero so that if you start turning hollow it'll be fine."
Saying those words, his mother did a hand movement, before he was bound by chains to the floor. Sighing, Zero looked at his mother as she stayed quiet and stared at him intently. Getting the message, he quietly sat there chained to the floor. His soul looked back into his body's own eyes for a long time. When he finally heard a voice, it had been two weeks of him enduring the process and a feeling bubbling up.
The voice only spoke up as he was about to turn into a hollow, which was strange. As he heard the voice, his vision became a white scenery with a black cube in the sky.
"Welcome your soul's depths young man, I must say for a brat you've impressed me. So before you turn hollow, let me tell you my name, as we shall be working together. I am Megami, my sister who is sleeping is Kūsho, we look forward to our life together."
"Glad to meet ya Megami, and I guess Kūsho? Hope you can put up with me."
"Heard me on the first try, haha, that's an assassin for you!"
Soon Zero's vision returned to normal as he looked at his mother then his hands. In his left hand was a Colt 1911 with an extended magazine tucked into a holster. In his right was a G28 designated marksman rifle, with a sling on it, but both guns had the etchings of skulls in them.
"Oh, you have a dual Jūki? Your lucky son, but that also means you have back up if one gets thrown out of your hands."
