Chapter 128: Chapter 118: Sakaki Plays Ninja Gaiden 1
After the prologue ended, Sakaki eagerly took control of Ryu Hayabusa, navigating through the dark streets and rooftops of the first stage. ZEPS version of Ninja Gaiden blended the NES storyline and setting with the refined gameplay mechanics of the Master System version, making for a uniquely fluid and challenging experience.
As he moved forward, slashing enemies and leaping from platform to platform, Sakaki marveled at how responsive and smooth the controls felt.
"Wow! This is so fluid!" he exclaimed. "It's even better than The Legend of Akechi!"
His excitement was short-lived, however, as he was quickly overwhelmed by enemies wielding guns. They fired at him from both sides, leaving him no room to escape. Within seconds, his character collapsed.
"Damn! This game is hard!" he groaned, gripping his controller tightly.
Determined, he kept playing, slowly getting accustomed to the enemy patterns and platforming mechanics. He managed to collect several power-ups, including Large Shuriken, Spread Shuriken, and Fireball attacks, all of which consumed "N" energy when used. Knowing he had to conserve these for boss fights, Sakaki chose to rely on his sword for most encounters, slicing through waves of enemies as he advanced.
After several attempts, he finally reached the first major area—a dimly lit town filled with shady figures lurking in the background. As he entered a bar, a hulking figure suddenly lunged at him.
"Boss fight!" Sakaki grinned, bracing himself.
The first boss was The Barbarian, a massive brute wielding an enormous axe. He had three distinct attack patterns:
Axe Throw – He hurled his axe toward Ryu's position before it boomeranged back to him.Barbarian Charge – He sprinted at lightning speed across the screen, aiming to ram Ryu.Barbarian Rage – A temporary invincible state where the boss roared and moved erratically.
Sakaki struggled, getting hit multiple times before managing to learn The Barbarian's movements. After a few frustrating deaths, he finally landed the last hit, bringing the giant warrior to his knees.
"YES!" Sakaki pumped his fist into the air.
But before he could celebrate for long, a cutscene played. Ryu was seen meeting a mysterious woman in the bar. As they spoke, she suddenly shot him with drugged bullet and drugged him, causing him to collapse. The scene then faded to black, and when the screen reappeared, Ryu was locked in a prison cell. The woman returned and slipped him a strange-looking statue before leaving. The next stage began—the Prison Fortress.
Sakaki pressed forward, guiding Ryu through dark, cramped corridors filled with guards and traps. Eventually, he climbed onto the rooftop of the fortress, where something unexpected caught his eye.
There, in the background, one ninja vs 4 ninja warriors were engaged in a fast-paced battle. One ninja that fight against 4 of ninja was clad in black with a gray helmet, his eyes glowing like a predator in the night. Their fight really flashy!>
"Wait a minute…" Sakaki squinted at the screen. "That's… Zabo-man!"
His excitement grew. He paused the game momentarily to admire Zabo-man's appearance, taking in the way he fought in the background—a subtle but thrilling cameo , then Zabo-man defeat all 4 ninjas , before posing and give some small text "Ohh you See me? , Nice! , keep fighting You are very cool!" before he disappear
"Man, Zabo-man is always so cool," he chuckled before resuming the game.
As the stage progressed, Sakaki reached the next boss fight: Bomberman. Unlike his NES counterpart, this version wielded a long kusarigama, a chained sickle that allowed for long-range and heavy, swift attacks. His attacks were brutal, keeping Sakaki on his toes.
"Damn! this guy strike are very long damn it!" he muttered, gripping his controller tighter.
Despite the challenge, he managed to defeat Bomberman after multiple tries. Feeling accomplished, he eagerly pushed forward, advancing through Act 3 and then Act 4.
Act 3: The stage was set around a misty lake and an eerie forest. The enemies here were agile, making platforming more difficult. The boss, Basaquer, was a master of martial arts, moving at blinding speeds and attacking with rapid punches and kicks. The fight took place in an area with numerous platforms, giving Sakaki a chance to strike from above.
Act 4: This act took Ryu to a hidden enemy base nestled deep within the woods. Here, he encountered Kelbeross, a three-headed demon dog that lunged at him with deadly precision and poison. The battle was fierce, but Sakaki, now fully immersed in the game, managed to prevail.
With each new stage, Sakaki's excitement grew. He marveled at the seamless blend of cinematic storytelling and intense gameplay , he also keep his N points when in not boss stage , only using it if its really necessary"
"Man, this game is a masterpiece!" he grinned, barely able to contain his enthusiasm.
Finally, he reached Act 5.
This act was the most diverse yet, transitioning between different environments. It began in a dark, foreboding cave, then shifted to a towering wooden structure before culminating in a castle wall showdown. The difficulty spiked dramatically, pushing Sakaki's skills to their limits.
At the very top of the castle, the next boss awaited—Bloody Malth.
A legendary warrior, Bloody Malth was the leader of the Malice Four and the only person to have ever defeated Ryu's father, Jô Hayabusa, in combat. He was cursed, bearing the "Iron Mask of Blood" and the "Shield of Death."
The battle was brutal.
Bloody Malth unleashed waves of powerful energy attacks and moved unpredictably. Every time Sakaki lost, he had to climb all the way back to the boss room, making each failure even more frustrating.
"Argh! This is impossible!" he yelled, nearly throwing his controller.
But he refused to give up.
After hours of persistence, memorizing patterns, and countless retries, Sakaki finally landed the final strike.
"YES! YES! YES!" he jumped up, punching the air in triumph.
He took a deep breath, wiping the sweat off his forehead. His heart was still racing from the intensity of the fight, but he was eager to see what happened next.
"Alright! Time to move on to the next stage , this game is Insanely HARD!" he said, pressing forward.
To be continued...
