Another World Fluffy Cafe

Ch31 - How to Spend a Day Off

Chapter 31: How to Spend a Day Off

Today is the regular day off for the Mofu-Mofu Café, which operates twice a week. When Taichi thought about enjoying a rare morning lie-in and snuggling in bed, he was suddenly interrupted by Luke, who leapt on top of him, shouting, “It’s time for breakfast!”

“It’s heavy…” Taichi grumbled.

“Hmph,” Luke responded.

Looking down, Taichi saw Cerberus had also snuggled in at the foot of the bed.

(Wow, I’m surrounded by affectionate fluff… so happy.)

Taichi grinned, thinking he could endure this weight forever. Just as he was enjoying the moment, Luke reminded him it was time to get up for breakfast.

“Alright, alright, I’ll get ready soon,” Taichi said.

He opened the room window for ventilation and headed to the café’s kitchen.

After finishing breakfast and petting Cerberus and the Berry Rabbits, Taichi pondered what to do next. Improving the café could be a good idea, but that didn’t seem like the right activity for a day off.

Looking at Luke, who was napping comfortably on a beanbag surrounded by a few cuddled-up Berry Rabbits, Taichi thought, “I’ve been in this world for a while now, but there’s still so much I don’t know.”

It seemed nice to spend the day at home with the fluff, but wandering around town could also be fun.

“Oh, maybe I should drop by the Tamer Guild?” Taichi mused.

He wasn’t entirely sure about the details of tamers and their activities, just that they could tame monsters and make them their familiars.

So, he decided to gather information today.

“Hello, Taichi-san. Welcome.”

“Hi there.”

When Taichi arrived at the Tamer Guild, Shalti greeted him. The guild was quiet, with no other tamers in sight.

(Wonder if tamers are usually this scarce…)

Taichi explained to Shalti that he wanted to learn more about tamers.

“You have so many familiars already, it’s amazing, but why do you still have so much to learn?” Shalti asked.

“Ahaha… I came from a distant rural area,” Taichi replied.

Laughing, Shalti brought out a book.

“This is… a Monster Encyclopedia?”

“Yes, it contains information about the monsters currently known to inhabit this world. This is Volume 1.”

“Oh, I see.”

The encyclopedia was thick, with around 300 pages, and since this was just the first volume, there must be more.

(Reading all of this would take quite some time…)

Despite this, Taichi started flipping through the pages. The encyclopedia had detailed illustrations and descriptions of monsters, including their general size, strength rank, and types of attacks. It was clearly aimed at adventurers.

“Wow, it even includes their habitats.”

Monsters were categorized into those with specific habitats and those that could be found anywhere under certain conditions. There were also monsters like Cerberus, whose habitat was unknown.

For instance, Berry Rabbits were found in grasslands, while Ice Wolves were only found in certain snowy mountains.

Taichi looked through the illustrations for any new fluffier additions.

“Wow, there are several types of wolf-like monsters.”

He nodded, imagining the pleasure of petting each one. Shalti laughed as she peered over his shoulder.

“You really do love fluff, don’t you?”

“Yes, that feeling is unmatched. It’s like finding paradise on earth!”

No matter how much he talked about it, he couldn’t express it fully. He loved all types of fluff, whether they were cuddly or aloof.

“Conquering all the wolf-type fluff sounds fun… Huh!?”

Taichi’s attention was suddenly captured by one particular page.

“This…?”

“Hmm?”

Seeing Taichi’s surprise, Shalti tilted her head, confused by his reaction. The page in question seemed to feature a regular monster.

“Oh, it’s a Forest Cat.”

“Forest Cat!!”

Shalti chuckled at Taichi’s enthusiastic reaction. “It’s not a strong monster, so not many people prefer to tame it… but I guess you would.”

Given Taichi’s habit of taming even weak Berry Rabbits, it wasn’t surprising to Shalti.

“The Forest Cat’s habitat is in the forests of the neighboring country, further inland.”

“Neighboring country!!”

(That means it should be relatively easy to get there!)

The Forest Cat depicted in the book resembled a cat but had leaves on its head and tail, making it look like a forest cat.

“I want to go tame one. How long would it take from here?”

“Well, considering you might like this type of monster… Using a shared carriage, it would take about a month one way.”

“A month…”

It seemed like a longer journey than expected, and Taichi sighed.

(If only there were airplanes or shinkansen…)

Being in another world, such options weren’t available.

(Oh, maybe if I ride on Luke’s back, we could get there faster?)

Taichi had an idea and clapped his hands.

“Your face suggests you’re going for it.”

“Did you notice?”

“Of course. The Forest Cat looks adorable, and it might be a nice addition to your café.”

Shalti handed Taichi a map as she said, “If you need a map, take this. It’s not very detailed, but it’s what we provide at the Tamer Guild.”

“Perfect.”

The map showed villages, towns, major forests, and lakes, with borders marked between countries, making it quite sufficient.

“The map shows major places and prominent mountains or forests. If you need more details, ask when you get there.”

“Got it.”

(Alright, time to consult with Luke!)
