Anime Collector: Starting With the Malevolent Shrine

Chapter 150: Chapter 150 ⟴ Saeko Busujima's Obsession

Private Fujimi Academy is a gathering place for children of elite figures in the Shibuya district.

The school maintains connections to local politicians, Public Safety officials, Wall Street financiers, and more. It's said that Shibuya Fujimi Academy models itself after Shuchi'in Academy in Minato, Tokyo.

{T/N: Both are from Tokyo, but Shuchi'in Academy is older.}

Shuchi'in Academy resonates throughout Tokyo with its prestigious background and long history. Its network of connections would make ordinary people despair.

While Fujimi Academy cannot compare to Shuchi'in, who doesn't have dreams?

Perhaps one day, when all the volcanoes in Tokyo erupt or a night parade of a hundred Devils leads to the collapse of the upper echelons, the high officials of Shibuya district might take their place among Tokyo's power structure, gradually taking control of Japan's entire upper class.

Even if that dream remains unfulfilled, Fujimi Academy's position and power in the Shibuya district stands unshaken. When united, they represent the will of Shibuya's elite — what can even the lofty Jujutsu Sorcerers and Onmyōji do about that?

Being under the jurisdiction of the Cabinet of Japan means they're part of the system, making the distance between them less insurmountable.

Unlike Chiba's Sōbu High School, the Shibuya district's prosperity breeds negative emotions. The district's elite have experience dealing with Jujutsu Sorcerers and Onmyōji, often hiring Grade 3 or 4 Sorcerers for pay.

This familiarity has bred less reverence for Jujutsu Sorcerers and Onmyōji. Some Fujimi Academy students have even mastered Cursed Energy, though their strength remains limited due to lacking powerful Innate Techniques.

Of course, those who master Cursed Energy refinement remain a tiny minority. Kōichi Shidōu and other survivors are ordinary people, lacking the innate talent of Onmyōji and Sorcerers.

This has nothing to do with status — you either have talent or you don't. Mastering refinement is rare; mastering Cursed Energy usage, rarer still.

And now before Daiki and Subaru stands such a person.

With Cursed Energy rivaling a Grade 4 Sorcerer and the ability to coat blades with refined Cursed Energy, she was possibly approaching Grade 3 level.

"Little one, it's not polite to block someone's path." Subaru said weakly, leaning on his arm.

Aware that one wrong word might get her cut down by Daiki's Technique, Saeko Busujima bowed respectfully in apology.

Her frenzied eyes betrayed a pathological desire for battle and slaughter. Behind the image of a gentle and virtuous yamato nadeshiko lay another face entirely.

{T/N: Yamato Nadeshiko is how Japanese people refer to a woman with attributes that are traditionally considered desirable from the perspective of men in society; usually attributed to people with traditional upbringing.}

"I apologize, I didn't mean to disturb your rest. Since it's about to rain again, perhaps you'd like to rest at my family's dojo rather than risk getting wet?" Saeko spoke with the grace of a well-bred young lady, suppressing the battle intent in her eyes. Her manner mirrored Subaru's own.

"Is that so?" The girl's shifting expression didn't escape the experienced woman's notice.

She lifted her head toward the grey sky — the earlier downpour had given way to a light drizzle.

"Inspector General Daiki, what do you think?" Subaru asked, hoping to decline Saeko's invitation through Daiki's expected refusal.

Given his typical attitude, she anticipated a direct rejection, which would provide her with the perfect excuse to return to Tsuchimikado Island with her report.

{T/N: Tsuchimikado Island = Base of the Exorcists/Onmyōji; Bureau of Onmyō = Governmental Institution.}

The birth of the Smallpox Deity was deeply troubling — combining the powers of Cursed Spirits, Impurities, and Devils into one being couldn't have occurred naturally.

This suggested an unknown force working in the shadows, and if such entities could be mass-produced, they would become devastating weapons of war.

With volcanic eruptions disrupting Spiritual Veins and breaking more seals, Subaru, as one of the Twelve Guardians of the Bureau of Onmyō, needed to report quickly. These dark forces might be targeting the department itself.

"Inspector General, please visit us! I want to become as strong as you — to fight Cursed Spirits, Devils, and Monsters. To protect everyone's safety." Saeko's eyes fixed eagerly on his face.

She had witnessed the terrifying mushroom cloud rising within his Domain. Without the Barrier Technique and her own Cursed Energy, she might have suffered trauma like the pathetic Kōichi.

Subaru didn't believe a word of the girl's speech.

The subtle changes in Saeko's expression when discussing combat revealed her psychological issues — her words masked a raw hunger for power.

But she held her tongue — if she could see Saeko's issues, Daiki's abilities would surely let him see them too.

As expected, his expression remained unchanged, showing no interest in anything Saeko mentioned. Rather than rest at her dojo, he preferred to visit the Tombs of the Star at Jujutsu High to modify it with the Barrier Techniques granted by the Collection System.

With his rich inheritance from Tengen, Daiki could monitor every movement in the Jujutsu World, and the Tombs of the Star's location remained well-hidden. After modifications, its Barrier would be completely renewed — no one could enter without his permission.

Instead of discussing strength training with Saeko, he would rather guide Yuki's training inside the Tombs of the Star.

Perhaps sensing the sudden surge in Cursed Energy and cellular activity, she had been enthusiastically "practicing" with him, her demeanor aflame. If not for Daiki's concerns about potential changes with the Immortality technique-wielding Tengen, she would likely still be clinging to him with those long legs of hers.

"Inspector General!" Saeko's call fell on deaf ears.

Subaru asked casually before leaving, "Who taught you Cursed Energy? To master it at such a young age, nearly matching a Grade 3 Sorcerer — your foundation is quite solid, showing more potential than your schoolmates."

Too bad about the mentality issues.

Still, mentality problems could be changed through proper guidance. She was willing to give this girl a chance to change.

"Cursed Energy? It was my master, though she never revealed her name. However, her martial arts were exceptional, and she possessed a special Shikigami."

Daiki raised an eyebrow, releasing the Garuda — the Shikigami he had stolen from Yuki and subjugated.

"Could this be the Shikigami you're talking about?"

When she saw the bone whip-like Garuda, Saeko's beautiful eyes widened.

"That's the one, but... why is master's Shikigami—" She stammered.

"I'm quite familiar with your master." A slight twitch played at Daiki's mouth.

"Then would Inspector General permit me to visit? I haven't seen master in so long."

The sight of the tall, powerful Saeko, combined with Yuki's primal charm, made his heart flutter.

The students of Fujimi Academy watched in disbelief as Saeko and Daiki vanished into thin air.

They had been certain their Busujima-senpai would meet her death at his hands.

"Can someone really kill with just a look?" Saya Takagi mused from her spot at the Academy's window, "Why does that sound so familiar?"

Though the memory tugged at her mind, she couldn't place it. As far as she could tell, she alone had witnessed what truly happened.

What is going on?
