Chapter 78: Dignity of the healer
√=
"Are you threatening me?" With a look of disbelief, the elderly healer asked. Master Azriel had always been the one who handed down threats. The second it was his turn, his feathers were ruffled in the wrong direction.
Xavier eyed the man with distaste. He said to him, "No. I am stating a fact, if you dare to touch Lord Damien then I will have no choice either but to rip your head off." His eyes narrowed slightly as he added softly, "I can't have you touch my master, Lord Azriel."
Lord Damien was his master — even if that man was no longer a full-fledged beastman with his core destroyed, he was the person whom Xavier was protecting.
And anyone who dared to cause trouble for his master deserved to die.
His eyes flashed as his beast surged to his surface and a threatening growl rumbled in the room causing Master Azriel to stiffen.
Silence solidified in the room as Xavier's aura started to stifle the air, making it impossible for others to breathe.
"Dan, are you there?" Damien called the AI system with a blank look on his face as he watched the sparks flying all over the room.
"I am right here, Host," Dan replied with his arms crossed in front. He naively blinked his eyes completely unfazed by the trouble that was brewing in front of them.
"Do you have anything — like a special reward or something for me?" Damien asked as lord Azriel raised his finger and pointed at Xavier as if he were accusing him of dire malevolence.
His shrill voice echoed in the room, "How dare you threaten me! I will have you thrown in prison for disrespecting me, you filthy mutt."
"A mutt?" Xavier's eyes, if possible turned even more murderous as he unsheathed the sword from the sheath that was strapped on the side of his waist. "For that, I will rip that tongue out of your mouth."
"Get away from me!!" Azriel shrieked as he hid behind Gina.
Behind him, Damien could hear Adikus sobbing along with Martha.
"It is all my fault. I am so silly and useless — I can't even get a blood-replenishing pill for you."
"Sigurd. I am sorry… I am sorry."
A tired sigh escaped Damien's lips. He knew that if he didn't do anything right now — chaos would reign in this room.
"Hmm?" Dan blinked his eyes.
Noise erupted all around them, with tearful sighs and curses, as if the entire room was about to turn into a battlefield.
"Let me see."
BOOM!
"Hurry!" Damien said.
[Ding.]
[Congratulations! You saved another life.]
[Rewards: +78 points.]
[Total Fame Points: 756.]
[Would you like to use these points to purchase Equipment for Blood Transfusion?]
Damien turned and glanced at the screen upon hearing the notification.
The second he took a look at the price of equipment for the entire Blood transfusion, Damien sucked in a breath, completely overwhelmed by the points that were supposed to be exchanged for this purchase.
[Purchasing Points: 756]
"This is unfair," he muttered while staring at the screen. His tone was filled with anger and frustration. "You capitalistic system, how can you ask me to use every single point that I have?" He had worked like a slave to collect so many points and was looking forward to purchasing a new scalpel.
Dan calmly glanced at him. He tilted his head to the side like a curious child and remarked in a casual tone, "Were you not the one who said that for the sake of saving a life, one should be prepared to take the greatest risk?"
"Didn't you believe that medical facilities should be provided to everyone irrespective of their position and status?"
"Were you not hoping to change this world?"
Damien was dumbstruck. He slowly turned his head and looked at Dan who stared right back at him. Neither of them said a word and yet somehow, a lot of things were said. Most of them involved curses and threats.
"Are you going to purchase the equipment, host?" Dan asked.
Like he had any other choice, thought Damien with a sullen expression.
Taking one last final look at the points that were sitting at the close of the screen, Damien closed his eyes and jabbed his fingers at the purchase option.
[You have purchased IV access successfully.]
[You have purchased Blood Administration set.]
[You have purchased an IV pole successfully.]
[You have purchased Blood Warmer successfully.]
[You have purchased Infusion Pumps successfully.]
[Tubestrip, Qseal Multi and air have been added to the inventory.]
[The monitoring equipment kit has been sent to the inventory.]
"Congratulations, host. You have successfully purchased the blood transfusion equipment," Dan said to Damien.
However, Damien couldn't find the treat in this entire ordeal as the obnoxious and hateful 0 glared down at him. The points have been used, leaving him dirt poor.
But he didn't even get a chance to cope with this sudden loss as Gina yelped when Azriel swiped his claws at Xavier who retaliated by snapping his fangs at his face, almost taking a chunk of Azriel's nose away with him.
"Stop everyone! Stop!" Damien turned to look at the brawl taking place behind him. Gina was pulling Xavier back, while Thalia had her fingers knotted in Azriel's hair, a huge chunk of hair had already been ripped off.
Maui was biting Azriel on the cheek while Xavier and Azriel fought with their legs. Goodness, it seemed like he needed to teach them how to keep their silence in a place where patients were treated.
Of course, he expected much better from Lord Azriel but he shouldn't have kept his hopes up.
"Lord Damien?" Xavier turned to look at him, his eyes filled with disgust. "This slimeball needs his guts ripped out and shoved right up his arse for the things that he has said about you."
"You… such foul language towards a respectable man like me! I am going to file a complaint to the council!"
"I said no lies."
"Preposterous!" Azriel exclaimed before turning to look at Damien. "Is this how you teach your servants, lord Damien? You can't even reign control and assert authority over this half-breed, how can you even become a healer?"
"It is a dignified job."
