Chapter 5
Chapter 5: Breaking Off the Engagement With Su Mengyao:
“Is Qin Yuan truly mad?”
“How could he raise a hand against Fairy Su?”
The members of the Su family were stunned, completely taken aback by what had just happened.
“Qin Yuan, how could you do that to Mengyao?”
“She’s just a woman!”
“Are you even human to treat her like this?”
Lin Yun, equally shocked, hurried over to help Su Mengyao. He glared at Qin Yuan, his voice filled with outrage.
He puffed up his chest and spoke as if standing on the highest moral ground, condemning Qin Yuan for his actions.
“And who do you think you are, Su Mengyao? Does our Holy Son owe you any explanation?”
Before Qin Yuan could respond, his followers spoke up in his defense, their voices filled with anger.
It seemed as though they were ready to rush forward and start a fight.
“How dare you! Fairy Su and the Holy Son are speaking, who gave you the right to interrupt?”
One of the deacons scolded angrily, his eyebrows furrowed in frustration.
“If you keep talking out of turn, you might find yourself reflecting on your mistakes on the cliff face!”
“Su Fangshan, to hell with you and your arrogance!”
The disciples weren’t intimidated by Su Fangshan’s outburst; instead, it only fueled their anger. They started hurling insults at him without hesitation.
“Who do you think you’re fooling with that act?”
“You’re just a small-time deacon, and if it weren’t for the Holy Son, you wouldn’t even be able to step foot inside the outer gates!”
“And you dare to lecture us? What a joke!”
“Keep barking, and you’ll find yourself in serious trouble one day!”
“You… you!!!”
Su Fangshan was seething, his face turning an ugly shade of red.
He couldn’t believe that these disciples had the audacity to insult him. It was outrageous!
Normally, these people were timid in his presence.
Why were they suddenly bold enough to stand up to him today?
…
“Qin Yuan, you owe Mengyao an explanation!”
“If not, then I will personally deal with you today!”
Lin Yun puffed out his chest, his voice powerful and inspiring, urging everyone from the Su family to rally behind him.
Su Mengyao was nearly moved to tears by this display of support.
The sense of security Lin Yun provided filled her heart with warmth.
This was the man she adored.
No matter how powerful Qin Yuan was, he couldn’t offer her the same protection that Lin Yun did in times of danger. He could never compare to Lin Yun.
What Su Mengyao didn’t realize was that in the original plot, Qin Yuan had silently done so much more for her, standing up for her countless times.
But those efforts went unnoticed.
Instead, she was easily moved by the small gestures Lin Yun made, cruelly blind to the reality around her.
“An explanation?”
“What explanation do I, the Holy Son, need to give you?”
“And who do you think you are that I should explain myself to you?”
Qin Yuan stood with his hands behind his back, his gaze as cold as ice.
“Hmph!”
Lin Yun’s frustration grew.
“As the Holy Son of the Heavenly Holy Land, you not only bully the weak, but you also mistreat a defenseless woman in public.”
“Qin Yuan, don’t you feel any shame?”
Lin Yun’s voice rang out righteously, filled with conviction.
“And on top of that…”
Lin Yun’s gaze shifted to Su Qing.
“Su Qing is merely an outer disciple with no significant background or strength. What crime could he have committed to deserve being sent to a sinister place like the Black Devil’s Cave?”
“Is it because he’s an outer disciple that you feel entitled to bully him? If that’s the case, then I, Lin Yun, will risk my life to report this to the higher-ups of the Holy Land! I’ll expose how you, Qin Yuan, are abusing your power, disregarding the rules of the sect, and committing evil deeds!”
Lin Yun’s voice was filled with passion, echoing throughout the hall like a bell. He could already imagine the scene of Qin Yuan being condemned by everyone, with himself being hailed as a hero.
“Lin Yun…”
Su Mengyao gazed at him with teary eyes, her heart swelling with admiration.
Lin Yun’s actions moved her deeply. Her man was standing up for her and her brother. It confirmed that choosing Lin Yun had been the right decision. He was the man of her dreams.
“Qin Yuan, you must give us an explanation!!”
“Otherwise, we will definitely report you to the higher-ups of the Holy Land for your misconduct, abusing your authority, and bullying your fellow disciples!!”
Lin Yun’s words ignited the enthusiasm of the Su family disciples, who began to loudly question Qin Yuan. It seemed as though they were united in their criticism of him.
But before Qin Yuan could respond, the people around him burst into mocking laughter.
“Hahaha!!!”
“What did I just hear? Reporting to the higher-ups of the Holy Land?”
“Does Lin Yun really think he can report the Holy Son?”
“Hahaha, that’s the funniest joke I’ve heard this year. Is he out of his mind? Reporting the Holy Son?”
“Who do you think you are, really?”
“Do you think your Su family has any real power? Let me tell you, even if your entire Su family tried, you couldn’t touch a hair on the Holy Son’s head!”
“People need to be aware of their own limitations!”
“If it weren’t for Holy Son’s support, your Su family would have been devoured by other forces long ago.”
Anyone with a bit of background knew how terrifying the Qin family was, an existence that could only be worshiped from afar.
Report?
It’s a wonder Lin Yun’s head was still attached.
Qin Yuan looked at the pair of them and didn’t know whether to laugh or shake his head.
Were these people naïve or just plain stupid?
In the original novel, Lin Yun had actually succeeded with this plan, but only because the original Qin Yuan was too foolish.
If he had been even slightly smarter, none of this would have affected him.
But instead, he made a mountain out of a molehill, attracting the attention of the Yunmeng Clan, a family that was an enemy of the Qin family.
The Yunmeng Clan was also a family of great power, comparable to the Qin family.
The original Qin Yuan’s stupidity not only allowed Lin Yun to succeed but also gave him a stronger backing.
But now, with current Qin Yuan becoming the villain of this novel, he wasn’t about to make such a foolish mistake.
“Qin Yuan, what do you think of the sect’s rules?”
Seeing that Qin Yuan remained silent, Lin Yun mistook it for fear and grew even more arrogant, thinking he had won.
Qin Yuan glanced at him.
He despised talking to people without common sense—it was exhausting.
But he knew what Lin Yun’s real motive was.
Didn’t he just want to show off in front of Su Mengyao and force Qin Yuan to break off the engagement with her, so he could swoop in and take advantage?
This plotline was in the original novel.
Back then, Qin Yuan and Su Mengyao had an engagement.
The Su family at that time was extremely weak and vulnerable. Qin Yuan, infatuated with Su Mengyao, had agreed to the engagement after some discussion.
The original Qin Yuan cared deeply about the engagement, but the current Qin Yuan didn’t care at all.
After all, he had no interest in Su Mengyao—a superficial beauty who pretended to be virtuous while secretly disparaging others.
“I’m not interested in playing these games with you, and there’s no need to hide your intentions. You’re interested in Su Mengyao, right? Fine, you can have her.” Qin Yuan’s voice was cold, with an air of superiority.
When he said this, it was like he was talking about something trivial.
And when he mentioned giving Su Mengyao to Lin Yun, his tone carried a hint of superiority, as if he were bestowing a gift.
“From this day forward, the Su family has no connection to me, Qin Yuan. Tomorrow, I’ll personally visit your Su family to break off the engagement!”
Boom!
Qin Yuan’s words sent shockwaves through the crowd.
Everyone’s eyes widened, their mouths hanging open in disbelief. Su Mengyao was frozen in place, as if struck by lightning.
What had she just heard?
Qin Yuan actually wanted to break off the engagement?
Over such a minor incident, he wanted to end things with her?
How could he do this?
