Chapter 50
On the way back from the bonfire party, Li Muzi and Jiang Shiyu eagerly shared what had happened afterward. Since being pulled away by Shen Li halfway through the game, the four of them had been separated until they met again in the parking lot at the end. The two little cats were so excited, leaning in close, chattering away. As soon as they got out of the car, Li Muzi linked arms with Jiang Shiyu and they went inside together, all friendly and intimate, leaving the other two behind without even saying goodbye.
The two left in the car exchanged looks, with Shen Li resting one hand on the steering wheel, looking impatient. “What? Do I need to ask you to get out?”
Chen Xu quickly opened the backseat door and scrambled out.
Shen Li parked the car and went upstairs from the underground parking. Not seeing Jiang Shiyu in the room, he walked to Li Muzi’s door and knocked.
“Who is it?”
“It’s me.”
Soon, the sound of hurried footsteps came from inside, and the door was pulled open. Jiang Shiyu poked his head out, his face still full of smiles.
“Do you need something?”
Seeing his appearance, still caught up in the conversation, Shen Li was silent for a few seconds before saying, “Go back to the room, wash up, take your medicine, and then you can come back and play.”
Jiang Shiyu had had quite an emotional evening. He had danced, sweated, and been exposed to the sea breeze. Even though his physical examination results showed no issues, he still needed to be cautious in daily life. Shen Li coaxed him back to the room.
On the way back, he kept chattering, talking about the dancing that evening. It was clear he had enjoyed himself and had already pushed the unpleasant events from earlier out of his mind.
Even when it came time to take his medicine, Shen Li didn’t have to coax him much; he obediently took it. Shen Li then found his pajamas.
“Go take a shower and change your clothes. I noticed your skin got rubbed red in several places.”
The fabric of the Hawaiian shirts and shorts they were wearing was quite rough. Jiang Shiyu’s skin was sensitive to such friction, and the earlier teasing from Shen Li had left his chest particularly sensitive. A little more irritation, and his skin might break.
“Hurry up and go. You might catch a cold if you stay sweaty after the sea breeze, even though it’s warm here.”
Jiang Shiyu hugged his clothes. Just before entering the bathroom, he poked his head out, a mischievous grin on his face. “Shen Li, you’re like a mom.”
This term was something Li Muzi had taught him.
After saying that, he quickly ducked back, and the door shut with a bang.
Facing the closed bathroom door, Shen Li was silent for a long while before shaking his head with a smile.
When Jiang Shiyu came out of the shower, he was still surrounded by steam. Shen Li waved him over to sit on the chair and stood behind him with a hairdryer.
“There’s some medicine on the table. Apply it wherever you’re sore.”
The noise of the hairdryer was loud, so Jiang Shiyu didn’t hear him. He tilted his head up, looking at Shen Li with big eyes. Shen Li had to turn off the hairdryer and repeat what he’d said.
Jiang Shiyu looked at the ointment on the table for a moment, then unscrewed the cap, dipped his finger in it, lifted his shirt, and applied some around his hip bones. The waistband of his shorts had rubbed the skin there red, causing some itching. The cool ointment felt much better when applied.
The temperature here was high, so his hair dried quickly. After setting down the hairdryer, Shen Li glanced at the ointment on the table.
Jiang Shiyu had only applied it to his hip bones right in front of him and hadn’t applied it anywhere else.
“Lift your shirt.”
Jiang Shiyu was looking at his phone. When he heard him, he looked up, puzzled.
“I noticed your neck was also red when we came back. Lift your shirt, and I’ll apply the ointment for you.”
Half of Jiang Shiyu’s attention was still on his phone, and he trusted Shen Li. Without much thought, he lifted his shirt, not considering why Shen Li needed him to lift his shirt just to apply ointment to his neck.
It wasn’t until he felt a slight stinging and cooling sensation on his chest that he realized what was happening.
“Shen Li, what are you doing?”
By the time he thought to pull his shirt down, it was too late. The cotton pajamas had been pulled down below his neck, exposing a large portion of his chest. The area was still swollen and red from the earlier teasing, with clear signs of overstimulation.
Even after a while, the redness hadn’t faded. The area remained prominently swollen, with faint signs of skin irritation.
“Don’t move. If you don’t apply the ointment, it’ll swell more by tomorrow, and you won’t be able to wear clothes.”
Jiang Shiyu, unable to resist, covered his eyes in surrender, pretending not to see. He muttered complaints under his breath, blaming Shen Li.
Under the bright white light, the boy lying on the bed had skin even whiter than the sheet beneath him—smooth and translucent, like a finely nurtured pearl inside a shell, glowing softly.
But this pure and beautiful body, like a work of art, was covered with bold marks—some dark, some light, some deep, some shallow—that would make anyone blush.
After finally applying the ointment, Jiang Shiyu quickly pulled his shirt down, trying to get up and leave, but Shen Li’s arm blocked his way.
“What now?”
His voice was soft, like it had been smoothed by emotion, especially after the embarrassment hadn’t fully faded, making it sound like he was pouting.
“Your legs too.”
He tensed up, seeing Shen Li’s serious expression. He immediately grabbed the waistband of his pants, pretending to pout. “Can I do it myself?”
Shen Li, having already tasted sweetness, didn’t push him too far. Handing the ointment to him, he said, “Apply it carefully yourself. I’ll check when you’re done.”
Taking the clothes from the chair, he turned and headed to the bathroom.
Lying on the bed, Jiang Shiyu pouted so much that his lips nearly touched his nose.
He suspected that Shen Li was getting back at him for calling him a “mom” earlier.
After Shen Li finished showering, he found the room empty. His phone had a message from Jiang Shiyu, saying he had gone to see Muzi. He replied with an “Okay,” just as a call came in.
It was from the villa’s housekeeper. While no one was in the house, the housekeeper took care of everything. He and the others weren’t used to having too many people around, so they hadn’t asked the housekeeper to stay.
“Young Master, everything is ready. Shall we start at midnight as planned?”
“Young Master, everything is ready. Shall we start at midnight?”
He checked the time; it was just about right. “Yes, midnight.”
The person on the other end said a few more things. After listening to some reminders and going over a few details, he hung up the phone.
At 11:30, he brought Jiang Shiyu out of Li Muzi’s room, sending a quick message to Chen Xu along the way.
Jiang Shiyu was lazily dragging his slippers, shuffling along like a lazy cat. Seeing Shen Li leading him upstairs, he asked, “Aren’t we going back to the room to sleep?”
“Looking at you now, you wouldn’t be able to sleep anyway. I heard that the stars are particularly beautiful by the seaside at night, so I’m taking you to the rooftop to see them.”
Jiang Shiyu was indeed very happy tonight. If he went back to his room now, he would probably toss and turn for a long time. Hearing Shen Li mention stargazing, his eyes lit up with interest, and he eagerly followed along.
The villa’s rooftop had been designed to be cozy and inviting. The ground was covered with artificial grass, and three sides were fenced with bamboo and tree stumps, with small twinkling lights strung above. The ambiance was perfect at night. Green potted plants were placed in the corners, illuminated by soft lighting. The villa’s location offered a stunning sea view from every angle, but the rooftop had the broadest view. Though it was dark, the waves could still be faintly seen at night.
After reaching the rooftop, the two of them each found a lounge chair to lie on, gazing up at the endless sky dotted with stars. The nearby waves gently crashed against the shore. The excitement and joy of the evening seemed to settle down at this moment.
“Shen Li, I really like it here,” Jiang Shiyu said, looking at the stars that seemed within reach.
These were views that couldn’t be seen in the bustling city, where the night was already filled with neon lights, and the noise and excitement had become synonymous with the city’s nights. Even until the early hours, the city never slept.
Shen Li turned to look at him. The person lying on the chair had wide, joyful eyes fixed on the sky, with long eyelashes casting shadows, making his expression and features even softer.
He thought that the stars above couldn’t compare to the person in front of him. “If you like it, we can come here often.”
Jiang Shiyu nodded, “Next time, let’s come with Aunt Bai Yun and Uncle too.”
Time quietly approached midnight. Jiang Shiyu, having spent the entire day playing, started feeling sleepy while lying on the chair. He covered his mouth, stifling a small yawn, and was about to suggest going back to the room.
“Bang! Bang!”
Suddenly, the loud sound startled him out of his sleepy daze. He quickly turned around and saw fireworks exploding in the sky.
He was stunned, watching as the fireworks bloomed before his eyes.
Shen Li walked over, gently pinching the soft cheek of the little cat, smiling, “What, are you too shocked?”
It took Jiang Shiyu a moment to snap out of it. He stared blankly at Shen Li, asking what was going on.
“Are they beautiful?” Shen Li didn’t answer but asked in return.
These fireworks clearly cost a lot, with each burst bigger than the last, lighting up the night sky and the seaside.
“Beautiful,” Jiang Shiyu answered, still in a daze.
“Do you like them?”
He nodded.
Shen Li smiled indulgently, “I’m glad you do. They’re for you.”
Jiang Shiyu felt that the fireworks weren’t exploding in the sky but in his chest. Otherwise, why would his chest suddenly feel so warm, and why was his heart beating faster?
His eyes grew warm, as if something was about to overflow.
“Why did you suddenly give me this?”
Shen Li took out his phone and pulled up an old post from a year ago that he had set to be visible only to himself.
It read, “The fireworks today are beautiful. I hope one day I can give Little Cat his own fireworks show.”
Jiang Shiyu blinked, and Shen Li pointed to the post, saying, “This was posted by the Shen Li before he lost his memory. I think he was talking about you. The things Shen Li before his memory loss didn’t get to do, I’ll do them. I want you to know that the Shen Li now loves you even more. I’ll fulfill all those unfinished promises and commitments.”
Tears instantly welled up and spilled over, like pearls on a broken string, silently streaming down his cheeks. The fireworks exploded into brilliant and grand displays in the sky, quickly fading, but the warmth left in Jiang Shiyu’s heart wouldn’t dissipate.
Unable to hold back any longer, he threw himself into Shen Li’s broad and warm embrace. Shen Li wrapped his arms tightly around him.
In the midst of the fireworks’ bloom, the lovers shared a kiss.
The past and the future intertwined; the present moment was just right.
