Chapter 48
They were at a barbecue stand, eating for a while when suddenly someone came over to greet them.
“Chen Xu, Shen Li, I spotted you from afar, and it’s really you!” A guy walked over with a surprised expression.
Chen Xu turned around and saw the person, equally surprised. “Xu Fang, what are you doing here?”
The newcomer was a student from the Sports Academy they had met during an outdoor training camp. They had all stayed in the same dorm and got pretty familiar with each other. It was unexpected to run into him here.
“Well, it’s winter break, and one of my friends isn’t doing too well, so I teamed up with some friends to come out and have some fun.”
Chen Xu responded, “We’re here for the same reason.”
“Perfect! We’ve set up a tent and barbecue grill over there, and quite a few young people have joined in. Come on, join us!”
The bonfire party wasn’t starting until eight, so there was still some time to kill. Staying here meant just chatting and watching the sea breeze. Joining in on a group activity sounded much better.
But off to the side, Jiang Shiyu and Li Muzi quickly exchanged glances, noticing that among the group of people Xu Fang was pointing at were the same guys who had earlier tried to get Jiang Shiyu’s WeChat ID.
Li Muzi helplessly pursed his lips and quietly leaned over to whisper, “It looks like a gathering of people who already know each other. We can’t not go over, but don’t worry, as long as we don’t feel awkward, the awkwardness will be on them.”
As they approached, Jiang Shiyu noticed the guy who had tried to get his WeChat ID earlier, sitting by the fire and staring directly at him. He pretended not to see him, lowering his head as she walked behind Shen Li.
The guy and his group of onlookers also noticed him and became excited, giving him knowing looks and whispering among themselves. They had no idea what Jiang Shiyu had said to the guy earlier and assumed he had come over voluntarily, thinking he had a chance.
Xu Fang introduced Shen Li and his group to everyone. The group consisted of young university students, and seeing the four new guys, who all had outstanding appearances and auras, everyone warmly welcomed them.
Except for the guy who had tried to get Jiang Shiyu’s WeChat. His expression stiffened as soon as they arrived. He silently observed the three other guys with him, wondering which one might be his boyfriend.
With the addition of four people, seating became a bit tight. Xu Fang found two beach chairs from the tent, and Shen Li and Jiang Shiyu sat together, while Chen Xu and Li Muzi sat on the other side.
Before they arrived, the group had been playing a game of Truth or Dare. The presence of four handsome guys made everyone even more excited, and they eagerly asked if they wanted to join. In this kind of atmosphere, it was hard to refuse.
The game soon resumed. The spinning bottle wobbled and stopped at the three o’clock position. Jiang Shiyu followed the direction of the pointer.
It pointed at the same guy who had earlier asked for her WeChat.
“Zhou Zheng, come on, draw a card. Truth or Dare?” The guy sitting next to him was particularly excited, urging him on.
Most of the people present had joined later and didn’t know about his earlier dare punishment.
He reached for the Dare cards, paused for a few seconds, then moved away and quickly drew a Truth card.
“Let’s see, what’s the Truth question?”
“Describe the last time you felt your heart skip a beat.”
“Ooooh!”
The guys around him started to tease him, their gazes shifting back and forth between him and Jiang Shiyu.
Shen Li noticed the frequent glances and the amused expressions of the group, assuming this guy had a crush on someone nearby, which made things more interesting.
“Hurry up, Old Zhou, tell us about the last time you felt your heart skip a beat.”
Someone next to him urged, and Zhou Zheng, holding the card, didn’t dare let his gaze fall in a particular direction. After stalling for a few minutes, he slowly answered, “Half an hour ago.”
Such a recent time made everyone even more curious.
“Be more specific, Old Zhou. What exactly made your heart skip a beat?”
His friends egged him on, enjoying the drama.
He couldn’t avoid it any longer and reluctantly continued, “Half an hour ago, I was dared to ask a guy for his WeChat ID. He was squatting by the road and looked up to ask what I was doing. His eyes were very bright, and my heart started racing.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the group became excited, and everyone started asking which guy it was, whether he was there, and who he was.
Everyone’s curiosity about the gossip was intense, except for Jiang Shiyu, who sat there with a tense expression, her lips tightly pressed together.
Zhou Zheng’s friends, still not satisfied with the level of excitement, answered on his behalf, “The guy is right here among us, Old Zhou, you better make the most of it.”
In the rounds that followed, Zhou Zheng, either due to bad luck or something else, kept getting chosen by the pointer. Each time, he chose Truth, and the questions seemed to conspire against him, growing increasingly ambiguous. If they kept going, he would practically have to name Jiang Shiyu.
As the rounds went on, Jiang Shiyu’s expression grew darker. Even though his delicate features made it hard to tell when he was upset, Shen Li noticed something was wrong and asked if he was feeling unwell.
He said he wanted to go to the restroom.
“I’ll tell Xu Fang, and I’ll take you.”
The two of them left the group, and Zhou Zheng’s gaze instinctively followed Jiang Shiyu’s departing figure. After observing for a while, he realized that the guy with him was probably his boyfriend.
Walking along the wide, straight road, the dim streetlights stretched their shadows long. Jiang Shiyu kept his head down, the sound of his shoes scuffing against the pavement.
When they reached another streetlight, Shen Li stopped him, standing in front of him. The light cast a warm glow on Jiang Shiyu’s translucent skin, making his face appear almost poreless up close.
His big eyes held a mix of frustration and irritation. Shen Li playfully brushed his eyelashes.
“What’s wrong? You’re not happy?”
He pouted, unwilling to speak. He had been spoiled by Shen Li lately, his temper flaring more often. Even though it wasn’t Shen Li’s fault, he directed his frustration at him.
Shen Li pinched his pouty lips and pointed at their shadows on the ground.
“Doesn’t it look like a pufferfish?”
Their shadows showed Jiang Shiyu’s round side profile, resembling the soft, plump cheeks of a child.
“Hey, our little pufferfish is upset and won’t talk. I don’t even know how to cheer him up.”
Hearing this, Jiang Shiyu paused, his round cat-like eyes lifting to meet Shen Li’s gaze. His dark lashes made him look as if he had naturally lined eyes, giving him an innocent, almost pitiful expression without even trying.
“Shen Li, I don’t want to go back and play that game. It’s so annoying.”
Shen Li pulled him into a comforting hug, soothing his back like one would pet a cat.
Though Jiang Shiyu had been spoiled by him recently, usually just acting like a cute cat and playfully pouting, this was one of the rare times he was genuinely upset.
Shen Li observed him for a moment before something clicked in his mind, which he quickly grasped.
“What happened while I was parking?”
Jiang Shiyu looked up in surprise, meeting his steady gaze.
When they returned to the group, they were holding hands, the gesture so natural and honest that everyone noticed. Reactions ranged from surprise to shock and disappointment.
Zhou Zheng’s friends nudged him with their elbows. “What’s going on here?”
Zhou Zheng’s gaze fell on the two of them, their affectionate behavior making it clear. He had suspected it but had been in denial. They had stayed together since they arrived, their bodies naturally leaning toward each other when seated, with subtle, intimate gestures.
Humans often feel a thrill when uncovering a hidden relationship, and everyone present did too. Though the two didn’t say anything, the group assumed they were a couple.
Not to mention, with their outstanding appearances, the relationship between the handsome guys naturally drew even more attention.
The game resumed, and the first spin of the bottle stopped in front of Shen Li. Everyone’s eyes lit up, sensing something interesting was about to happen.
Shen Li had broad shoulders and a relaxed demeanor. When he first arrived, he seemed like a lazy, laid-back guy. But after returning with the other guy, his aura had changed. Though he still appeared casual, the sharpness in his features under the light made him seem a bit unapproachable. He casually draped his arm over the back of the chair beside him, possessively pulling the other guy into his space. If you looked closely, you’d notice that during the game, he had already locked eyes with Zhou Zheng several times, each time causing him to quickly look away like a guilty child caught spying.
Under everyone’s gaze, Shen Li lazily rested his arm on his knee. Without getting up, he randomly drew a Dare card from the table.
Without even looking at it, he flipped it open and laid it on the table.
“Pick someone around you for the candy challenge. If the other person refuses, you have to draw three Truth cards as a penalty.”
Everyone clearly saw the punishment on the card, and a few girls who had heard of the game gasped, their expressions turning excited.
Shen Li was unfamiliar with the rules of the game, so Li Muzi eagerly stood up to explain.
“The candy game is where you’re blindfolded, then you pick someone to kiss while tasting different flavors of lollipops. You have to guess the flavor correctly during the kiss.”
Li Muzi, an avid online surfer who’s seen all sorts of couple challenges, found this little game to be nothing extraordinary.
“Wow, this game sounds interesting,” someone exclaimed.
Compared to the previous mild punishments, the candy game was finally something more adult, and everyone’s eyes turned to Shen Li, then shifted suggestively toward Jiang Shiyu, who was sitting beside him.
“Come on, hurry up, handsome, pick someone to play with.”
“Why not the little beauty right next to you? You two were holding hands so affectionately earlier, just the two of you should play.”
The crowd started to coax them, and Jiang Shiyu nervously blinked his long lashes. He stole a glance at Shen Li and found that he was already looking at him with a teasing smile.
His heart skipped a beat, and he stammered, “Me?”
The guy across from them froze for a moment, then his smile faded, carrying a hint of threat as he asked, “Or should I pick someone else?”
A chill ran down hi back, and he quickly straightened up, “Pick me, pick me!”
Shen Li let out a small snort, then reached for five lollipops and a black blindfold from the table.
Feeling a bit guilty, Jiang Shiyu took the blindfold from his hand and put it on him. Shen Li, who was a head taller, needed to lower his head for the blindfold to be put on. The usually rebellious Shen Li naturally bowed his head in front of Jiang Shiyu, and the black blindfold covered his sharp, deep eyes, softening his aggressiveness, revealing his high nose and defined facial features.
Their actions were smooth and coordinated, making them seem very familiar with each other, further confirming the ambiguous nature of their relationship.
After the blindfold was securely tied, Jiang Shiyu started to pull his hands away, but one of his hands was suddenly caught. Shen Li’s warm, dry palm enveloped his soft fingers, making him flinch from the heat.
“Let’s just keep holding hands,” Shen Li said.
Most of the group’s attention was on the game, so not many noticed their subtle interaction, but Zhou Zheng, sitting across from them, caught it all.
Just a while ago, the boy who had squatted by the roadside and looked up at him had been polite yet distant, his clear, cold eyes exuding a sense of detachment, like a little prince who didn’t care about the mundane world.
But this same aloof, snow-like person was now quietly melting in front of another boy, turning into a soft cloud, a lingering mist, full of joy amidst their playful banter.
The game quickly began. With so many eyes watching, Jiang Shiyu felt shy and couldn’t bring himself to put the unwrapped lollipop into his mouth. Nearly a minute passed, and the boy sitting next to Zhou Zheng couldn’t help but speak up.
“Hurry up, why haven’t you started yet? Didn’t you two come here holding hands like a couple?”
The boy’s words weren’t meant to be malicious, but combined with the urging, they only made him more anxious. His fingers, held by Shen Li, began to curl slightly, the tips brushing against his palm.
Sensing the movement in his palm, Shen Li softly said, “Don’t be nervous, baby. If you don’t want to play, just say so.” With that, he moved his other hand to remove the blindfold.
But his hand stopped quickly as Jiang Shiyu hastily stuffed the lollipop into his mouth and lunged forward, awkwardly bumping his lips against his. A sharp sting spread from his lips, making Shen Li furrow his brows slightly, but he didn’t move.
Jiang Shiyu’s sudden action left everyone momentarily stunned, and the area quickly erupted into excitement.
The kiss between the two felt like dropping a Mentos into a bottle of soda, instantly causing a strong reaction.
After recovering from the initial surprise, Shen Li slowly wrapped his arm around his waist, shielding him from view. Before putting on the blindfold, he had already scoped out the seating arrangement, so in this position, everyone could only see their heads close together and their bodies leaning into each other, but not the details of their kiss.
He remembered that the guy across from them still harbored feelings for Jiang Shiyu, and he wasn’t about to let him see the intimate details of their kiss or Jiang Shiyu’s expression during it.
The game required them to kiss for ten seconds, after which they had to stop. The first lollipop was rushed, with Jiang Shiyu almost frantically kissing Shen Li while still holding the candy in his mouth, but Shen Li easily guessed the flavor.
For the second lollipop, Jiang Shiyu let it melt in his mouth for a while, filling his mouth with the taste of strawberry before kissing him again. His soft, petal-like lips touched Shen Li’s, sweet with the strawberry flavor, tender and smooth. Shen Li couldn’t resist lightly flicking his tongue against the soft lips, causing him to widen his eyes in shock.
He hadn’t expected him to make such a move, especially with so many people watching.
Confidently, Shen Li guessed the second, third, and fourth flavors correctly.
When they reached the fifth round, someone suggested mixing two flavors together for a harder challenge, and a few people, eager for more drama, agreed.
Soon, someone handed Jiang Shiyu two lollipops, one blueberry and one strawberry. The scents were somewhat similar, with the strawberry flavor being stronger and likely to overpower the weaker blueberry. He thought for a moment, then first took the strawberry lollipop, followed by the blueberry one, before quickly leaning in to kiss him.
A sweet scent filled the air as Shen Li felt something soft and bouncy press against his lips, like a fruity jelly. Having kissed several times already, Jiang Shiyu’s mouth was still faintly tinged with the previous flavors, and now, with the two new ones mixed in, it was harder for him to discern the exact tastes.
Jiang Shiyu grew anxious, increasing the intensity of the kiss. Before, their kisses had been light, mostly relying on Shen Li’s sense of smell. But this last one proved difficult, so Shen Li took control, his cool lips enveloping the soft, tender ones as his tongue boldly and forcefully slipped through Jiang Shiyu’s teeth, savoring the sweetness.
“Mm…”
Jiang Shiyu couldn’t hold back a small whimper under Shen Li’s dominating kiss. Though the sound was quiet, Shen Li heard it, and his strong arm tightened around his slender waist, pressing their bodies together with no space between them. From an outsider’s perspective, Jiang Shiyu was completely on the receiving end, like a swan with its neck held high, submitting to its captor.
His initially wide eyes gradually grew dazed, his gaze softening, his breathing becoming rapid and hot. His heart pounded so fast he could hear it thudding in his ears.
The kiss was so intense that even though they tried to avoid being seen, some people still caught glimpses. A girl sitting nearby, with a slight turn of her head, could see the details of their kiss, and her face flushed bright red.
That tall guy was so fierce, almost as if he was going to devour the boy in his arms.
Unaware of this, Jiang Shiyu only felt like he was running out of air. His tongue and lips were almost numb, but Shen Li still hadn’t stopped, his powerful tongue dominating every inch of his mouth, leaving his soft little tongue helplessly lying in the moist cavity.
It wasn’t until much later that Shen Li finally released him, pressing his head against his neck while removing the blindfold with his other hand. At the same time, his low, raspy voice broke the silence, “Strawberry and blueberry.”
Everyone was still reeling from the intense scene that had just played out, too stunned to react immediately. But Shen Li wasn’t interested in lingering any longer. Holding Jiang Shiyu, he stood up and casually said, “We’re heading out. Have fun, everyone,” before turning and leaving with him in tow.
It took a while for the group to snap out of their daze. They looked at each other, seeing a mix of embarrassment, excitement, shyness, and shock on each other’s faces.
And of course, there was Zhou Zheng, who, hidden among the crowd, was the only one with an expression of disappointment.
