A Un-quirked Detective

Chapter 1: Loose Pearls

It was a rather boring day, and unfortunately a rainy day as well.

A fifteen-year-old Noya Minoru was sitting on the same chair he always sits on when he was thinking or waiting for someone to knock on his door.

Noya knew that he needed to leave, he knew that this place wasn't safe.

But the lack of a stable money source kept him in the same run-down place he was always in.

To his left sat a door which led into where he slept, it was one of the few places in the apartment kept somewhat clean.

To his right was a bulletin board which had pictures and sticky notes stuck to it with red line connecting important pieces of information.

And in front of him was a door, it led outside.

Noya lived on the bottom floor of an apartment, though no one else lived here ever since the other floors were destroyed by a villain.

Suddenly, his phone rang.

"Hello this is Noya's detective services, how can I help you?" he said into the phone.

"This is Momo Yaoyorozu, please come to my mansion," she said in a frantic tone before handing up.

Odd.

The daughter of Yoshiteru Yaoyorozu was calling him to go over to her mansion.

Why? Probably because she wanted someone who did something found.

But why call Noya? He was not popular in the slightest and he advertised his detective office by taping posters everywhere.

When there were so many others who had adds on TV and would work for free just so they could get in the good graces with the Yaoyorozu's, and he was the one called?

It didn't make much sense, but Noya was a detective, and it was his job to figure out the why's and what's.

Anyways, he couldn't really refuse considering his financial situation.

So, he got up, dressed up in his usual attire with his coat and fedora, put on a rain jacket, packed his briefcase, and departed into the rain.

Miss Yaoyorozu may have not given him the address for her mansion, but he knew that he could just search it up and go from there.

So, he said goodbye to George, the Eldrige abomination which absorbs flesh and spreads out said flesh beneath the city and began on his way to the mansion.

Then he heard a splat underneath his foot.

Looking down Noya saw that he had stepped in mud, not the best sign.

While the rain was annoying, he got to the gate of the mansion quickly with the help of his motorcycle.

While it was technically illegal for him to drive it, he knew where all the local policemen sat to catch people.

It was as simple as avoiding them and he was already there.

The gate, taller than his apartment, loomed large above him.

Noticing a button near the left end of the gate Noya hit it. A buzz sound playing as he did.

"Be there in a moment!" A voice called out from the buzzer.

As Noya waited for the gate to open he remembered something he saw on the way here.

A poster about missing monster shoes from a movie production company.

It was part of a full costume for a villain in some new movie.

Why didn't they just hire a person with a mutant quirk to be the villain instead of making a whole suit didn't make sense to Noya.

But at the end of the day, it wasn't really his problem.

The gate opened, and Noya knew that he would get inside before he gets sick.

After making through the garden between the gate and the mansion which Noya would swear was a mile long, Noya made it in.

"Good day," a maid greeted as he walked through the door, "Ms. Yaoyorozu will be here to explain in a moment."

Seeing a coat rack Noya put up his hat and rain jacket while waiting. Luckily, he didn't need to wait for too long.

"Forgive me for the wait," a voice said coming from the hall to Noya's front.

"It's no problem," Noya responded, "Now what have you called me over for," Noya then asked.

"I... I didn't mention that did I?" Yaoyorozu replied, "If you would follow me," she said turning around and walking away.

With some pep in his step Noya followed behind.

"Now about my payment," Noya asked catching up to Yaoyorozu, "My usually rate is."

"You will be paid six thousand two hundred seven yen per hour," Yaoyorozu said back.

(A/N: About forty dollars per hour)

Noya quickly shut his mouth and straightened his back, his normal rate was one thousand five hundred fifty-four yen per hour.

(A/N: About ten dollars per hour)

At the prospect of being able to pay all of his bills and pay his rent to his landlord George, Noya was ready to do whatever this girl wants him to do.

"A few hours ago, a precious necklace was stolen," Yaoyorozu explained, "My parents are out, and they had trusted me to take care of the house."

Noya got the idea, she wanted to sweep this whole thing under the rug, so she didn't disappoint her parents.

That's why she called him, because he was unknown and there weren't any eyes on him unlike the more popular people.

"Has any heroes or other members of staff done anything with the crime scene?" Noya asked.

"No heroes have been called, and the staff have stayed away from the area," Yaoyorozu replied.

Good, Noya wasn't a big fan of heroes.

He was happy when they stopped a big villain, but at almost every investigation he's been to there was a hero trying to do his job.

Then the hero would just contaminate the crime scene making Noya's job harder.

"Were there any witnesses?" Noya asked.

"No," Yaoyorozu replied, "No one was there, and the security cameras were off."

Now Noya had to consider a quirk that messed with technology, though there were other causes.

As they were walking, they encountered a locked door. Yaoyorozu quickly grabbed a keycard and placed it near the door.

With a click the door unlocked revealing a flight of stairs in front of them. They climbed up a single level and got to another locked door where Yaoyorozu pulled out the keycard and unlocked it.

After that with a bit more walking, the two arrived at the scene of the crime.

In the middle of the room was an empty pedestal, most likely what held the pearls.

To his left was a shattered window, a few pieces of wet broken glass still on the floor around it. The rain wasn't helping.

Noya then put down his briefcase and opened it up to take out plastic shoe covers.

"Please stay out here," Noya said slipping on the shoe covers and going into the crime scene.

The first thing Noya did was look out the window to see if any glass or something important was outside.

At first glance he didn't see a thing, but as he scanned for a second time, he noticed a large footprint in the mud bellow.

Noya then considered that it might not be a technology scrambling quirk after all.
