Chapter 8: 8. Fight Back (1)
"Gomu Gomu no Jet Stomp!" Luffy shouted as he launched himself at Jinbe with incredible speed.
Unfortunately for him, his attack was perfectly blocked by the Fishman, who remained composed.
"Is this all you've got after years of your training?" Jinbe taunted, his calm tone designed to provoke. The remark sent Luffy flying backward but didn't dampen his determination.
Both fighters squared off again, their stances ready for another clash. The air between them was tense as their energies collided, preparing to unleash their next strikes.
"Royal, stop them, please," Robin's voice cut through the heated moment, filled with urgency.
In an instant, Royal sprang into action. In the blink of an eye, he intercepted the incoming attacks from both combatants, redirecting their energy away from harm. The maneuver was so fast that it left him almost invisible, appearing as a blur of motion.
Royal's actions naturally shocked Jinbe and Luffy. Neither of them expected the newest member of the Straw Hat Pirates to appear in the middle of the battle.
"What just happened?" Jinbe asked, bewildered as his blow was inexplicably diverted.
"Hey!" Luffy shouted, clearly frustrated that his fight had been interrupted.
Royal reappeared between them, bowing slightly as a gesture of apology. "I'm sorry, Captain. I didn't mean to disrupt your sparring, but Robin asked me to stop you," he explained, his voice come out flat. He realized he had been too preoccupied with his earlier discovery and had momentarily neglected his duty as a member of the Straw Hat crew.
Both Jinbe and Luffy looked at him with a mix of confusion and irritation. Royal exhaled quietly, relieved the situation had been diffused, though he couldn't shake the feeling that Luffy wasn't entirely satisfied.
"Why were you fighting with..." Royal trailed off, waiting for someone else to supply the name of the Fishman Luffy had been battling.
Fortunately, Robin stepped in without missing a beat. "Jinbe," she answered smoothly.
"He was trying to stop me from rescuing Zoro, Usopp, and Brook!" Luffy exclaimed, his tone filled with urgency and determination.
Hearing his captain's explanation, Royal's focus immediately shifted to the three crewmates mentioned. His eyebrows furrowed as he concentrated, his enhanced vision scanning the surrounding area for signs of Zoro, Usopp, and Brook.
After a moment, Royal turned his gaze back to Luffy. "I apologize, Captain. It's my fault for not ensuring their safety earlier. If you allow me, I'll bring the three of them back here. Once they're safe, you can plan your retaliation against..." He paused briefly, using his acute hearing to eavesdrop on the name of the blue Fishman wearing a hat. "Hody Jones," he concluded confidently.
Luffy crossed his arms, his intense gaze fixed on Royal. After a few moments, he nodded. "Alright, but make it quick."
"You can't do that!" Jinbe said, frustrated. "I've already told you, if humans attack Fishmen, the relationship between the two will never improve. I know you don't care about that, Luffy! But the Fishmen aren't just a race—they're my family."
"Jinbe! You're really pissing me off," Luffy said seriously to the Fishman in front of him. His breathing was heavy, but he still tried to remain calm. "Royal, go now," Luffy muttered quietly, without breaking his intense gaze on Jinbe.
Royal placed his hand over his chest and bowed slightly. "Understood, Captain. I won't let you down." Without waiting for further instructions, he turned and prepared to set off at an inhuman speed.
Robin smiled faintly, her curiosity piqued. "Be careful, Royal," she said softly, her sharp mind already pondering the abilities and loyalty of their newest crew member.
"—Wait! What about my father?!" Shirahoshi's voice broke as she cried out, her eyes glistening with tears, filled with hope and desperation.
Royal halted immediately, his gaze shifting to the weeping mermaid princess. He hesitated for a moment, then responded curtly, "Princess Shirahoshi," his tone steady but uncertain, before turning his attention to his captain.
Luffy, catching on to the unspoken question, nodded firmly. "Yeah, save Yowahoshi's father too."
Royal nodded once, acknowledging the order. Without another word, he crouched slightly, then leaped into the air. Rising swiftly to a significant height, he hovered momentarily, scanning the area. With a burst of incredible speed, he shot forward, the sound of displaced air echoing behind him as he streaked across the sky like a comet.
Shirahoshi clutched her hands to her chest, her tears flowing freely. "Thank you..." she whispered softly, her hope renewed as she watched the glowing figure of Royal fade into the distance.
"If you want to stop Royal, you'll have to go through me first, Jinbe!" Luffy declared, carefully watching every body language the Fishman made.
However, instead of rising to the provocation, Jinbe appeared resigned, as if he had already accepted defeat, knowing he could no longer go against Luffy's will.
Luffy grinned, his confidence unwavering. "Now let's get ready for when Royal brings everyone back!"
Before long, Royal returned, descending swiftly but gracefully from the sky. In his arms was King Neptune, looking slightly dazed but unharmed. Dangling awkwardly from Royal's legs were Zoro, Brook, and Usopp, their expressions a mix of relief and annoyance.
"Careful, you big new guy!" Usopp yelped as he struggled to maintain his grip. "You couldn't have found a better way to carry us?"
Brook, ever the gentleman, chuckled despite the discomfort. "Well, at least we're safe. Yohoho! Though I must admit, I feel like a coat hanging on a rack!"
Zoro simply grumbled, his usual stoicism barely hiding his irritation. "Next time, give me a warning. I almost sliced you when you grabbed me."
Royal ignored their complaints, his focus on landing safely. As his feet touched the ground, he gently placed King Neptune down first. "Your Majesty, are you injured?"
The massive king shook his head, his expression grateful. "No, thanks to you. You saved me I owe you a great debt, young man."
Royal gave a small nod, stepping back to allow Zoro, Brook, and Usopp to dismount. "It was my captain's orders. I'm just glad you're safe."
"You owe us millions berry!" Chirped Nami.
"Not the time!" Yelled Chopper and Usopp.
Shirahoshi rushed forward, throwing her arms around her father. "Father! You're safe!" she cried, tears streaming down her face.
Neptune hugged his daughter tightly. "Shirahoshi, my precious child... I'm so relieved you're unharmed."
Luffy crossed his arms, a wide grin on his face. "Good job, Royal! Now everyone's here. Let's figure out how to deal with that Hody guy and his goons!"
Royal nodded, though his expression remained serious. "We need to act quickly, Captain. Hody's forces are regrouping, and the citizens of Fishman Island are still in danger."
As the Straw Hat crew gathered to strategize their next move, the atmosphere was a mix of urgency and calm. Luffy, seemingly unbothered by the chaos, tore into the food from Royal's stash with gusto, sharing it with Nami and Robin.
"This is amazing, Royal! Did you really make this?" Luffy asked through a mouthful of food.
Royal, standing nearby, gave a small nod. "I had some help from the villagers, but yes. I'm glad you like it, Captain."
Nami took a more measured bite, glancing at Robin. "At least someone's staying productive. This food will keep us energized for what's coming."
Meanwhile, Chopper worked diligently on Zoro and Usopp, cleaning and bandaging their wounds. Zoro winced but didn't complain, while Usopp let out exaggerated groans.
"Stop whining, Usopp," Chopper scolded. "You're not even that injured."
"Not injured? I almost died out there!" Usopp shot back, though his dramatic tone made everyone roll their eyes.
As the group began solidifying their plans, the giant den-den mushi scattered across Fish-Man Island crackled to life again. This time, Hody Jones appeared on every screen and projection across the island. His face was flushed with rage, his sharp teeth bared as he shouted with venom.
"Straw Hats! How dare you escape my grasp so easily!" he roared, his red eyes glaring into the camera.
In a shocking display of his fury, Hody began turning on his own men and the captured royal soldiers. With a cruel grin, he executed them one by one, dismissing them as useless or boring. Blood splattered the ground as screams echoed through the broadcast.
The citizens of Fish-Man Island watched in horror, some hiding in their homes, others frozen in fear on the streets.
Back on the Sunny, Shirahoshi gasped, tears welling in her eyes. "Father! He's gone mad!"
Neptune clenched his fists, his face a mix of sorrow and anger. "This cruelty must end. We can't let him destroy everything we've worked to protect."
Luffy, who had been shoving food into his mouth, suddenly stopped. He put down the bowl and stood, his demeanor shifting to one of cold determination.
"He's gone too far," Luffy said, his voice quiet but filled with resolve. "Let's go. We're ending this now."
The crew nodded, their expressions serious as they prepared for the inevitable showdown.
As Shirahoshi mounted the loyal shark Megalo, King Neptune and Jinbe followed closely, heading toward Gyoncorde Plaza. Their mission was to assist the three princes who were bravely holding the line against Hody Jones and his forces. Luffy, ever the wildcard, hid himself inside Megalo's mouth, ready to strike when the moment was right.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Straw Hat crew returned to the Thousand Sunny. They were tasked with preparing the ship for a swift retreat if necessary and ensuring the crew's safety. As the Sunny began its journey toward a strategic position
"You'd better go ahead, I'll catch up," said Royal without explaining his reason.
He refocused his hearing to ensure that what he heard was real and not just a trick of his mind. "Royal, please save my son!." There was no doubt—it was Arthur's voice.
"Fine! I'll see you in the battle field, Royal!" said Captain Luffy before he's gone.
While flying toward Arthur, Royal's mind wandered briefly, recalling what had happened just moments ago.
Royal had discovered something peculiar within the Poneglyph he and Robin had examined. Hidden within the ancient inscriptions was an object—a strange egg-like structure made of an unfamiliar material. It shimmered faintly in the dappled sunlight filtering through the ocean waters, its surface smooth yet marked with some familiar symbols.
As he adjusted the egg under the light, faint words began to glow across its surface. Royal's sharp vision caught the inscriptions immediately:
Loading...
Low Battery.
Charging...
The words shifted rapidly, as though the object were coming to life before his eyes.
Initializing...
1%...
Royal's brow furrowed. What in the world is this thing? He could feel the faint hum of energy emanating from it, and the symbols on its surface glowed brighter with every passing second.
"Is this connected to the Poneglyph's message?" he wondered aloud.
The glowing inscriptions continued to update, slowly but steadily:
2%...
A sense of unease crept over him. Whatever this was, it clearly wasn't natural. The material, the energy—none of it felt like something he should know, and that's what scared him the most.
"Royal?" Robin's voice echoed in his mind, recalling her warning about the dangers of meddling with the unknown. "It is safe?"
"I don't know. I think it's good for now. Still we should remain vigilant."
For now, Royal decided to stop investigating further. Carefully, he concealed the egg-like object back into its hidden compartment within the Poneglyph.
He turned away from the relic, his mind racing with unanswered questions. What connection does this have to me... or to my origins?
"Hm... I still have a question though. Who is Joy Boy?" ask Robin as she seem to remember the contents of the poneglph.
Royal shrugged his shoulder because he don't have a clue either.
Royal landed gracefully beside Arthur, who was battling a Fishman rebel against the kingdom. He swiftly kicked away someone attempting a surprise attack on the big man.
Arthur, his face bruised and battered, looked at Royal, who appeared before him without warning and save him.
"You came," Arthur said, his voice weary but filled with relief.
"Of course," Royal replied firmly. "I made a promise to your family."
Arthur nodded weakly, leaning against a crumbled piece of coral. "Mera's fighting on the front lines," he explained. "But Luca… one of Hody's subordinates captured him and took him away."
Royal's expression hardened at the news. Without wasting a moment, he turned his gaze sharply, scanning his surroundings with intense focus. His ability to process information at an inhuman speed kicked in as he listened to distant sounds and followed the faintest traces of Luca's presence.
"Stay here," Royal said, his tone steely but reassuring. "I'll bring Luca back."
Without waiting for a reply, Royal took off in a blur, leaving Arthur to catch his breath. His determination to keep his promise to the family was now unshakable.
