Chapter 10: 10. Legacy
The atmosphere on Fishman Island was charged with tension. After letting out a victorious shout, the pirate captain suddenly collapsed. Luffy, battered and bleeding, lay unconscious on the ground, his shirt torn and blood staining his torso. Chopper worked frantically, his small hands moving quickly to assess Luffy's condition.
Royal attempted an X-Ray scan on Luffy's body. He even winced at the sight of the deep and severe wounds. Fortunately for the captain, the injuries had narrowly missed his vital organs. The real danger lay in Luffy's severe blood loss.
"His wounds are deep, but the bleeding is the bigger problem!" Chopper shouted, sweat dripping from his fur. "I need blood, and it has to be type F! Does anyone have type F blood?"
The crowd of Fishman and humans looked around anxiously. The silence was deafening as no one stepped forward.
Royal stood apart, his mind racing. What blood type do I even have? He clenched his fists in frustration. He knew he couldn't help, as even a drop of his blood falling into the hands of the greedy would be disastrous. Even so, Royal couldn't help but wonder—if Kryptonian blood mixed with human blood, would one overpower the other like a cancerous invasion?
Jinbe's voice broke through the chaos. "Use mine," he said firmly, stepping forward without hesitation. Royal breathed a sigh of relief.
Chopper turned, his eyes wide with shock. "Jinbe! Are you sure? This is—"
"Yes," Jinbe interrupted. "Take as much blood as he needs."
Royal watched as Jinbe's steady resolve calmed the panic within the crew. A Fishman stepping forward to save a human was a bold decision, and the crowd began to murmur.
The blood transfusion began, and slowly but surely, Luffy's pale complexion started to regain color. His chest rose and fell with steadier breaths.
"Luffy-sama is going to be okay!" Shirahoshi exclaimed, clasping her hands in relief.
The three princes and King Neptune also looked relieved, even though Jinbe was about to commit an act considered taboo among the Fish-Men. As a king, Neptune no longer cared about such matters; in fact, he wished to abolish the taboo entirely, encouraging his people to collaborate freely with humans.
As Luffy's eyes fluttered open, he saw Jinbe lying beside him, his arm bandaged from donating blood.
"Jinbe..." Luffy murmured weakly, a faint smile spreading across his face. "Oh, you're here."
Jinbe chuckled lightly. "You're tougher than you look, Straw Hat."
Luffy struggled to sit up, his voice barely above a whisper. "Hey, Jinbe..."
Jinbe leaned closer to hear him.
"Be my nakama!" Luffy grinned, his eyes sparkling despite his weakened state.
Jinbe froze for a moment, his serious expression softening into something warm but conflicted. "You're as persistent as ever," he muttered under his breath.
But as Luffy drifted back into unconsciousness, Jinbe shook his head with a small smile. "No, not yet, Luffy. Not yet."
Royal couldn't help but smile at the scene. He looked at Jinbe. "You didn't have to say anything, for now. He didn't hear you."
Jinbe gave Royal a sidelong glance and let out a hearty laugh. "Perhaps I didn't want him to stop asking."
The moment solidified a bond between Jinbe and the crew, and as the people of Fishman Island witnessed this act of unity, the hope for peace between humans and fishmen grew stronger.
The traitors to the kingdom, along with the followers of Hody Jones and Van Der Decken, were apprehended to face trial before King Neptune. Meanwhile, Hody, Decken, and their subordinates were immediately thrown into the darkest prison in the kingdom. The Fishmen could only hope that no more rebellions would plague their island after this.
The royal banquet at Ryugu Palace was a spectacle of luxury. Ornate dishes filled with exotic seafood, fresh fruits, and delicacies from the depths of the ocean covered the long dining table. The soft glow of luminescent coral cast a warm, magical light over the grand hall, and melodious songs filled the air.
On the coral, the Straw Hat crew sat and interacted with the Fish-Men, their laughter and conversations blending harmoniously. Anemones and schools of fish swimming gracefully around them added a luxurious and unforgettable touch to the moment for everyone.
But amidst the elegance and refinement, the chaos of the Straw Hat Pirates was impossible to ignore.
"WHOA! Look at that treasure! Is it real?!" Usopp's voice echoed as he pointed at the dazzling decorations.
"Stop embarrassing us!" Nami snapped, though her own eyes gleamed with greed as she admired the golden chandeliers and jeweled ornaments.
Sanji, on the other hand, was utterly captivated, spinning in circles with hearts practically exploding out of his eyes. "Mermaids! Beautiful, breathtaking mermaids! This is heaven!"
Brook joined in with his usual enthusiasm. "May I see your panties, my dear mermaid ladies? Yohohoho!"
The soft tunes of the musicians faltered for a moment at his outrageous request, but the palace staff quickly recovered, pretending not to notice the ruckus.
Meanwhile, Luffy had only one focus: food. His wide grin stretched from ear to ear as his eyes darted from platter to platter. "Meat! Where's the meat?!" he exclaimed, practically drooling.
Amidst all this noise, Royal sat quietly at the far end of the table, a stark contrast to the chaos around him. Next to him was Robin, her posture elegant and composed as she sipped on a finely brewed drink.
"You seem remarkably calm for someone surrounded by this... scene," Royal remarked, nodding toward the lively crew.
Robin chuckled softly. "You get used to it after a while. They're not as unruly as they seem. Each one has their own charm." She glanced at Royal with a knowing smile. "You included."
Royal blinked, caught off guard by the comment, and shifted slightly in his seat. He looked to his other side, wishing he had Zoro there instead. At least the swordsman shared his preference for quiet and wouldn't drag him into the whirlwind of antics or tease him.
Still, Royal couldn't deny that there was something oddly comforting about the chaos. Even in this grand palace, with all its splendor and formality, the Straw Hat Pirates brought an energy that felt alive, real, and full of... joy?
Seeing Robin rise from her seat, Royal let out a low groan, shifting restlessly where he sat.
"What's wrong, Royal? You're acting like a child who doesn't want to be left by their mother," Robin teased, her voice laced with amusement.
Her playful jab earned her a sharp glare from the Kryptonian. His blue eyes, usually calm, narrowed in slight annoyance as he rose from his seat without a word, turning his head away in a deliberate show of dismissal.
With deliberate steps, Royal quietly slipped out of the dining hall, his figure disappearing into the palace corridors.
Robin watched his retreating back, the corners of her lips curling into a soft chuckle. "He really is full of mysteries," she murmured to herself, her thoughts briefly lingering on the peculiar demeanor of the man who was the son of the legendary Dark King Rayleigh.
She could sense there was more to him than the stoic and reserved exterior he often displayed. For now, though, she let him have his space, knowing that, like all enigmas, Royal would reveal his true self in his own time.
Robin then left to ask King Neptune about who Joy Boy was. She plan to understand the story and the person who wrote the letter in poneglph.
Meanwhile, Royal Meanwhile, Royal sneaked around like a spy, searching for an empty room within the kingdom. With so many inhabitants busy attending the celebration, he quickly and easily found the room he was looking for. Hestood alone in an empty room away from any living being and stared at the egg-shaped device in his hand. His heartbeat quickening as he braced himself for the unknown.
"99%..."
The display on the device ticked closer to completion, and Royal's fingers tightened instinctively around it. His mind worked tirelessly, trying to decide what action he should take. Whether awakening the object in his hand was a risk or a blessing, Royal didn't know. His curiosity battled with his sense of caution. Was this an ancient weapon, a dormant machine of destruction or...?
"100%... Complete."
The time to think had run out. Royal held his breath, preparing himself.
The egg began to shift, mechanical sounds filling the empty room as its surface reformed and reshaped. Its transformation was deliberate, almost as if it were deciding on its final appearance. Two luminous eyes emerged, followed by arms and a sleek metallic body. The design was strikingly advanced, resembling the robots Royal had glimpsed in Vegapunk's blueprints.
Then it spoke.
"Hello, Master Kal-El. It is a pleasure to finally meet you."
Royal's breath caught. That name—Kal-El—echoed in his mind, only the Kryptonian race that ever referred to him by that name.
Swallowing hard, Royal found his voice, though his words were hesitant. "What... are you?"
The machine tilted its head, its bright eyes glowing with intelligence. "My name is Kalex.
I am a robotic servants made by Jor-El—the head of the Kriptonian leading scientist. I am composed from a liquid geo, a self-restructuring material designed to adapt to your needs... One of your hormon and heart beat keep increase, Master Kal. If this form makes you uncomfortable, I can change it."
Royal took a cautious step back, his mind racing. This "Kalex" was no ordinary machine. It was Kryptonian technology, far more advanced than anything he had encountered in this world. And apparently, Kalex could scan the bodies of people he saw with such ease.
"How do you know my name?"
"As I mentioned earlier, I am a creation of Master Jor-El. Jor-El is your father, Master Kal. You must have already met him in the form of a hologram programmed into your ship." Seeing Royal nod, Kalex continued the conversation. "Along with Kelor, I assisted in constructing your spaceship. I was there when you are born Master Kal. It is really a miracle that you are the first Kriptonian natural born in the century."
"And what... is your purpose here—in this planet?" Royal asked, his tone guarded.
Kalex paused, as if carefully selecting its words. "My purpose is to serve and protect you, Master Kal-El. I was created long ago, encoded with the knowledge of Kryptonian heritage and designed to aid you in your journey."
"If your purpose is to help me, Kalex, why weren't you in my spacecraft when I arrived here?" Royal gritted his teeth, frustration clear in his voice.
Kalex remained silent for a moment, as if calculating the best way to respond. Then, the voice from the liquid geo entity spoke, almost apologetically.
"I was supposed to be on your spaceship, Master Kal. However, just moments before your spacecraft and Miss Kara launched into space, there was a slight disturbance with Miss Kara's ship. As a result, I had to relocate and stabilize her vessel until Miss Kara reached her destination," Kalex explained, answering Royal's question.
Faintly, Royal heard the footsteps of palace guards approaching the hallway that led to the room where he was. "Change your appearance," Royal ordered, his voice firm. "Be less... conspicuous in case the guard enter this room."
Kalex nodded. Its body shimmered, melting into a smaller, sleeker design that resembled a harmless, floating sphere. The glowing eyes remained, but they now seemed more subdued.
"Is this acceptable, Master?" Kalex asked.
Royal nodded slowly. "For now."
"Kalex, who is Kara?" Royal inquired.
"Your cousin, Master Kal. Miss Kara Zor-El was entrusted by Master Jor-El to protect you in this new world. Unfortunately, Miss Kara's spacecraft was sucked into a black hole, and she arrived hundreds of years before you, approximately 800 Earth years ago." Kalex explained.
"So, Kara Zor-El... she's been here longer than me?" Royal asked, still processing the information.
"Correct, Master Kal," Kalex confirmed. "Miss Kara realized that you would arrive much later, so she decided to divide me into several parts and scatter them across the world. Each part was hidden within a Poneglyph, scattered in various locations."
"So, her goal was to ensure that I could access you when the time came?" Royal asked, wanting to be sure he understood.
"Yes, Master Kal. You don't need to worry about finding all of my pieces, as all the knowledge I possess is encoded within each part of my body."
Royal stared at Kalex in astonishment. It felt unfair that something had divided its body into several parts just to wait for him for 800 years, even to the point where Kalex's battery had completely run out. "But, still. Do you not wish for me to collect part of your body...?"
"I am a robot, Master. That is no big deal for me. Please, do not feel guilty on my behalf."
"... fine," Royal responded with a murmur.
