A Different Smallville

Chapter 13: Chapter 13

The next day, while Clark was looking at a few things that involved the student body and what the class president supposed duties were in the library. He was left scratching his head as it seemed to be more involved then he thought. Not to mention, he basically had to rush to set up a platform and get a set of answers for questions others may ask.

'Don't stress about it. If you are unsure about becoming the class president, why not join the chess team.' Leonardo's voice rang in Clark's head. 'It would be interesting and won't expose your abilities nor take up time in order to help with the Torch.'

'Leo? You're awake already?' Clark sat down with the paper in his hands.

'Of course, it's just sleeping, not hibernation.' Leonardo almost wanted to roll his eyes.

'Could have fooled me.' Clark replied.

'So still running for class president.' Leonardo asked.

'Pete talked me into it and I figured I will give it a shot. You know, get out of my comfort zone.' Clark explained lightly.

Leonardo stayed silent for a moment. 'Is it so much getting yourself out there or the sudden rise in popularity?'

Clark didn't answer as this question hit him hard as he did a brief reflection. He found it more due to Sarah ranting at him for appearing on the ballot due to Pete and the rise in popularity. Which sort of shocked him as he didn't realize he just wanted to go with the flow and become popular, then to actually be the class president.

'Wanting to be popular isn't a bad thing, Clark. However, be careful as one can easily become addicted to it or become a monster.' Leonardo warned. 'Many do crazy and deadly things for a moment of popularity.'

'I think I can see why.' Clark sighed.

'Well, you would have learned soon enough as I don't think Chloe will endorse you in the Torch. She will probably pick the one that actually has been interested in the class president position for a while.' Leonardo replied. 'Besides, I don't think you would make a politician. You are a terrible liar.'

'I haven't lost yet.' Clark said.

Looking at the time, Clark began to pack up as he exited the library to meet up with Chloe. In which he headed in the direction of the school newspaper the Torch. Where he found Chloe at her desk.

"Chloe, any chance you could help us hang some posters? Pete's convinced he puts my name on enough wall space, I'm guaranteed to win." Clark asked the blonde girl before him.

"Besides needing to remain an impartial member of the fourth estate, I'm still working on my bee story." Chloe replied.

"Got anything new?" Clark asked as he tried to peek at the next issue of the Torch.

When he saw the headliner, Clark's heart sank and wanted to throw a tantrum, but Leonardo took semi-control of his body. For like Leonardo said not a few minutes ago were the truth and Chloe endorsed someone else and not her friend. Which bugged him slightly for somehow Leonardo seemed to be able to predict some things despite sleeping often.

Chloe didn't seem to notice Clark's subtle actions. "Just that the swarms didn't migrate from any of the usual places. The beekeepers from all over the state have found their hives empty. It's like the colonies just up and left."

"That's weird. Bees are notorious followers. They wouldn't desert their hive without a good reason." Clark eyebrows narrowed as he said before noticing Chloe's strange look. "My mom's addicted to Discovery Channel."

"Ok, so how goes the platform?" Chloe changed the topic.

Clark put on an awkward smile. "Not very well. I am still sorting through everything thanks to Pete pulling me everywhere."

'Clark, you are too truthful as a politician. You can't say you haven't done much to others, much less a reporter. Even if this reporter is in training. Otherwise, you will lose your support base and have the press running wild with possible scandals.' Leonardo commented with a bit of a laugh.

'Shush, Leo. Being truthful isn't a bad trait.' Clark said.

'Yes, but being too truthful isn't.' Leonardo warned.

Clark only nodded to that statement.

A while later while sitting in the Talon. Clark was focusing on a chessboard attempting to think of his next move. For currently he was in a deadlock against Leonardo with pieces scattered across the board. Neither has yet to have first blood for the first one will have a devastating counter waiting.

"Tough situation." Lana said as she took a seat across from him.

"Tough opponent." Clark replied.

"You're playing against yourself for the last hour." Lana pointed out.

"Like I said. A tough opponent." Leonardo smirked which grew upon seeing her annoyed look.

"Shouldn't you be working on your platform?" Lana asked as she watched the recent customer leave.

The talon was now completely empty besides the two of them. Which seemed bad for business, not to mention Clark's head. For Leonardo really didn't care to be here, but since it is where Clark wants to be, so be it. Hence why they are in a deadlock of this intense chess game.

"Currently taking a break. I have looked over so much in the last day, I will see it in my sleep." Clark joked. "Well, Pete is supposed to come by sooner or later. Something about two for one deal."

Lana shrugged. "I figure that's the last step before I institute topless waitressing."

'Well if topless ladies are on the table. I wouldn't mind coming everyday. Just as long Lana is not one of them, otherwise it would take the fun out of it.' Leonardo cheered. 'Seeing Lana fully clothed can make a good day bad, her half naked would send it to hell.'

"Well, I hope it doesn't come to that." Clark smiled.

Glancing at the time and seeing it should be getting dark soon. Clark began to pack away the board with it memorized so as to set it back up at home.

"Well, I guess Pete is not coming, and it's getting late. So I will be going, Lana." Clark said.

The next day after losing that chess game, Clark found Pete and Chloe in the middle of a cold war. Apparently Pete found out that Chloe endorsed Paul, the guy who was the victim of the first bee attack. Hence a standoff was between them which made Clark sigh.

"So did you guys here, that Felice was attacked." Clark asked.

"Don't talk to her, so she can't misquote you." Pete said.

"I just visited her and she was attacked worse than Paul. She is in a coma." Chloe answered, sending Pete a glare.

"Two attacks, quite the coincidence." Pete said with a sigh.

"I think we moved past coincidence, Pete." Clark said then snapped his finger. "Remember last year, Sasha's accident when she was stung by a whole hive of bees?"

"You think she is controlling them?" Chloe asked.

"It's a theory."

"Yeah, by several leaps and bounds, but I'll look into it. In the meantime, watch your back." Chloe said.

'Indeed, but judging by her recent actions, it supports your theory.' Leonardo added.
