Chapter 489: Hou Qin's Embarrassment
"What?"
Xiaoyun innocently looked back to Hou Qin with a confused face, seemingly not understanding her question.
"Commander, Inventory doesn't just show up randomly. A lot of staff have been questioning where they came from."
Hou Qin's question made him stand still in silence as he thought of a way to cover up, but it was just too hard to hide, considering her role.
"Catch."
As Xiaoyun threw out a pen and a Beretta 92, her face quickly went from shock to calm.
"Thank you, commander." Hou Qin quietly murmured as she looked a little relieved to learn the truth.
"Don't tell anyone else this... And you can keep that pistol as a self-defense."
Watching him walk out of the room, her heart couldn't stop racing as she put both of them on the table.
"The rumors really are true... Is this what it feels to have a gift from someone?"
---
Just as Xiaoyun exited the logistics office, he ran right into someone around the corner.
Unfortunately for the other person, they fell onto the floor and felt almost like running into a brick wall.
With the paper scattered all over the floor, Xiaoyun quickly helped the person back up before gathering the paper.
"Sorry about that... Wait, this Yiming report?"
"Y-Yes, commander, " the staff member nervously said after noticing who he had bumped into.
"I'll give it over to Hou Qin."
Xiaoyun quickly took all of the paper and dismissed the staff before heading back to Hou Qin's office.
"Yiming's report, you can read it first..."
"Hm!"
Within seconds, Xiaoyun quickly put the paper onto the table, turning around to face against the door.
His mind started racing, and he could not believe what Hou Qin was doing in the office with his gift.
"C-Commander, y-you didn't see anything, right?" Hou Qin nervously asked as she stuttered several times.
"Nope. I saw nothing... Can I turn around now?"
"Y-Yes."
Turning back around, Hou Qin's pants were back to her waist, but the strand of clear liquid on the pen told an 'exploration' story.
"I understand everyone has their needs... Let's just get back to work right now."
"Yeah..."
Hou Qin quickly grabbed the paper on the table, taking a read of it as her face turned back to serious.
After she had finished reading it, he finally took a look at it himself.
It was just a status report with lists of supplies requested, from ammos to uniforms to even delivering soldier's mail to their family.
Surprisingly, it also stated that massive loads of supplies were being shipped back to Luoping.
The scale was bigger than Xiaoyun had ever imagined—an entire cargo ship full of canned food untapped in a Dongguan port.
If the food was still fine, Yiming's number was hundreds of thousands of tons, more than enough to feed Luoping for a year.
However, there was a slight hurdle: the logistics of moving so much food would severely delay their operation.
"Hou Qin, what do you think of this report?" Xiaoyun curiously asked.
"Good news. But it's going to be a long fight trying to get all that food down from the ship."
"I'm sure Yiming has a plan for that, or else he would already be asking us for help rather than just sending us a reminder."
As the room fell into silence, Xiaoyun could feel a slight awkwardness as there wasn't much to discuss.
Yiming had done such a great job that there was literally nothing he could say or even write other than praises that he could do after they came back.
"Commander, have you thought of expanding the military again?" Hou Qin suddenly asked.
"Why?"
"I just heard from a lot of staff that there are a lot of unemployed people in Guangdong who can't find a job.
If we get this much food, then it won't be a problem anymore. Not to mention, this food would help greatly to fund it."
After thinking about it, Xiaoyun nodded in agreement. Food is and always will be the literal gold standard of his currency.
The more food he had, the more money he could print without worrying about inflation, allowing him to resolve the unemployment issue.
"I'll talk to Yuqi about it on Monday. No, I'll just tell her about this right now."
As Xiaoyun got up from the office chair and was getting ready to leave, he suddenly turned back around.
"Is there something wrong, sir?" Hou Qin curiously asked after noticing him staring at her face.
"Ahem... I know that kind of stuff is hard to come by. And don't take this the wrong way, but I don't want my head of logistics to hurt herself."
Seeing him clarifying himself as he created a paper bag, she became curious about what was inside.
"Don't open it until I leave... Think of this gift as a friend, no romantic or any of that sort."
The double clarification confused her even more, but Xiaoyun couldn't stay in the room any longer.
"What's inside this?" Hou Qin wondered as she watched him rush out of the room.
After grabbing the paper bag from the table, she quickly took a look inside.
Her face instantly started to blush, realizing why he clarified twice in a row just for this gift.
"No wonder why he didn't want me to take it the wrong way... He's just giving me this as a friend and nothing else, right?"
Hou Qin murmured to herself as she quickly closed the paper bag, her heart still racing as she couldn't believe the gift.
"Is what they call sexual harassment in the workplace? But I was the one who tried to use the pen like an idiot."
Quickly shaking her head, she kicked all of her weird thoughts out as she grabbed the original copy of Yiming's report and went back to work.
---
As Xiaoyun exited the logistics office and began walking back home, his mind was starting to regret giving that gift.
"What am I thinking? Am I brain-damaged? What kind of boss give that kind of stuff to their workers?"
After knocking on his head several times, he gave up trying to think of a solution.
All he could do now was hope that Hou Qin didn't take it the wrong way, as he in no way was looking for a relationship.
He's already satisfied with nine wives, not to mention his wives already forcing him to be set up with Lily sooner or later.
"I mean, no sane person would take that kind of gift as a proposal or romantic gift, right?"
As he convinced himself inside his head, he had finally arrived back home before six o'clock.
"Welcome back! What was the emergency?" Nami curiously asked as she opened the door for him.
"Just battlefield reports from Lingang and Yiming... Anyway, is dinner cooked yet? I'm getting kind of hungry."
"Mom just started cooking. It's probably going to be in about an hour."
"That's fine. Where is everyone?" Xiaoyun asked after noticing everyone seemed to be missing in the living room.
"They are in the backyard. It's a lot cooler outside with the wind." Nami explained.
"Then why are you in the living room?"
"Because I don't like walking. You got a problem——"
Before Nami could finish talking, Xiaoyun quickly lifted to give her a piggyback ride.

"Time to bring the princess to the backyard," Xiaoyun said out loud as he started walking towards the kitchen.
"Idiot..."
Xiaoyun heard Nami's whisper, but he didn't answer back as he continued walking forward.
"Hey Xiaoyun, can you get some spring onion from the backyard?" Leyan asked after noticing the two walking past.
"Sure."
After sliding the glass door aside, the cold afternoon wind immediately made the May heat disappear completely.
"Put me down already."
"Too bad... You and Yuqi really act so similar sometimes." Xiaoyun murmured as he suddenly had a flashback.
"Do you really have to mention another woman when you're with me?" Nami angrily knocked onto his head.
"Ouch——My bad. I didn't think you would be sour over your older sister."
"Hmph!"
As Xiaoyun continued walking along the stone-paved road, he finally saw his wives all sitting underneath the gazebo with the babies in their arms.
He gently puts Nami down into one of the chairs as Anna quickly handed Xuanhua over to her.
"How's your work?" Yuqi curiously asked right away.
"All good news... You're going to have fun the next Monday." Xiaoyun answered as he decided to delay the news.
"Really? What kind of good news could make her have fun?" Yueyue curiously asked.
"Works that you would hate to do... Actually, you're probably going to have some work, too."
"That sounds exciting!"
"Enough talking about work. It's the weekend." Wuli interrupted, ending it before the two of them could ask.
Just as Xiaoyun was about to sit and relax in one of the seats, Kate suddenly jumped onto his lap.
"Xiaoyun, Xiaoyun! Guess what?" Kate excitedly asked.
"What?"
"Anna, you aren't going to tell him? Or do you want me to tell it?" Kate asked, looking over to Anna.
"You can say it..." Anna shyly replied.
