Chapter 9:
Chapter 9:
Looking at the potatoes and vegetables, Jiang Jiandang walked to the meat stall, biting his lip as he bought a small piece of meat.
His heart ached. 10 yuan for such a small amount of meat!
He only had 100 yuan left for the month.
Never had he been this tight on money.
Should he just skip the meat?
While he was lost in thought, his phone rang.
The name He Minglang appeared on the screen.
Jiang Jiandang’s tense expression softened immediately.
“Hello?”
“Uncle Chen, are you busy today?” He Minglang’s voice sounded hesitant. “If you’re too busy, I can just have instant noodles. I feel bad for troubling you so much.”
Instant noodles?
Hearing that, Jiang Jiandang frowned, “How could that be okay? Instant noodles are not nutritious. Just wait for me, I’ll bring you something proper!”
He had already invested so much into He Minglang; how could he give up now?
This was the principle of sunk cost.
In the past, he didn’t pay much attention to his own son, Jiang Feng. Song Lin did most of the caring. But with He Minglang, things were different.
He Minglang had real money behind him!
How could this compare to the things he spent on Jiang Feng?
Quickly, Jiang Jiandang bought some potatoes, eggplant, vegetables, and a chicken with the rest of his money.
Half an hour later.
Jiang Feng couldn’t help but smirk as he watched his father, busy for so long, carefully preparing a meal with meat and two side dishes.
It was touching, really.
If he guessed correctly, Jiang Jiandang had only one or two hundred yuan left.
It would be hard for him to make it until his next paycheck, yet he still bought a chicken for his ‘good son.’
As Jiang Jiandang rushed out the door with the food, Jiang Feng stepped out of his room, his expression confused.
He stood in the doorway, watching his father hurrying off to the hospital with the lunchbox. He couldn’t help but feel sorry for the original Jiang Feng.
The original Jiang Feng had a bright future, one that was ruined because of He Minglang.
But now, things were different.
Jiang Feng was here. He would never let that tragedy repeat itself.
After packing his things, Jiang Feng gathered all his money, bank cards, and clothes, and left.
He had stayed here these past few days just to finish off Jiang Jiandang’s last bit of savings.
Now that he knew his father was broke, he had no reason to stay.
He wanted to see how Jiang Jiandang would continue supporting He Minglang without help from Song Lin or the original Jiang Feng.
…
At the hospital.
“What’s this?” He Mingxue craned her neck to see the dry potato chips and vegetables in the lunchbox, her face falling. “Uncle Jiang, why are there so few dishes today? My brother is still sick, and this is all? How is this enough?”
Though she had grown up in an orphanage, thanks to He Minglang and Jiang Jiandang’s care, He Mingxue had always been a bit spoiled.
“…?”
Jiang Jiandang’s face darkened.
After all, he had used his own money this time.
And he had spent nearly every yuan to buy these vegetables.
Yet He Mingxue was still being picky?
But since he cared about her deeply, he didn’t say anything despite his discomfort.
“Mingxue!”
He Minglang’s face changed, and he glared at her, “What are you saying? Apologize to Uncle Jiang!”
