Chapter 229 Symbol of Power
Upon hearing her husband's words, Li Cuifang thought about it and realized he wasn't wrong.
Survivors like them only had one life left.
Nothing else.
But she still felt uneasy, until Liang Wenjie repeated everything that had happened today. When she heard how some people were killed right in the alley, she was so surprised that she became speechless.
"They actually dared to fire guns?"
"In the district?"
Li Cuifang's eyes widened as she looked at her husband.
Even their daughter, nestled between them, lifted her head upon hearing the word "gun," gazing curiously at her parents.
"Yes."
Liang Wenjie glanced at his wife, his eyes conveying a touch of consolation. He hugged his wife and daughter tighter, lying together on the mattress they had picked up from the market.
Even for someone who had experienced it firsthand, the memory of that scene still caused emotional fluctuations.
This was the first time he had witnessed someone kill another person up close.
Using a gun to blow the enemy's head open.
Just the thought of the blood spurting out and the white fluid flowing from the wound was enough to make one shudder, making the heart pound uncontrollably.
He shifted his body backward, leaning against the wooden wall behind him, and continued:
"I was scared out of my wits at the time."
"I thought he just took out the gun to intimidate the other side because everyone who comes in knows the rules."
"But who could have imagined Peng Liu would shoot and wound someone without saying a second word!"
"That person knelt on the ground right away!"
"The blood was just flowing..."
At first, Li Cuifang was looking at her husband's face, but gradually she laid on his chest, listening to the increasingly rapid thumping in her ears until she was soaked with sweat.
She knew exactly what kind of person her husband was; he couldn't even bear to watch when criminals were publicly executed in the district.
Even theft was a rarity for him.
And to have him witness someone being killed?
Liang Wenjie would probably have collapsed to the ground, legs giving out, right away.
But now, his reaction was somewhat abnormal; though he was still afraid, there was an inexplicable excitement in his eyes, and even a hint of longing.
His voice kept going on.
"You know what, wife?"
"Among those who wanted to rob me, there were a few people we actually know."
Li Cuifang instinctively lifted her head to look at her husband when she heard this and saw a sneer in Liang Wenjie's eyes, "They were wearing helmets, but as soon as they spoke, I recognized their voices."
"Li Yuanhao."
"Remember him?"
"Li Yuanhao?"
A look of surprise flashed across Li Cuifang's face, "It couldn't be..."
Liang Wenjie chuckled and immediately nodded, confirming his wife's guess, "Yes, it's them. That's why I was really panicked at the time. After all, a ruffian like him is not someone we can afford to provoke."
He lifted his head, looking at the ceiling not even two meters high.
His eyes slightly narrowed as he fell back into the memory of today's experience:
"But he's dead."
"First, Peng Liu broke his leg." Enjoy new stories from My Virtual Library Empire
"Then shot him in the head, clean and neat. I hadn't even reacted, and those two had already finished him off."
Li Cuifang, unsettled upon hearing the name Li Yuanhao, immediately caught onto another new name.
"Peng Liu?"
"It sounds vaguely familiar...."
Just as she was about to give some thought to where she had heard this name before, her mind swiftly recalled a rumor she had heard from others not long ago.
Head east from the bridge and, near the outskirts, there is a settlement.
It was said to have originally been a long-distance truck team.
The leader's surname was Peng.
Latter, the group clashed with another settlement established in the Ecological Park Restaurant, and within less than a half-month, they had wiped out the original forces of the Ecological Park.
Now, the two settlements have merged into one and are aggressively expanding their power.
They are clearly aiming to establish the second Wanhao District.
The woman, thinking of this, subconsciously asked, "Surname Peng, could it be those brothers who have come over?"
Liang Wenjie laughed with a 'heh heh', confirming his wife's answer.
"Yes, it's them."
"The person who sent me back is the sixth of the Peng family brothers, that Peng Liu brother who is rumored to be ruthless and fierce."
Li Cuifang's mouth fell open, but she didn't speak for a long time, her eyes looking at her husband filled with an incredulous expression.
After a while, she suddenly thought of something and asked hurriedly:
"If Peng Liu is here, then their eldest brother..."
The woman's tone was light, as if she was guessing something, but Liang Wenjie shook his head and said, "I tried to probe on the way here, but Peng Liu is cautious and didn't tell me directly."
As he spoke, he suddenly lowered his voice and moved closer to his wife's ear:
"I think they must all be here."
"There were several men in the room at the time, and from what I could gather, they all held higher status than Peng Liu, or the ones guarding outside would have been someone else."
"And there's something strange..."
At this, the woman also became curious and looked at her husband, asking, "What is it? What's the strange thing?"
Liang Wenjie didn't say anything but narrowed his eyes, recalling the scene he had witnessed that day.
There was clearly only one sofa set in the room.
Yet the person sitting on it was a young man who looked to be only in his twenties.
But Peng Liu, who had escorted him home, was at least in his thirties judging by his appearance, and Peng Yue, his elder brother, must be at least in his forties.
So who was the man sitting on the sofa?
Peng Yue's son?
Impossible.
Given the situation in the room at the time, that young man clearly held a higher status, which was why he alone sat on the sofa.
And from the tone of his commands to Peng Liu, it was obviously that of a superior to a subordinate.
He wasn't Peng Yue, yet he could command Peng Liu.
There was also a beautiful female bodyguard.
Who was he?
And what was his status?
Could it be that behind the powerful Peng family brothers in Jiangbei, there was actually another force in control?
And was this young man a member of that unknown force?
The more Liang Wenjie thought about it, the more alarmed he felt.
He felt as if he had suddenly seen a towering tree, its robust roots beckoning to him: "Come hug me, why don't you quickly come and hug such sturdy thighs?"
The scenes of Peng Liu and that lean man committing murder once again flashed before his eyes.
Bullets flew like the scythe of the Grim Reaper.
Any enemy who dared to stand in their way would be instantly shredded, turned into broken and cold corpses.
Those who in his eyes seemed almost devilish were so easily defeated.
The sound of gunfire would make them cry for their fathers and mothers, begging on their knees for mercy.
This was the deterrence of violence.
"No."
"It's not violence."
"This is a symbol of power."
