You Choose an Adopted Son, I Choose Madness

Chapter 24

Chapter 24: Compensation of 4.8 Million:

Hearing Dr. Li’s urgent shout, Su Zhenxing rushed over, nearly stumbling in his haste. His gaze fell on Su Chen, who lay on the floor, his face and clothes covered in blood. Panic surged through him—what if his son died right here, right now?

Although Su Chen’s talent was mediocre and he wasn’t expected to bring much value to the Su family, he was still his son, carrying the Su family’s bloodline.

“Dr. Li, is there still hope? Can he be saved?” Su Zhenxing’s voice trembled with urgency.

Dr. Li had indeed agreed to exaggerate Su Chen’s injuries, but he had not agreed to lie outright to Su Zhenxing. After all, twenty thousand was a nice sum, but a steady income from the Su family was far more valuable.

He understood where his true interests lay.

Seeing Su Zhenxing’s anxious expression, Dr. Li quickly pulled him aside to a quiet corner.

Su Chen, watching from the floor, smirked inwardly. He had expected this—Dr. Li wouldn’t dare deceive Su Zhenxing.

But that didn’t matter.

Su Chen knew that his father wouldn’t expose him. After all, if he had been attacked, it meant Su Zhenxing’s reputation had also been trampled on.

As expected, when Dr. Li led him away, Su Zhenxing assumed the worst—that his son’s condition was critical. Why else would the doctor pull him aside to talk privately?

But what came next left him stunned.

“Mr. Su, don’t worry,” Dr. Li said in a hushed tone. “Su Chen is perfectly fine.”

Silence.

For a moment, Su Zhenxing’s mind went blank.

“How is that possible?!” he blurted. “He’s covered in blood! And didn’t you say he suffered internal bleeding?”

“That’s what I wanted to explain,” Dr. Li said, his voice laced with awkwardness. “It’s not blood. It’s… tomato juice.”

“What?”

Dr. Li sighed and gave a full account of his deal with Su Chen, emphasizing that Su Chen had not actually been injured.

The moment the truth registered, rage flared in Su Zhenxing’s eyes.

Su Chen was playing him?!

He had wasted time and energy, thinking his son was on the verge of death, only to find out this was all a sham?!

Seething, he stormed back to where Su Chen lay.

Looking at the tomato-streaked mess that was his son, his anger only intensified. He lowered his voice to a harsh whisper.

“You ungrateful brat!” he growled. “What the hell are you trying to pull?!”

Su Chen, unfazed, stared him down and hissed back.

“So what if I’m fine?! They still beat me, didn’t they?”

“They didn’t just hit me. They humiliated me!”

“I have every right to make them pay!”

“If you think I’m in the wrong, then go ahead! Expose me!”

“Go on, I dare you!”

“Let’s see how you handle the embarrassment!”

His voice was low but sharp, each word slicing through the tension like a blade.

For a moment, Su Zhenxing trembled with fury.

But then, he paused.

Su Chen… had a point.

The boys had insulted and attacked him. Even if the injuries were fake, the act itself wasn’t.

And if he exposed Su Chen now, wouldn’t that mean admitting his own son had been lying in front of all these people?

That would be a stain on his reputation, not just Su Chen’s.

Taking a deep breath, he forced himself to calm down.

No. He wouldn’t expose Su Chen. But he also wouldn’t lift a finger to help him anymore.

If he had known earlier that Su Chen was unscathed, he wouldn’t have wasted his time with such childish nonsense. Kids fought all the time. Why should he care?

Meanwhile, outside, the four fathers finally couldn’t bring themselves to keep hitting their sons.

They had beaten them until they could barely stand. That had to be enough, right?

Reluctantly, they let go of their battered children and walked into the mansion.

Their eyes darted nervously between Su Zhenxing and Su Chen, trying to gauge the situation.

Seeing Su Chen still lying on the ground, drenched in “blood,” they felt their resolve strengthen.

Their sons had been beaten far worse. That had to count for something.

Forcing smiles, they bowed their heads in apology.

“Mr. Su, we sincerely apologize,” one of them said, his voice filled with forced humility. “It was our failure as parents. We should have disciplined them better.”

Then, turning to Su Chen, they put on expressions of deep regret.

“Su Chen, we are truly sorry! It was our fault for raising such unruly boys!”

“We’ve already punished them severely. Please, as the bigger person, forgive them!”

To sweeten the deal, each man pulled out a bank card and held them out toward Su Chen.

“Each of these cards has 200,000 yuan as a token of our apology. Please accept them.”

Su Chen didn’t move.

Only 200,000?

How insulting.

Without acknowledging the four men, he continued rolling on the floor, moaning dramatically.

“IT HURTS! IT HURTS SO MUCH!”

“JUST LET ME DIE! I CAN’T GO ON LIKE THIS!”

“THE PAIN IS UNBEARABLE!”

Watching this absurd performance, Su Zhenxing pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration.

He knew Su Chen was faking, but the four men didn’t.

To them, Su Chen’s wails of agony meant only one thing—200,000 yuan was nowhere near enough.

They exchanged glances.

Then, gritting their teeth, they each pulled out another card.

“Perhaps we were too hasty,” one of them chuckled nervously.

“Each of these cards contains one million yuan. Think of it as… medical compensation.”

“After all, it was our sons who caused your injuries. We can’t let you suffer without proper care, can we?”

Su Chen had initially planned to drag this out longer, but…

4.8 million yuan was too good to refuse.

Money was money.

He decided to be generous.

The show could end here.

Slowly, he stopped rolling and fell silent.

Then, with blinding speed, he snatched all eight cards, shoving them into his pocket before anyone could blink.

Finally, he let out a weak sigh and spoke in a feeble voice.

“You gentlemen… are too kind.”

“This was just… a little misunderstanding among kids.”

“It wasn’t even that serious.”

“And yet, you insist on being so thoughtful.”

“I feel guilty accepting all this.”

“So, really… don’t let this bother you.”

Across the room, Su Zhenxing watched, his expression blank.

Inside, however, his entire body twitched.

This brat wasn’t even pretending to be modest anymore!
