Chapter 288: Take a Walk!
The three of them looked up in unison and saw a black shadow streaking out from the crack, emitting a sharp screech.
Liu Chaoyan was on high alert, and upon seeing this, she waved her hand, sending a powerful Wind Blade smashing through the air. The shadow let out a mournful howl as it dropped slightly, then steadied its form.
Now Shen Mochen could finally make out its appearance; this was also the first time Shen Mochen had seen a flying monster. The A-rank monster he had encountered before, similar to a beetle, could fly too, but it was difficult to classify that creature as a typical monster.
This flying monster resembled a red giant bird, but its body was over three meters long, with a wingspan of nearly ten meters!
Cai Yuncui could also transform into a giant bird, but without the amplification from Shen Mochen, she could not achieve such enormity at the moment.
The monster bird flapped its powerful wings, standing off against Liu Chaoyan in silence. With each flap of its wings, it stirred up a strong breeze.
Such beautiful wings, Shen Mochen thought, gazing up at those strong wings—they were incredibly beautiful… as if they could carry it soaring straight to the Nine Heavens!
Xia Qingrou quietly raised her bow and drew the string, slowly accumulating power. Shen Mochen glanced at Han Muxue, who was staring blankly at the monster bird, her eyes deep and dark.
Another Wind Blade struck the monster bird, causing it pain, and finally, it fled the battle with Liu Chaoyan.
Xia Qingrou immediately released her arrow upon seeing this; however, the monster bird dodged it. Yet, this arrow enraged the creature, and it dived towards Xia Qingrou with a screeching roar.
"Be careful," Liu Chaoyan advised, not giving chase, as she wasn't as agile as a bird in the air—she only reminded Xia Qingrou via the walkie-talkie.
But she needn't have bothered; even the massive-winged monster bird could not resist the heavy gravity.
The creature suddenly fell from the sky like a kite with its string cut, abruptly plunging to the ground. With a loud "boom," it crashed down, kicking up a cloud of dust.
"Hahahaha…" Seeing the wretched state of the monster, Han Muxue finally burst into loud laughter.
She bent over with laughter, tears streaming down her face.
The monster bird hadn't died from the fall from over a hundred meters in the air, but under Han Muxue's amplified gravity, it couldn't fly again.
It whined pitifully, its voice growing feeble as its striking fiery red feathers became muddied. It struggled to rise but could only wriggle on the ground like a maggot.
"Hahaha… how pathetic, do you still think you can stand up?" Han Muxue reveled in the monster bird's futile struggles, laughing unabashedly as if she were watching a comical play, a vindictive smile curling at her lips.
The monster bird continued to struggle, but all its efforts were in vain. Its wings were so beautiful, so gracefully strong; it seemed they could take it to the Nine Heavens in an instant!
But now, those wings hung limply, stuck in the mire, unable to move an inch.
Han Muxue watched it, and suddenly her brow relaxed, her superpower retracted in an instant.
The monster bird, feeling the pressure lifted from its body, tried to flap its wings the next moment. However, Han Muxue's lips twisted into a cruel smile. She grabbed the armrests of her wheelchair fiercely and cursed, "Filthy thing, you really think you can stand up again!"
Under fifty times the normal gravity, the monster bird once again lay prostrate before Han Muxue. It seemed to sense Han Muxue's mockery and taunting, raising its head defiantly and screeching at her.
But no matter how it struggled in the mud, it was pitifully futile. It could not rise, while its nemesis laughed in the sunlight; it remained in the dust, unable to move even half a step!
"Stand up, stand up, you useless thing!" Han Muxue mocked mercilessly, grinding her teeth.
Shen Mochen glanced at Xia Qingrou, who was concentrating on charging her shot, intent on killing the monster bird with one arrow, paying no attention to anything else.
So, he cast his eyes downward and said nothing.
Xia Qingrou finally completed her draw, released the arrow, and the monster bird fell dead instantly.
Han Muxue stared at its corpse, baring her teeth, her body shaking slightly.
Soon, the other monsters were also eliminated one after another. This was the norm for Buque life; in most cases, Buquers were overwhelmingly powerful against the monsters emerging from the rift.
In the afternoon, the golden sunlight slanted across the land, and everyone watched as the rift gradually closed before they felt at ease to leave.
Xiao Xingshuang left first on his bike as usual, while Liu Chaoyan approached the remaining three and smiled slightly, "Did anyone get hurt? If no one's injured, then let's head back."
True to form as the team leader, seeing Xia Qingrou's disheveled outfit, he remained unfazed as if nothing had happened.
"Um... Yanyan..." Xia Qingrou quietly clung to Shen Mochen's arm, smiling ingratiatingly, "You and Xuexue go back first, my husband and I will take a walk before we return!"
Hey, hey, what kind of excuse is that? Who would believe it!
Liu Chaoyan said, "But we only brought one car."
Xia Qingrou hurried her words, somewhat eagerly, "It's okay, it's okay, we can walk back. It's not far anyway!"
"Alright then, if that's the case, just be careful," Liu Chaoyan said, nodding and reminding them not to leave their walkie-talkie behind.
Shen Mochen thought she must have realized something but chose not to call them out, making things easier for them.
"Xuexue, let's go back then," Liu Chaoyan said with a smile, gently pushing Han Muxue's wheelchair.
Han Muxue returned to her silent demeanor and headed towards the pickup truck without a word.
Shen Mochen sensed something off in her emotions, but unfortunately, Xia Qingrou was currently fixated on other things and didn't notice anything amiss.
When the pickup had completely disappeared from their view, Xia Qingrou's gaze slowly turned towards Shen Mochen.
Shen Mochen clutched his chest. "Hey, what are you planning to do? Don't tell me you want to do that here?"
Not to mention in the open, the corpses of those monsters were still lying here, blood everywhere!
"How could that be? Follow me!"
Xia Qingrou pulled Shen Mochen along, and as he followed her, he picked up one of the bird monster's feathers.
The feather was beautiful, as red as a blaze.
"Actually, collecting this isn't very useful. Monster hides and bodies decompose and rot away quickly, disappearing in a few days," Xia Qingrou remarked.
"But it looks pretty," Shen Mochen said, tucking the feather into his pocket.
Xia Qingrou didn't mind and hurriedly pulled Shen Mochen along for about ten minutes until they arrived at a small grove.
In fact, the area was full of groves, but this spot was exceptionally scenic.
Dense greenery shaded the area, and the sunlight filtered through the trees, cutting into fine fragments.
A gentle stream flowed out of a distant hill, perfectly passing through the grove, its water softly gliding over the stones on the ground with a deep and pleasant sound.
Beside the stream, there was a naturally flat boulder about two meters in length and width, with some moss on its surface.
