YGGDRASIL GM

Chapter 5: Escorting Mission

After leaving the guild, Kaeltharion decided to wander the city, hoping to find something interesting to do. He strolled through the cobblestone streets, taking in the sights and sounds of E-Rantel. The city was alive with activity—merchants shouting their wares, children playing in the alleys, and townsfolk going about their daily lives. But as he walked, Kaeltharion couldn't shake the feeling of boredom creeping in.

"Man, this world is so boring without technology," he muttered to himself, his yellow eyes scanning the medieval surroundings. "Sure, magic can lower the boredom a bit, but it's not the same. I need a PC or something."

As if on cue, he called out, "System?"

The system's voice echoed in his mind, calm and mechanical. [Yes, Host?]

Kaeltharion smirked. "Can you create a high-end PC with an internet connection?"

The system paused for a moment before responding. [Yes, it is possible to create a high-end PC with a connection to—]

Kaeltharion interrupted, waving a hand dismissively. "No, no, no. I don't need all that. Just make sure The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is installed on it, with all its DLCs. I need to immerse myself in Geralt's world. If I'm going to act like my current form, I might as well understand the character of Geralt more. Well… I don't really need to, but I've got all the time in the world, so why not?"

The system's tone was almost questioning. [Host, if the goal is to understand how Geralt would act in every situation, I can provide a complete understanding of his behavior and decision-making processes. There is no need to play the game.]

Kaeltharion chuckled, shaking his head. "Yeah, but where's the fun in that? Besides, what else am I supposed to do? Go to some noble's house and teach his brat how to ride a horse? Or maybe teach a bunch of commoners how to swing a sword? That's not exactly thrilling, is it? I've got all the time in the world, and there's no action happening right now. Might as well enjoy myself."

The system processed his request for a moment before responding. [Understood. A high-end PC that is powered with mana with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered and all its DLCs will be created in your room. Would you like any additional features, such as a gaming chair or surround sound system?]

Kaeltharion's smirk widened. "Now you're talking. Yeah, throw in a gaming chair and a surround sound system. Might as well go all out."

With that settled, Kaeltharion continued his stroll through the city, his boredom momentarily alleviated by the thought of diving into Geralt's world. As he walked, he couldn't help but notice the stark contrast between the bustling city and the quiet, almost serene moments he had experienced in his previous life. This world was different, but it had its own charm—even if it lacked the conveniences of modern technology.

Eventually, he made his way back to the inn, eager to see what the system had prepared for him. As he entered his room, he was greeted by the sight of a sleek, high-end PC setup complete with a curved monitor, a comfortable gaming chair, and a surround sound system. The system had even added a few decorative touches, like a Witcher-themed wallpaper and a small figurine of Geralt on the desk.

Kaeltharion sat down in the chair, his fingers brushing over the keyboard. "Now this is more like it," he said, his yellow eyes gleaming with excitement. He booted up the game, the familiar logo of The Witcher 3 appearing on the screen. As the opening cinematic played, he leaned back, a satisfied smile on his face.

For now, the world outside could wait. Kaeltharion had a different kind of adventure to embark on. Tonight, he was just a gamer.

.................................................................

After one and a half days of non-stop gaming, Kaeltharion finally finished The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, including all its DLCs. He stretched his arms, feeling the satisfying crack of his joints, and leaned back in his gaming chair. "Man, what a ride," he muttered to himself, a satisfied grin on his face. He then called out, "System, get me a cup of hot chocolate."

A moment later, a steaming cup of rich, creamy hot chocolate materialized on the desk beside him. Kaeltharion picked it up, savoring the warmth as he took a sip. As he drank, his mind wandered to the world outside his room. "Hopefully, there are some actual quests waiting for me out there," he thought. "I can't just sit around playing games forever—well, I could, But for now my focus is on adventuring."

After finishing the cup, he headed downstairs to the bartender to extend his stay at the inn. The bartender nodded and updated his records without question. Kaeltharion then made his way to the Adventurers Guild, his golden badge gleaming on his chest.

As he entered the guild, his sharp eyes immediately noticed a boy standing at the counter. The boy looked like he had stepped straight out of a hentai protagonist's role—messy hair that covered his eyes, a slightly awkward posture, and an air of nervous energy. The receptionist, noticing Kaeltharion, gestured toward the boy and said, "There he is."

The boy turned, his hair shifting slightly as he looked at Kaeltharion with interest. The receptionist continued, "This is Nfirea Bareare, a pharmacist. He's requested you specifically for a special quest."

Kaeltharion raised an eyebrow, his yellow eyes narrowing slightly. "Why me?" he asked, his tone calm but curious. "There are plenty of other adventurers here."

Nfirea fidgeted slightly before answering, his voice soft but steady. "You're the only one who returned unscathed from that goblin and ogre settlement. The other three platinum-ranked adventurers who took on similar quests… they didn't make it back. And, well…" He hesitated, then added, "Your appearance is… intimidating. It's also cheaper to hire one adventurer than a whole team."

Kaeltharion smirked, crossing his arms. "So the rumors spread quickly, huh? Nice." He tilted his head, "Smart choice, kid. So, where do you need to be escorted, and for how much?"

Nfirea straightened up, his nervousness fading slightly. "Carne Village, east of the kingdom. I'll pay you 30 silvers for the escort."

Kaeltharion nodded, though he couldn't care less about the money. Still, he had to maintain appearances. "Fair enough. Let's get moving."

The two of them left the guild, Nfirea leading the way to a small, one-seat carriage hitched to a single horse. The boy climbed into the driver's seat, taking the reins, while Kaeltharion followed on foot, his long strides easily keeping pace with the slow-moving carriage.

As they made their way out of the kingdom and into the open countryside, Kaeltharion's mind wandered. Carne Village… Why do I have to visit this place again?

Nfirea, seemingly unable to contain his curiosity, began asking Kaeltharion questions. "So, where are you from? And why do your eyes look like a cat's? They're… kind of mesmerizing, but also a little scary."

Kaeltharion smirked, his yellow eyes glinting in the sunlight. "I'm from a small village north of the Baharuth Empire. Decided to become an adventurer to make some quick money. As for the eyes… let's just say it's a family trait."

Nfirea nodded, though he still looked a bit puzzled. Kaeltharion wanting to shift the attention to another topic "What about you? Why are you heading to Carne Village? Unless it's something private, of course."

Nfirea's face flushed slightly as he answered. "I need to deliver some medicines and collect herbs from the forest there. Also…" He hesitated, his voice dropping to a mumble. "I have a friend I want to visit."

Kaeltharion raised an eyebrow. "A friend, huh? Let me guess—a girl?"

Nfirea's face turned bright red, and he stammered, "Y-yes… her name's Enri. She lives in the village."

Kaeltharion chuckled. "Well, good for you."

After a while, they came across a serene lake, its surface shimmering in the sunlight. Nfirea suggested, "Should we take a rest here? It's a nice spot."

Kaeltharion shook his head. "I'm nowhere near tired. If you want to keep going, it'd be better to push on."

Nfirea nodded, and they continued their journey. However, as they passed the lake, Kaeltharion suddenly stopped, his sharp senses picking up on something. His yellow eyes narrowed as he scanned the surroundings. "Nfirea, stop the carriage," he said, his voice calm but commanding.

Nfirea immediately pulled on the reins, bringing the carriage to a halt. "What's wrong?" he asked, his voice tinged with worry.

Kaeltharion's expression was serious as he replied, "Goblins and ogres. They're approaching. Must be stragglers from the settlement I cleared out. Unlucky for them, they're running straight into me."

He turned to Nfirea, his tone firm. "Stay here. Don't move." With a wave of his hand, Kaeltharion conjured a shimmering purple barrier around Nfirea and the carriage. "This shield will protect you from arrows. Don't step out of it, no matter what."

Nfirea nodded, his eyes wide with a mix of fear and awe. Kaeltharion turned back to the approaching threat, his yellow eyes glowing with intensity. The ground trembled as a group of ogres and goblins emerged from the trees, their crude weapons raised and their eyes filled with malice.

Kaeltharion didn't wait for them to attack. He launched himself forward with inhuman speed, his steel sword flashing in the sunlight. The first ogre barely had time to react before its head was severed from its body, the massive creature collapsing to the ground with a thunderous crash. Kaeltharion didn't stop there. He spun around, his blade slicing through the air as he cut another ogre in half, its body falling in two pieces.

The goblins, realizing the danger, tried to scatter, but Kaeltharion was faster. He moved like a shadow, appearing behind each goblin in the blink of an eye. With precise strikes, he pierced their hearts, his sword skewering them one after the other like pieces of meat on a kebab. The goblins didn't even have time to scream before they fell lifeless to the ground.

Nfirea watched in stunned silence, his mouth hanging open. The sheer speed and precision of Kaeltharion's movements were beyond anything he had ever seen. Fear, awe, and respect warred within him as he realized just how powerful his escort truly was.

Once the last goblin fell, Kaeltharion calmly collected their ears, moving with the same inhuman speed. He tossed them into one of the bags on the carriage, his expression unreadable. Then, he raised his hand, and black circles with strange, glowing symbols appeared above each of the dead bodies.

"[Devouring Hell Flame]" Kaeltharion muttered, his voice low and commanding.

The symbols ignited, and dark flames erupted from the circles, engulfing the corpses. The flames burned with an unnatural intensity, reducing the bodies to ash in moments. When the flames subsided, there was nothing left of the monsters—no trace of their existence remained.

Kaeltharion turned back to Nfirea, his yellow eyes glowing faintly in the dim light. "Let's keep moving," he said, his tone calm as if nothing had happened.

Nfirea could only nod, his mind still reeling from what he had just witnessed. As they continued their journey, he couldn't help but glance at Kaeltharion with newfound respect—and a healthy dose of fear. This man was no ordinary adventurer. He was something else entirely.
