Yandere girls and my fragmented daily life

Chapter 3 - [Trial lesson (2)]

Living in JunHao Garden and having a high status in the neighborhood, SuWen naturally had some knowledge about these matters.

Her daughter is currently in the sixth grade. Despite her daughter’s good academic performance, gaining admission to DeYu Middle School through exams is extremely difficult. Sister Su was well-informed about this, as she had engaged in extensive discussions with her friend Lan XiaoYue, who provided her with valuable insights regarding the school’s entrance requirements.

Having the right connections can help secure a spot in a regular class, but some effort is needed for the advanced class, though it’s still possible.

However, this is only a possibility. As a parent, hoping for the most secure option is natural.

The impact of grades in the advanced class is substantial, making up 60% or even more of the overall evaluation. This is not a problem that can be easily solved through connections.

If her daughter could improve her maths grades and eliminate her weak points, it would greatly enhance her chances of getting into a better class.

That’s the reason Su Wen decided to find a tutor. Currently, in the living room, Ling Fan is a student in the elite class of DeYu Middle School.

DeYu has three levels of classes, each with a significant gap between them. The elite class unquestionably reigns supreme at the pinnacle of the pyramid, and DeYu can be considered the province’s prestigious school.

Her friend also mentioned that Ling Fan was excellent in character and academics. Should she give him a chance at the trial lesson?

SuWen was confident in her judgment, believing one trial lesson would suffice to gauge Ling Fan’s ability.

However, she couldn’t help but ponder if her daughter’s shy personality might lead to difficulties.

Thinking this, SuWen looked at Ling Fan, who was daydreaming in the living room. On closer inspection, she had to admit that the young boy was somewhat cute and handsome.

“What am I thinking?” SuWen quickly shook her head and walked out with two cups of milk.

“Thank you, Sister Su.” Ling Fan had already smelled the milk from a distance and was a little hungry, as it had been some time since he had breakfast.

“It’s nothing. I’m going upstairs to call my daughter. If there are no problems, can you give her a trial lesson?”

“Sure, but first, I’d like to mention something. If you are satisfied with the trial lesson, this lesson will be charged,” Ling Fan hesitated momentarily before deciding it was best to be honest. He didn’t have much money left, so every dollar counts.

“Ah? No problem. As long as the lesson goes well, anything can be discussed. I can even advance the payment if necessary.” SuWen was momentarily surprised; she thought it was something serious.

“Thank you for understanding,” Ling Fan said, relieved.

“Please wait a moment.” SuWen then headed upstairs.

Soon, Su Wen arrived at a pink door, knocked twice, and opened it.

The room was spacious, adorned predominantly in shades of pink. A cute little girl with twin ponytails sat on the bed, pouting.

“Mom, I told you I don’t want a tutor. I can study alone,” the little girl complained to her mother.

Su Wen approached the bed and sighed helplessly.

“This is the last time. If you’re unsatisfied with this tutor, we won’t find another one, alright?” Su Wen was at her wit’s end, having tried many tutors, both male and female. Either her daughter is dissatisfied, or she herself is dissatisfied.

“Okay,” the little girl grumbled and stood up, preparing to go downstairs.

SuWen quickly grabbed the schoolbag and followed her out.

Ling Fan was still daydreaming in the living room and not in a hurry. A lesson lasts no more than an hour; after that, he could grab a bite before heading to another appointment. Everything was going smoothly.

Ling Fan came to the interview fully prepared. Armed with his excellent basic skills and having reviewed the sixth-grade math textbook, he was full of confidence.

Right then, Ling Fan heard sounds from upstairs. Following the direction of the sound, he saw SuWen coming down with a little girl. The girl, with twin ponytails and a slightly chubby face, had an adorable appearance that suited her age.

If described by an otaku, she would be considered “Moe,” Ling Fan thought.

“Ling Fan, this is my daughter, Su MoRan. MoRan, you can call him ‘Brother Ling Fan’,” SuWen made an introduction, but Su MoRan remained silent.

SuWen glanced down and noticed her daughter’s surprised expression, her mouth slightly open.

“He’s my tutor? Isn’t he about the same age as me?” Su MoRan was slightly sceptical.

“Yes, quickly call Brother Ling Fan. Be polite,” Su Wen guided Su MoRan to sit across from Ling Fan.

“Hello, Su MoRan, I’m Ling Fan. I’m in the second year of middle school, so I’m a bit older than you.” Ling Fan greeted Su MoRan with a smile.

“Hello, Brother Ling Fan. I’m Su MoRan. Which middle school do you go to?”

“DeYu Middle School.”

“DeYu Middle School… Wow!” Su MoRan’s eyes sparkled.

“It’s nothing. If you work hard, you can also,” Ling Fan was amused by Su MoRan’s reaction. But he had to maintain his image; he must resist laughing out.

“Sister Su, should I start the lesson here?” Ling Fan said, pulling out a textbook and notebook from his bag. The notebook was one he had used previously.

Before Su Wen could respond, Su MoRan had already hugged her book and sat next to Ling Fan.

Seeing this, SuWen felt hopeful. She’d never seen her daughter like this before, and the boy appeared genuine and sincere, with no ulterior motives.

“No problem, you can start the lesson now.” SuWen poured herself a cup of tea and sat across from Ling Fan, ready to observe his lesson.

Ling Fan, with prior teaching experience and supported by the ‘teaching’ skill, was well-acquainted with the process. His teaching level, recognised even by the elite teachers at DeYu, was more than sufficient to handle a sixth grader. It was like shooting a mosquito with antiaircraft artillery.

During the lesson, Ling Fan did not look up at SuWen; his attention was solely on the book and Su MoRan’s state. Since this was their initial interaction, he needed to understand Su MoRan’s level, personality, and learning abilities in various aspects to customise his teaching approach.

Su Wen observed Ling Fan’s teaching with a very expressive face. In her opinion, Ling Fan’s teaching skills were the best among recent applicants. After listening for thirty minutes, SuWen felt there was no need to continue. Ling Fan teaching her daughter was clearly a case of “putting fine timber to petty use.”

Moreover, Su MoRan’s state during the lesson was also markedly different; it was clear that she was fully engaged.

Seeing her daughter’s condition, SuWen felt relief and began to busy herself in the kitchen, preparing some snacks.

Time flew by in a blink of an eye. Ling Fan felt it was about time and glanced at his phone to check the time.

“Sister Su, I’ve finished the first trial lesson. What do you think?” Ling Fan stood up and stretched, calling out to the kitchen.

“Wait a moment, I’m making some snacks for you. I’ll be right there,” SuWen’s voice came from the kitchen.

Ling Fan felt a spark of hope. If things weren’t satisfactory, he might be dismissed immediately; snacks? Don’t even think! With this thought, his mood improved, and he finished the last bit of milk in his cup.

Right then, Ling Fan noticed Su MoRan staring at him.

“What’s wrong, Su MoRan? Did I forget to wash my face this morning?” Ling Fan looked at Su MoRan, confused.

“No, no, Brother Ling Fan. I’ll pour you some more milk,” Su MoRan blushed, swiftly taking Ling Fan’s cup to the kitchen.

“Okay, thanks.” Ling Fan didn’t give much thought to this. He was thinking about giving Su MoRan some tasks later. Ling Fan was confident that this interview would go well.

Soon, Su Wen and Su MoRan came in front of the sofa.

“MoRan, you go upstairs first. I need to talk to Ling Fan about something.”

“Okay, Mom.” Su MoRan glanced at Ling Fan, who seemed completely engrossed in the textbook, paying no attention to her. She felt a tad let down and sulkily made her way upstairs.

SuWen observed this and felt a slight sense of relief. Despite his young age, Ling Fan possessed an air of maturity and stability. If he had any ulterior motives, she would be very vexed.

But now all those worries have disappeared.

“Ling Fan, to be honest, I’m very satisfied with this lesson,” Su Wen said with a smile and a nod.

“Except that it was a bit short, only forty-five minutes. It’s not good for a man to be too short.”

“Ahem, I usually keep my lessons to forty-five minutes. Can I take it to mean that I passed the interview?” Ling Fan coughed to hide his awkwardness. He didn’t expect the other party to be suddenly making dirty jokes.

“Yes, and as you said, this lesson will also be paid.”

“Then thank you, Sister Su.” Ling Fan stood up to thank SuWen.

“Pfft, it’s fine. In the future, my little girl will need more of your guidance.”

“Of course. By the way, what is the fee per lesson?” Ling Fan couldn’t help but enquire about the payment since it was an important matter.

“For a forty-five-minute lesson, how about three hundred?” SuWen thought for a moment and gave a price.

“That seems a little high. I think it could be lower,” Ling Fan said, surprised. The lesson was relatively easy for him; three hundred per class was a substantial income for him.

“There is no issue with that, Ling Fan. I don’t think it’s too high. I’ve met many teachers, but you’re the best I’ve seen. Additionally, MoRan can accept your teaching, which is crucial.”

“You don’t need to feel pressured. I think I’m getting a good deal,” Su Wen chuckled and added when she noticed Ling Fan about to say something.

“I understand. Thank you, Sister Su.” Ling Fan thought about it, and he indeed needed money. Since SuWen said so, she must have her reasons.

“Let’s schedule the lessons every Saturday from 9:00 to 11:30. How does that sound, Ling Fan?”

“Two and a half hours, which amounts to three lessons with breaks. But, Sister Su, I live quite far away. It takes more than an hour by bus, so I might not arrive on time. How about two lessons instead?” Ling Fan considered his habit of staying up late and needing more rest, so he wanted to allow for some flexibility.

“That’s not a problem. Leave it to me.” SuWen took out her phone and made a call.

After putting down the phone, SuWen had a question she wanted to ask.

Can I ask something personal? Why did you come to be a tutor? If it’s inconvenient to answer, you don’t have to.”

“Well, it’s no secret. I live alone and need to make some money for myself. Ling Fan saw no reason to avoid the question. Being poor was not something to be embarrassed about.

After hearing this, SuWen didn’t say anything. She had somewhat guessed that since Ling Fan didn’t have anything of significant value on him, even his phone was very cheap.

However, she had not expected Ling Fan to live alone. She should ask Lan XiaoYue about the details later.

“Then I’ll advance the payment for twelve lessons,” SuWen decided to pay Ling Fan in advance. She wasn’t concerned that Ling Fan would run away and a few thousand yuan was just pocket money for her.

SuWen handed Ling Fan 3,600 in cash without giving him a chance to refuse. Ling Fan, seeing this, has no choice but to accept it. After giving SuWen a receipt, he briefly explained how Su MoRan’s first lesson went, checked the time on his phone, and decided to leave.

He needed to find a place to eat and then head to his next appointment in the afternoon.

Politely declining SuWen’s invitation to lunch, SuWen walked Ling Fan to the gate. Upon opening the door, Ling Fan noticed a man in a suit standing nearby, who seemed to have been waiting for a while.

“This is our driver, Mr. Zhang. He will take you back. From now on, Mr. Zhang will pick you up on Saturday mornings,” SuWen instructed Mr. Zhang and mentioned Ling Fan’s situation. The suited man nodded in acknowledgement.

“Thank you, Sister Su, but I have some other matters in the afternoon. Let’s leave it for next time. I’ll send you the address later.”

“Alright, take care and stay safe on the road.”

“By the way, Sister Su, I left my notebook on the sofa.” It’s my sixth-grade math notes. You can give it to Su MoRan; it should be useful.”

After some small talk, Ling Fan was in a good mood as he walked towards LinJian Garden, intending to find a place to eat before heading to his next appointment later that afternoon.

Having already passed one interview, the pressure on Ling Fan was significantly reduced. He considered himself quite lucky—Su Muran was a well-behaved girl and not dumb. There was a good chance of improving her grades. With this thought, Ling Fan couldn’t help but smile.
