Chapter 240: Chapter 240: The Retreat
Chapter 240: The Retreat
At that moment, a powerful surge of green energy surged from Lin Langtian's body, rolling outward in waves. The strength now emanating from him was on par with that of the Deathly General, reaching the level of the Five Yuan Nirvana Stage!
The Deathly General was visibly shaken by this unexpected burst of power. Although he was aware that Lin Langtian possessed the Wood Emperor Sect's inheritance, he had not anticipated that Langtian would master it so quickly.
Feeling the surge in his own power, Lin Langtian couldn't help but smirk. The Wood Emperor's Threefold Art was indeed powerful—even at the first level, it exhibited terrifying potential. The thought of reaching the third level someday sent a thrill through him.
With his newfound strength, Lin Langtian fixed his gaze on the seemingly indestructible Deathly General. A cold smile played on his lips as he summoned crimson flames in his hand and hurled them toward his foe.
Boom!
The violent flames exploded, igniting the dried leaves scattered around them. They were swept away by the gust of energy that followed.
"Death Demon Seal!" the Deathly General hissed, his face tense as he sensed the intensified power of Lin Langtian's attack. Dark energy gathered in his hand, forming an enormous black seal covered with ghostly symbols that exuded a corrosive aura of death. The seal rose and struck the incoming wave of fire.
The eerie dark energy of the Death Demon Seal wasn't pure death energy from the Life-and-Death Mystical Stage, but it was nearly as corrosive. It could wreak havoc even on powerful Nirvana experts.
Lin Langtian, however, felt only disdain. With the Vermilion Bird's Flame, even real death energy would pose no threat.
Boom! Boom!
The Vermilion Bird's Flame crashed into the ghostly seal, causing it to tremble and show signs of cracking.
"Not good!" the Deathly General muttered, his face twisting in concern as Lin Langtian's flames, seemingly immune to his seal's corrosive power, surged forward. In desperation, he punched the seal, pouring more energy into it to increase its weight and stability.
However, the Vermilion Bird's Flame wasn't deterred. It consumed every bit of the Deathly General's energy as though it were a feast, leaving nothing behind.
"What?" the Deathly General gasped, visibly shaken. Before he could act, the fiery hand shattered the seal and rushed toward him, unstoppable.
Bang!
Violent energy erupted from the red flames, now significantly stronger due to Lin Langtian's increase to the Five Yuan Nirvana Stage. The Deathly General's body was engulfed in flames, nearly half of it consumed, before he was sent sprawling to the ground.
Lin Langtian looked down coldly at the severely injured Deathly General and spoke slowly. "I warned you—sneaky rats like you aren't worthy of my inheritance."
The Deathly General, too weak to respond, simply glared at him. Black smoke seeped from his shattered form. Nearly half his body had been incinerated, and though he was still alive, he looked bizarrely incomplete. His aura had weakened substantially, and his eyes, dim and unfocused, flashed with panic and rage.
He had never imagined he would end up like this. His strength was nearly unrivaled, even among the elite of the superpowers, and he was considered one of the top fighters in this central region of the battlefield. His bizarre, undead-like state made him hard to kill—even other experts at the Five Yuan Nirvana Stage would struggle to put him down completely.
As he looked at the victorious Lin Langtian, a glint of hatred appeared in the Deathly General's eyes. He sneered, "Kid, you're strong, I admit it. But the power backing me is beyond your comprehension. Even if you defeat me, you won't stand a chance on the battlefield. Soon, you Eastern Xuan geniuses will all be nothing more than slaves!"
"Keep dreaming," Lin Langtian scoffed, ignoring the Deathly General's words. Without giving him a chance to continue his threats, Lin Langtian flicked his wrist, and a crimson flame coalesced into a spear of fire.
The fire spear tore through the air like a bolt of lightning, piercing what was left of the Deathly General's battered body.
Boom!
The explosion sent tremors across the ground, and massive cracks spread out in a hundred-foot radius like a spiderweb.
Whoosh!
The next moment, the ground where the Deathly General had fallen exploded as a cloud of black light shot upward and scattered in all directions.
"Think you can kill me that easily? Lin Langtian, remember this—our grudge is sealed. Soon, all of you Eastern Xuan geniuses will be nothing but slaves!" the Deathly General's eerie voice echoed as the black light rapidly escaped into the darkness.
Lin Langtian scowled, releasing his mental energy to locate the Deathly General's form among the scattered shadows. His gaze sharpened, and he reached out, unleashing a strand of Vermilion Bird's Flame that streaked through the air and struck a fleeing shadow.
Boom!
The fire struck, eliciting a scream from the Deathly General. The black light flared one last time before vanishing deep into the forest.
"Interesting... he's only at the Five Yuan Nirvana Stage, yet he's already acquired a trace of a spiritual essence," Lin Langtian murmured, watching the shadow's retreat.
