Chapter 70 The Guards Step In
With the numbers of the goblins dwindling, as usual, the Goblin Chieftain, who was the only one here who showed even an inkling of intelligence, was filled with anger.
His men were dying without bound, and he was not able to do anything about it.
He raised his staff and started shouting. With that, out of the four guards around him, two of them started moving, while the other two stayed back to guard the chieftain.
"There are so many differences between this raid and the raid that I have been in before. Just what is happening here? I don't understand anything. Is it a problem with the first raid, or a problem with the raid in general? It can't be the raid in general. I may have caused a few changes, but none of them major enough for the entire game itself to be changed so much." Jake thought to himself as he nodded toward Myriad Arrows and Kierch.
From where they were, they separated, Jake, taking one of the giant goblins that was coming toward the guild, and Myriad Arrows teaming up with Kierch to take the other.
"Keep fighting. We will stall the guards as much as we can. Until then, you need to make sure that the number of goblins left alive reach a bare minimum." Jake shouted at the guild members as his rusty looking sword left its scabbard once more.
He ran toward the goblin guard, keeping an eye on its HP bar. This monster wasn't nearly as strong as the cyclops that they faced a while ago. That cyclops was a true raid boss, with a HP bar so high that it took so much time to defeat it.
But with the guard here, it was just like facing off with another player that was probably a little higher leveled than you?
He slid beneath the club that was swung at him, and came out behind the guard. His sword swung at the goblin, and purple blood oozed out.
[-1289 HP]
This attack was strong enough, and with Jake putting so much of his stat points into strength previously, he now had a very high attack power.
Every single attack of his was going to make a dent in the HP bar of this guard. Already, a few inches were shaved off with this attack, once again showing that this particular goblin wasn't a threat. It just happened to be a little big.
He did not use any of his bigger moves even once though. He did not want to waste them. Not knowing when the Goblin Chieftain would enter the battle in this unpredictable raid that he was in, he decided that he would not use his better skills unless absolutely necessary.
And these guards helped him hold to his decision. They were as dumb as all the other goblins, swinging randomly, not looking at the opponent, and when Jake was behind his particular guard, the goblin guard decided that its opponent was no longer with it, and it started walking toward another player around it.
Within a few minutes, the battle field was looking sparse, and the second guard was already down, with a combination of Kierch and Myriad Arrows taking care of it relatively easily.
"I am taking more time than them? What a shame." Jake shook his head as his sword shone.
"Despairing Strike!"
The sword cut toward the goblin guard, and it slid right through, forming a narrow slit from which the upper body started slowly falling down.
[Critical Hit! -8712 HP]
The goblin guard was gone, and so were many of the goblins themselves. Now, there were only two goblin guards, and the goblin chieftain left to take care of.
Cracking his knuckles, he smiled at the guild members.
"Take care of the goblins. You should all be done in about ten minutes. Don't stop there, and go ahead to collect all of the loot that has been dropped as well." he said as he walked forward, Myriad Arrows and Kierch walking toward him as well.
They convened right in front of the middle of the room, with the best view they had of the Goblin Chieftain yet.
With red eyes, sticky looking green skin, wrinkles all over its body, and a staff that would make any mage right now shuffle with greed, this goblin chieftain was a proper boss as well.
Looking at his HP bar, there was not one, but two!
Albeit the second one was a smaller HP bar, it did not change the fact that there were two. But these three were used to playing against monsters with more than one HP bar.
Jake had already seen this much in World Online for ten years, while Myriad Arrows and Kierch had seen the same stories in other VRMMORPGs. It could only mean one thing.
The Goblin Chieftain had another form that would reveal itself when the first HP bar went down.
"What's the attack strategy now then? If we enter the circle, I guess the other two guards will attack us as well? What do we do then?" Myriad Arrows asked.
"There are three of us. Three opponents before us. We just need to finish off the guards before we can all gang up on the Goblin Chieftain that is before us. Myriad Arrows, distract the Goblin Chieftain. Make sure that his attacks come toward you. You can avoid them, I hope. Kierch and I will finish off a goblin guard each." Jake said.
"That's all and good, but you both better turn around. The goblin guards started moving." Myriad Arrows pointed at the circle.
Jake and Kierch turned around, and they saw that both of the goblin guards, as huge as they were, started walking toward them slowly, with the clubs in their hands, looking menacingly at the three intruders.
"Alright. You guys know the plan." Jake nodded, and immediately, all three of them moved.
