Chapter 3: Chapter 3. A new dawn
Chapter 3. A new dawn

Born amid tragedy, he was given the name "Ash" because the day of his birth coincided with a catastrophic fire that reduced his family home—and several relatives—to nothing but ashes. His mother, gravely ill in the hospital, passed away shortly after hearing the devastating news. His father, heartbroken and superstitious, deemed him a curse, blaming him for the misfortune. The name "Ash" carried with it the weight of sorrow, anger, and loss. It represented everything he wished to escape.
Ash wants to discard that name. To leave behind the painful memories and stigma, he chose a new identity: Shinji Hirako, meaning "true peaceful ruler." It wasn't just a name but a declaration of his desire for a new beginning, a chance to redefine his destiny in this new world.
Shinji awoke to find the mischievous Princess Veronika clinging to him, her arms wrapped tightly around his torso. Her expression, calm and serene in sleep, contrasted sharply with the chaos of the previous night. Touching his eyes, Shinji marveled at the newfound clarity of his vision. Though still blind by normal standards, his perception had improved, as if the world now existed in sharper contrast and richer colors.
"Yesterday it was black and white now it's feel like it got improve to144 pixels."
"Let's check the system first," Shinji muttered, his thoughts turning to the enigmatic power that had recently awakened within him.

From what I've remembered so far, I can guess why names are so important in this world—they're not just for identity; they represent power. But not everyone has a name as naming someone cause dearly, and for those without one, life can be harsh. Even so, some weapons and objects have names, and those names often bestow them with unique and extraordinary abilities.
I did explained the meaning of Princess Veronika's name last night to her: "True image of victory." But she seemed to brush it off as nothing more than a compliment.
Then there's mana… Mana is the lifeblood of this world. Everyone relies on it as their source of power —everyone except me. My strength comes from something else entirely: (reishi) Whether this difference will be an advantage or a burden in this world, only time will tell.
Now, about my power system...
It revolves around something called the Wheel of Luck. By spinning it, I can acquire pieces of power, gifts, or maybe even something unpredictable.

*Wheel of Luck — Spin to receive a gift.
Explanation: Figure it out yourself.
————————————————————————————
...Seriously? That's all the guidance I get? Just "figure it out"? It's as cryptic as it gets.
I don't know what it's trying to say... but let's try spinning the wheel first.
Curious about the Wheel of Luck, Shinji decided to spin it. With a flick, the wheel turned, glowing faintly.

Wait... isn't that Tōsen's zampakuto? Well, whatever. A blind man getting help from a blind man's weapon feels oddly poetic.
Shinji sighed, readying himself to wake the princess. He glanced at the notification near the item display and muttered, "I'll deal with this later."
He leaned toward her, hesitating before softly calling out, "Miss... Miss, you need to wake up. It's morning."
A muffled voice answered, "Umm, I want to sleep more. Don't disturb me, Syr…"
Turning his attention to the sleeping princess, he gently shook her. "Miss Ronika, wake up.. I need to get up and join the others' before the princess maid comes here storming."Shinji insisted, playing his role.
The mention of the maids startled Veronika awake. She bolted upright, scanning her surroundings, her panic evident. 'What have I done?' The weight of the previous night hit her like a storm, and she began to formulate excuses. 'What should I do now?'
Her gaze landed on Shinji, who stood by the bed, calm but unreadable. She clenched her fists, debating whether to silence him forever. But then, the memory of her drunken actions brought a pang of guilt. 'I was the one who forced myself on him... It's my fault.'
Her lips moved before her mind could stop them. "Shinji... Can I see your eyes again?"
Shinji blinked in surprise. "Um… Sure. But can I ask why?"
"Nothing. I just need to confirm something," Veronika replied, her tone steady despite the turmoil within.
Nodding, Shinji removed his blindfold, and the vibrant colors of the world faded into complete darkness for him.
Veronika stepped closer, staring into his pale, unseeing eyes. The clarity she sought eluded her, her emotions tangling in a web of doubt and self-reproach. Slowly, she raised her hairpin, the sharp edge trembling just a centimeter from Shinji's eye.
He didn't flinch.
"Do you… see anything?" Veronika whispered, her voice barely audible.
"Only the same darkness as always," Shinji replied evenly.
Veronika lowered the pin, shaking her head. 'He's really blind. He's always been blind. But I can't let myself be dragged to something by the so-called small miracle.' She stepped back. "Nothing. You can put the blindfold back on now."
Shinji complied, tying the cloth back into place. Veronika turned abruptly toward the window, her silhouette framed by the dim light of early morning.
"I should go. My friends are waiting," she said. Pausing at the window, she glanced over her shoulder. "I hope our paths cross again, Shinji."
Without waiting for a response, she vaulted gracefully out of the window, vanishing into the pre-dawn streets.
Shinji stared in her direction, shaking his head as he muttered under his breath, "She's a savage."
