Chapter 55: Chapter 55: Liquid Battle Qi
"That's… the Frost Wolf family's wolf cavalry!"
The Ice Bear Marquis narrowed his eyes as he took in the sight.
As someone who had lived through the prime of the Frost Wolf family, he was well acquainted with the legend of their wolf cavalry.
But hadn't the old duke's wolf cavalry perished on the battlefield? How could the Frost Wolf family muster so many wolf riders now?
With their depleted resources, taming and training this many gray wolves should have been impossible. The situation seemed utterly illogical.
The other nobles and knights in the Ice Bear City coalition saw the wolf cavalry as well, their faces paling as memories of the old duke's wolf cavalry sweeping the battlefield flooded their minds.
The sheer number of wolf riders here was comparable to the peak of the Frost Wolf family's power.
Gray wolves prowled in formation, growling low and ferociously.
Suddenly, from the surrounding forests, even more gray wolves emerged, their howls echoing ominously. The battlefield became a cacophony of wolf cries from all directions.
"Wolf packs! More wolf packs!"
"This… this can't be possible! Where did they get so many gray wolves?"
Some of the nobles gasped, disbelief etched across their faces.
The gray wolves, infused with traces of extraordinary bloodlines, could challenge squire-level combatants. Their sheer numbers seemed overwhelming.
Even though the coalition forces outnumbered the wolves, few of their soldiers had the strength of squires. The disparity in combat power was stark.
Seeing this, some nobles began to regret joining the coalition.
Had they known Frost Wolf Ridge had this many wolves, they would never have come.
This wasn't an invasion of Frost Wolf Ridge. This was Frost Wolf Ridge lying in wait for the coalition to march into a trap—a veritable den of wolves.
"What are you afraid of?!"
"Even if the Frost Wolf family has some wolf cavalry left, this duke is not the old duke! What's there to fear?"
"As long as we kill the Frost Wolf Duke, these wolves will be of no concern!"
The Ice Bear Marquis's voice rang out cold and commanding, restoring order to the coalition forces.
"All knights, slow your pace, form ranks, and prepare to charge with me," he ordered.
"Yes, Marquis!" The knights obeyed and moved to organize the troops.
On the other side, David watched the coalition army slow its march from his position on the wall.
His eyes gleamed coldly.
"Frost Wolf Knights, charge!" he commanded decisively.
While the enemy was still organizing, David wasn't about to give them time to regroup.
The horn of battle sounded, and the wolf cavalry surged forward.
David led the charge astride Little White, with the wolf cavalry forming a gray wave behind him.
"Marquis, they're coming!"
Panic rippled through the coalition ranks.
Though their force numbered over a thousand, it was poorly coordinated—a patchwork of hastily assembled troops.
Many had assumed the Ice Bear Knights alone would crush Frost Wolf Ridge without issue.
They hadn't anticipated the Frost Wolf Duke to lead a charge himself, accompanied by a formidable wolf cavalry.
"Good. Let them come!"
"Ice Bear Knights, charge with me!"
With a roar, the Ice Bear Marquis urged his white bear into motion.
The elite Ice Bear Knights, already prepared for battle, surged forward in response to his command.
The highland warhorses, though lacking the extraordinary bloodlines of gray wolves, compensated with their immense size, endurance, and heavy armor.
As the Ice Bear Knights charged, the battlefield shook with the thunder of hooves.
The two forces—wolf cavalry and armored knights—hurtled toward each other like twin avalanches.
The ground trembled beneath the combined weight of their charge.
Finally, the Frost Wolf Knights and Ice Bear Knights clashed.
Gray wolves met armored warhorses in a bone-rattling impact.
Despite the warhorses' heavy armor, the sheer strength and ferocity of the gray wolves matched their charge.
Amidst the melee, the riders engaged in vicious combat. Weapons clashed, armor dented, and the air was filled with the sounds of battle.
The Ice Bear Knights held the advantage in weapons and armor, but the gray wolves' agility and ferocity evened the playing field.
A wolf leapt high, dragging an Ice Bear Knight from his saddle, tearing through his armor.
As the melee continued, howls erupted from the surrounding forest as additional packs of gray wolves poured onto the battlefield.
Little Snow, the newly tamed snow wolf, led a contingent of wolves into the fray, attacking the Ice Bear Knights from the flanks.
The Ice Bear Knights, overwhelmed by wolves from all sides, found themselves unable to maintain their formation.
"Get off me!"
The Ice Bear Marquis roared, swinging his massive hammer to crush a wolf that leapt at him.
His eyes locked onto David, who was cutting a path through the chaos atop Little White.
The Marquis knew that this battle would be decided not by armies, but by the duel between himself and the Frost Wolf Duke.
"I'll crush him!"
The Ice Bear Marquis spurred his white bear forward, confident in his strength.
He was no ordinary Earth Knight—his battle qi had par
tially liquefied, a hallmark of those on the cusp of the fifth tier.
David, he thought, had no chance against him.
