Why Am I a Priestess When I Reach the Maximum Level?

Chapter 38

Chapter 38: This Demon God is No Good

In the 【Fantasy World】, there are countless bosses named xx God and xx Demon God, and I’ve faced at least a dozen of them.

Yet, those are clearly not comparable to the “Demon God” of this world; they’re fundamentally different entities.

The source of my familiarity was indeed that thing in my backpack…

“I’d like to ask, who is the master of the demon dragon you mentioned?”

“The Demon God, the great Lady Olivya, the deity of all magical beasts.” There was hope in the eyes of the ancient Dragon Turtle. “My lady, do you know her?”

Demon God… Demon God Jewel…

“I don’t know her.”

I shook my head, but before Nasarion could display disappointment, I suddenly reached into the Void and pulled out a round black gem, placing it before the giant turtle’s head.

“However, the name of this thing seems to include the words ‘Demon God’. Do you recognize it?”

“This… this! Could it be?”

The old turtle stared wide-eyed for a long time and suddenly roared in shock, “Is this the gem at the top of the great Demon Lord’s staff? I remember when I first met her, she was holding this!” But then he frowned, “Strange… why does its energy seem so weak? The great Demon Lord’s staff is a legendary artifact!”

“Well, it’s good that you recognize it.”

I retrieved the piece of the 【Demon God Jewel (fragment)】 from the altar deep within the dark forest and explained casually.

“This is just a fragment; its original form must have shattered. If this truly is the Demon God’s weapon, then I suspect she isn’t doing so well either…”

Just think about it, if my signature staff, the 【Eternal Staff · Heart of the World】 was broken into pieces, I would definitely retrieve it and try to repair it. If I couldn’t even do that…

Of course, I don’t know if the Demon God’s staff is truly a legendary artifact, but the 【Eternal Staff · Heart of the World】 is indestructible. One of its features is that it’s impervious to damage and never wears down.

In fact, this equipment doesn’t even have durability; even if I wanted to destroy or dismantle it myself, I couldn’t. The Priestess often whacks people with it directly.

“How is this possible… the great Demon Lord’s exclusive artifact actually shattered? Who on earth could accomplish such a thing… other gods? But why…?”

The Dragon Turtle Nasarion lowered his head, engulfed in deep anxiety and self-doubt.

In his eyes, the Demon God Olivya is perhaps the most powerful existence in this world. Although he doesn’t understand why she has been distant from the mortal realm for so long, he never considered… that she might have fallen.

“So, my father, the demon dragon Nasatrik, could it be that he…”

“Miss Vilyric, may I ask how you obtained this fragment? Do you have any other clues about the Demon Lord?”

“Well… it was a coincidence, I just happened to… cough cough, acquire it, and I’m not clear on who placed it there or why.” The player girl nearly choked on her own words and hurriedly rephrased.

“Is that so…” The giant turtle looked quite dejected, “Having guarded the Black River for so long, I never expected it would end up like this… Father, the great Demon Lord… who would have thought that day would be our final farewell…”

“Uh, I never said they’re definitely dead… By the way, casually asking, how long have you been guarding this river?” I suddenly realized something.

“Exactly, I can’t remember clearly, but at least over a thousand years. Ever since my father was called away by the great Demon Lord to the heavens, I have followed his last wishes to protect the offspring he left behind.”

Wow, over a thousand years? So, doesn’t that mean Nasarion has been lurking in this Black River without going out since the United Kingdom didn’t even exist?

The United Kingdom was established about eight hundred years ago by several notable adventurers with the goal of protecting humanity’s last peaceful sanctuary amidst the threats of powerful other races.

In fact, besides the United Kingdom, other countries in the world are not purely composed of humans; even the Ost Empire and the Holy Empire, where humans dominate, are not exceptions.

I wanted to gather important historical events from the old turtle regarding the continent over the past few hundred years, and Nasarion was also primarily interested in the “changes happening among the gods,” but in reality, neither of us brought anything useful to the table, leaving us staring blankly at each other with confusion.

“It seems that you are not an ancient deity of the same generation as the Demon Lord. Could it be that you are a new god born of this world? But the gods have not shown themselves in over a thousand years, why suddenly… and this being, as a Guardian Dragon, also reached the realm of gods…”

The old turtle snorted irritably. In the end, besides learning of the devastating news that the Demon Lord and the dragon might already be gone, he gained no useful information, and his confusion only deepened.

I was also pretty perplexed.

Due to the old turtle’s various reactions, I had speculated more than once that the so-called gods he mentioned might be players like me who came from the game, just at a different point in time.

But that’s not possible.

Firstly, the Dragon Turtle Nasarion is undoubtedly a native creature of this world; based on his body language and behavior, he knows nothing about the 【Fantasy World】.

Secondly, since he’s titled a god, the Demon God Olivya’s strength must be formidable; she should at least be a level 100 player, a slight bit famous, but in reality, I’ve never heard of that name in 【Fantasy World】.

【Fantasy World】 is not like other pay-to-win online games where you can buy your way to max level. Leveling up in this game is extremely challenging; it’s not just about killing monsters. If you’re unlucky, you might still be stuck between levels 70 and 80 even after a year or two of playing.

As of the time I crossed over, level 100 max-level players only made up about one in a thousand, and those who achieved a breakthrough like me are even fewer.

Of course, just going by the name might not mean much; perhaps the person is just low-key or changed their name after coming here.

But setting aside the long gap of at least a thousand years between me and the Demon God Olivya, I’ve also never heard of players going missing or becoming vegetable-like in 【Fantasy World】. If there were such major issues, the game company wouldn’t keep it under wraps.

The most crucial piece of evidence is that this 【Demon God Jewel (fragment)】 is definitely not equipment from 【Fantasy World】. I confirmed this the moment I used my skill to investigate it.

If this Demon God’s weapon were anything like my 【Eternal Staff · Heart of the World】 and produced within the game, I would have been able to obtain a more detailed property report. Even if it were broken, there would still be some informative clues; I could only infer its basic functions.

This is undoubtedly a weapon born of this world.

Thus, the claim that the Demon God is a player lacks credibility.

With a mind full of confusion, I sent Nasarion out of the pet space and returned to the deck of the 【Noah’s Ark】.

The rest was simple; after this conversation, the old turtle naturally wouldn’t, and couldn’t, harbor any more hostility towards me.

Not only did he actively call back the magical beasts attacking the ship’s bottom, but he also escorted the 【Noah’s Ark】 alongside until we reached the shore.

Liliya and the others were certainly amazed, but having witnessed so many incredible things from me, they had become somewhat numb and didn’t say much. They also showed no interest in inquiring about what happened after the teleportation.

“Then, Miss Vilyric, let’s part ways here. Regardless, I thank you for your kindness and for the information you provided. If you have any commands in the future, please don’t hesitate to come find me by the Black River.”

The giant dragon turtle surfaced in the river, exposing most of its head, respectfully and quietly expressing gratitude to the black-haired girl.

After all, he had previously attacked her in the river; though he couldn’t harm her at all, regardless of whether she is a deity, her strength is beyond question, and such actions were undeniably a great offense.

But it seemed like Vilyric wasn’t too concerned and didn’t hold a grudge over it. During our conversation, she didn’t pull any superiority act, so calling her kind was not an exaggeration.

After all, he had seen plenty of those who deemed themselves overwhelmingly powerful and acted recklessly.

“It’s nothing, nothing at all. If I happen to come across any new information regarding the Demon God, I’ll let you know. Bye for now.”

“I can’t thank you enough. Goodbye, my lady…”

In the end, Nasarion looked at the priestess girl on the riverbank with his ancient eyes, and his body gradually sank into the Black River, swimming towards the distance.
