Chapter 23 - Various Thoughts
“Hmph~”
Yue Rui hummed a couple of inexplicable sounds, then gave a disdainful look before closing the window.
This made Yang Shifei, who was about to come up and ask a question, stop in his tracks. Feeling somewhat puzzled, he could only return to his room and tidy up first.
After cleaning for a while, he shook his head helplessly at the bed boards torn into pieces. He would have to wait for the carpenter to make a new bed.
Recalling last night’s experience, he couldn’t help but rub his neck. It was the first time he felt that even with the cold energy, his body still felt a bit fragile.
Taking advantage of being alone, Yang Shifei tested his abilities.
The cold energy brought by Yue Rui could strengthen his physique and grant extraordinary combat instincts. However, the cold energy from Tan Xiang was stable and silent, lingering motionlessly in his chest.
This left Yang Shifei somewhat speechless.
Could it be that this cold energy, like Tan Xiang herself, was also sulking?
…
Half an hour later.
As the kitchen smoke dispersed, Yang Shifei hurried into the courtyard with two bowls of noodles.
After the unexpected incident last night, he naturally felt embarrassed to wait for Tan Xiang to bring him food again, so he decided to cook for himself.
Moreover, there was an extra ‘diner’ today.
“Smells so good~”
Yue Rui’s eyes sparkled as she lightly nibbled on her chopsticks, the corners of her mouth seemingly glistening with drool.
Obviously, the little girl’s mood had improved considerably.
Seeing her so eager, Yang Shifei couldn’t help but chuckle. “It’s rare to see you so lively during the day.”
“Because, I have a lot to ask you.”
Yue Rui started slurping her noodles and then looked at him eagerly, “What does it feel like when tongues fight?”
Yang Shifei: “…”
Fortunately, he hadn’t taken a bite of his noodles yet, or he would have choked for sure.
some consideration, he tentatively asked, “Girl, how much noise did you hear last night?”
“At first, I thought you two were arguing. The bed was creaking.” Yue Rui tilted her head, “Then I heard slurping sounds, which lasted a long time.”
Yang Shifei chuckled dryly, “Sorry for disturbing you.”
No wonder when he woke up in the morning, his lips felt numb, and Tan Xiang’s lips were even swollen.
So they kissed all night long.
Just how much can Miss Tan Xiang kiss?
“It wasn’t disturbing; it was interesting.” Yue Rui’s eyes sparkled with curiosity as she leaned in closer. “Plus, you have a new scent on you.”
Yang Shifei paused his eating. “That should be Miss Tan Xiang’s scent. It seems your powers don’t mix well?”
Yue Rui nodded slightly. “Indeed, they are different.”
Yang Shifei’s expression grew a bit strange.
Two different powers in one body… Could it lead to some catastrophic explosion?
At this moment, Yue Rui finished the broth in her bowl and stood up with a little grunt.
She quickly stepped in front of Yang Shifei and extended her right hand. “Come on, suck some from me.”
“Huh?”
“Hurry up.” Yue Rui puffed her cheeks and huffed, “Don’t dawdle!”
Yang Shifei, surprised by her urgency, found it curious.
Although they hadn’t known each other for long, this was the first time he saw her so impatient. Her usual calm demeanor was gone, replaced with a hint of anxiety.
“What’s wrong?”
“Hmph!” Yue Rui seemed displeased, glaring at him as she grabbed his hand. “Nothing, just suck from me.”
Still puzzled, Yang Shifei decided to proceed and began absorbing the cold energy.
The bone-chilling coldness surged into his arm, making his face contort in pain.
This time, he managed to endure it for nearly twenty breaths before stopping, feeling a sense of ‘fullness’ and slight pain in his meridians.
“Hiss… Satisfied now?”
Yang Shifei, with a pale face, shook his hand until the soreness subsided.
Feeling her power dominate within him, Yue Rui smiled brightly again. “Satisfied~”
Seeing the sweat on his forehead, she bit her lip and whispered, “Wouldn’t it hurt less if you used your lips?”
Yang Shifei froze at her words, then quickly laughed awkwardly and waved his hand. “No, if I really did that, I’d get arrested.”
“…Hmph.” Yue Rui pouted playfully. “I’m just a little smaller than that woman.”
“It’s not the same.” Yang Shifei’s eyes instinctively glanced down.
Two little bundles.
Yue Rui took a deep breath, put her hands on her hips, and puffed out her chest. “How about now?”
Yang Shifei responded seriously, “Steamed buns.”
Yue Rui deflated instantly and raised her hands, curling her fingers into a mock-threatening gesture. “You jerk.”
Watching the girl turn and dash back into the house, Yang Shifei chuckled to himself, feeling as if he were taking care of a mischievous little wildcat.
Despite her slender frame, he had to admit she was genuinely adorable.
…
After handling the accounts from Clear Moon Pavilion from the previous day, Yang Shifei proactively went to the Luo Mansion to inquire about the situation with the Nine Layers Sect.
“I heard from Tan Xiang that you were injured yesterday,” Luo Xian’er said as she sat beside him in the main hall, her eyes showing a trace of concern. “You do look quite weak.”
“It’s nothing, I’m almost fully recovered,” Yang Shifei replied with a smile, pulling out the account book from his coat. “Will Clear Moon Pavilion remain open these next few days?”
“Yes.” Luo Xian’er placed the account book aside and nodded slightly. “The matter with the Nine Layers Sect will indeed cause some disturbances. However, the authorities will maintain order in the East City to minimize the impact on the residents’ daily lives.”
“What about the yamen?”
“The mastermind is secretly collaborating with Xiang Tianlin while also making deals with a few groups of bandits outside the city. These two groups don’t know each other and are simply following orders. After a night of interrogation, they still don’t know each other’s backgrounds, only that they were paid a significant amount of money.”
Luo Xian’er frowned slightly, a hint of helplessness in her expression. “The members of the Nine Layers Sect know nothing about this.”
Yang Shifei clicked his tongue. “So, after working all night, no progress was made?”
“Not entirely fruitless,” Luo Xian’er said, sipping her tea delicately. “The coffin you found in the Nine Layers Sect last night is the key. These materials are extremely rare, and each transaction and manufacture is recorded. We are now tracking the identity and whereabouts of the buyers, which might yield some results.”
Yang Shifei pondered, “It will be hard to find them in a sea of people.”
“There’s more.” Luo Xian’er’s eyes showed a hint of admiration. “When the news of your night raid on the Nine Layers Sect spread, the ‘Hong family,’ who were discussing matters with us at the Wang residence, showed their true colors. They were captured by the elders of various factions and revealed a lot of interesting information under questioning.”
Yang Shifei was curious, “What did they reveal?”
“People from the Yan and Qi Empires had arrived in the East City long ago. The Hong family had secretly contacted the Qi side, and this meeting was to gather intelligence.”
Luo Xian’er said softly, “The Qi Empire’s people have been found with the Hong family and are temporarily under the control of the authorities.”
Yang Shifei was astonished. “So, we caught a group of spies from an enemy state?”
“The specifics need detailed interrogation by the authorities. But undeniably, your actions last night were a great achievement.” Luo Xian’er blinked her beautiful eyes. “Many sects and clans want to meet you. Would you like to give it a try?”
“No, I’d rather not,” Yang Shifei quickly declined, waving his hands. “The current situation is chaotic. If I go and meet them, it might just invite more trouble.”
“That’s fine.” Luo Xian’er’s gaze softened. “Thank you for saving Tan Xiang last night… huh?”
The young woman suddenly stopped speaking, leaning in a bit closer. “There seem to be quite a few bite marks on your neck?”
Yang Shifei froze, then quickly covered the bite marks with an awkward smile. “The scene was chaotic last night. I might have accidentally been scratched by a weapon from the Nine Layers Sect.”
Luo Xian’er’s eyes flickered. She suddenly stood up and grabbed his wrist. “Come with me to the medicinal room.”
“It’s just a minor injury.”
“You were injured for the sake of the Luo family; I can’t ignore it.”
Luo Xian’er’s tone was unusually firm, and she walked briskly.
Feeling somewhat awkward, Yang Shifei could only follow obediently, thinking about when he should bring up the incident from last night.
Soon, he was seated on a soft couch in the medicinal room, with a cool ointment being applied to his neck.
“Does it hurt?”
“Uh, no, it doesn’t.”
“That’s good.” Luo Xian’er stood in front of Yang Shifei, bending slightly forward, her silky hair cascading down her shoulders, exuding a faint, refreshing fragrance.
Her jade-like face was as cold as ever, but her beautiful eyes carefully observed the wounds on his neck, her hands applying the ointment with gentle precision.
Yang Shifei sat upright, not daring to move, but his gaze inadvertently drifted sideways.
Today, Miss Luo was dressed in an elegant ruqun, with a small velvet shawl draped over her shoulders. The lotus-patterned collar was filled, resembling small honeydew melons, drawing his eyes irresistibly.
Up close, they seemed larger.
No, was it that Miss Luo’s attire today accentuated her figure more?
Perhaps due to the lingering sensations from last night, Yang Shifei’s thoughts wandered, his gaze instinctively shifting.
And then, he met Luo Xian’er’s gaze looking down on him.
“…”
Yang Shifei forced a stiff smile, while Luo Xian’er merely blinked, raised a delicate finger, and gently flicked his forehead.
“Young master, don’t look around.”
