Chapter 516: Chapter 515: The Fairy of Eternity is Still More Experienced_1

“One bowl for each person.” The third bowl of wontons was ready, and Lu Yang pushed it happily towards Lan Ting.

Lan Ting glanced at Tao Yaoye unintentionally and sat down gracefully as if showing off her elegant manners. Then she gently picked up a wonton with her chopsticks.

Since Senior Brother Lu chose this place, it naturally had its unique characteristics… but the wontons were really unappetising.

Lan Ting stared at the bowl of wontons in surprise. These were the worst wontons she had ever eaten.

In fact, the quality of the wontons was mediocre at best, not the worst she had experienced, but Lan Ting had been raised in an influential family, always enjoying delicacies. Even after joining the Laurel Fairy Palace, although her diet had become healthier, the food was still the best in the Cultivation World.

She naturally found the mediocre wontons from the secular world hard to swallow.

...

The stall owner was pleased to see Lu Yang ordering another bowl of wontons. Everyone in the Yuanhe County knew the wontons were awful, they always ended up swindling strangers.

He had been selling wontons for nearly thirty years, and the majority of his customers were outsiders.

Lu Yang was lucky; there was a lot of vinegar in his bowl, masking the taste of the wontons.

No matter what, since they ordered wontons, they had to eat them. The three of them finished their bowls of wontons.

Lu Yang wiped his mouth and remembered he hadn’t discussed the main issue yet. “Speaking of which, I haven’t had a chance to ask Junior Sister Lan why you are here. Were you on a mission, too?”

“Yes, a man named Mr. Song asked the Laurel Fairy Palace for help. He said his family had a strange painting. It wouldn’t burn, couldn’t be thrown away or torn up and would make eerie noises at night. It’s very dangerous.”

Tao Yaoye chimed in, “Senior Brother Lu and I are assigned the same mission. Senior Brother Lu was worried I wouldn’t be able to do it alone, so he came with me.”

Lu Yang felt a little confused, Junior Sister Tao’s words weren’t wrong, but something felt strange.

“It seems Mr. Song requested help from both of our sects.”

This was a common occurrence; those seeking help weren’t sure which sect was reliable. They would tend to issue requests to several sects, and so disciples from the Five Great Immortal Sects often wound up with the same task.

For instance, Daoist Buyu and Luo Hongxia had once been assigned the same task when they were younger. Lan Ting had heard from their master that those two were assigned to expel ghosts. They stayed at an inn for three days but couldn’t find the ghost anywhere. Eventually, they found it under Daoist Buyu’s bed. When Daoist Buyu was sleeping, the ghost would watch him from beneath the bedframe.

Then, Daoist Buyu insisted that the ghost should pay half of the room’s cost for the three days.

The ghost countered by citing Great Xia’s laws, arguing that since, legally speaking, it wasn’t a living being, it didn’t have to pay for the room.

Daoist Buyu cited the laws of Great Xia in return, arguing that ghosts don’t have human rights and cultivators are allowed to kill them on sight.

The ghost obediently split the cost of the room and was captured and taken into custody.

“Senior Brother Lu, Junior Sister Tao, have you two investigated Mr. Song’s situation?”

Tao Yaoye recounted the results of their investigation, “These are the results of our joint investigation.”

“Senior Brother Lu is amazing. He managed to investigate so much just after arriving at Yuanhe County. I’m sure Junior Sister Tao also contributed a lot. I have arrived three days earlier than Senior Brother Lu, but I only investigated a little bit more.”

“It’s a pity I was alone. If Senior Brother Lu were here to help, we would certainly have been able to investigate more.”

Tao Yaoye, appearing to miss Lan Ting’s insinuations, asked calmly, “What have you found out, Junior Sister Lan?”

“Mr. Song’s troubles began twenty years ago. Actually, his family was almost destitute at that time, with little money remaining. He staked everything he had left on business ventures, which all ended in failure. He lost everything. Some people saw him walking towards a mountain, and it seemed like he sought death. Surprisingly, half a day later, Mr. Song came down from the mountain, his expression clearer than before, carrying a painting.”

“You know the rest. Mr. Song suddenly demonstrated outstanding business acumen, and wealth came pouring in. His family was happy and fulfilled.”

Lan Ting glanced at Tao Yaoye with pride – how about that? This crucial piece of information had yet to be discovered by them.

After hearing Lan Ting’s explanation, Tao Yaoye affectionately took Lan Ting’s hand, “Junior Sister Lan, you’re so smart, managing to discover so much all on your own! It looks like you’re doing great by yourself.”

With a broad smile on her face, Lan Ting linked arms with Tao Yaoye in a friendly manner, “Oh, please, it’s no big deal. It’s always better to have more people, strength is in numbers after all. It’s a pity Senior Brother Lu came with you. If he had come with me, we would’ve completed the mission by now.”

“So you think you’re better than me?”

“Junior Sister Tao, please don’t twist my words. After all, I came three days earlier. If Senior Brother Lu had also come three days earlier with me, given his abilities, wouldn’t we have completed the mission?”

“That’s true. With Senior Brother Lu’s abilities, he could complete the mission by himself.”

The two women strolled arm in arm with the radiant smiles of reunited friends, as close to each other as real sisters.

Lu Yang didn’t pay any attention to the conversation between the two women. He was thinking about the information Lan Ting had gathered: “As expected, the problem lies with the painting.”

“Let’s go meet Mr. Song.”

The trio headed towards Mr. Song’s house. Along the way, Lan Ting kept glancing at Lu Yang.

“Junior Sister Lan, is there something on my face?”

Lan Ting chuckled, “No, I just think you are very impressive, Senior Brother. You’re so young and already the sect’s next leader. Moreover, you hosted the whole sect’s celebration. As far as I know, this is a first throughout history. Compared to you, I fall far behind.”

“Nonsense. My becoming the acting leader is all down to luck.” Lu Yang’s humility was sincere; he had become the acting leader due to his unlucky encounter with Fairy Eternity.

Noticing Lan Ting’s disappointment, Lu Yang comforted her, “Moreover, you’re very talented, Junior Sister Lan. I watched your fight with Old Meng; you were too nervous, it wasn’t a reflection of your true abilities.”

Hearing Lu Yang’s encouragement, Lan Ting’s face brightened with a smile, “That’s true. I should be more confident. After all, I was representing the Fairy Palace’s Golden Core Stage in that fight.”

“Junior Sister Tao and I hit it off right away. I initially thought we could meet each other on the fighting stage, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen, and I never had a chance to spar.”

Tao Yaoye spoke softly, “Junior Sister Lan, do you enjoy fighting so much? From what I’ve seen, you’re usually gentle and elegant, just like a well-educated lady.”

Lu Yang felt something was off and asked Fairy Eternity, “Fairy, don’t you think Junior Sister Tao and Junior Sister Lan act oddly?”

Fairy Eternity had been observing the situation in the Spiritual Space for some time and agreed that the girls’ actions and tone were strange.

“I feel like I’ve seen this before… Oh, I remember now! That’s how the geniuses from the Dragon and Phoenix tribes behaved in front of me. Complimenting and praising each other, they exhibited strong unity. They did that because they wanted me to accept them as disciples.”

“So Junior Sister Tao and Junior Sister Lan are behaving like this because…”

Fairy Eternity stated with certainty, “They must want you to accept them as disciples too. After all, you demonstrated superior capabilities at the celebration!”

“That makes sense.”
