Chapter 26: I Want to Compete
In the evening, after Yuyin finished her shower, dried her hair, and dressed up, she put on the outfit from last time and went out, but today she let her long hair down.
Upon arriving again at the waiting room outside the underground fighting arena, the buzz-cut man at the door seemed to remember her. This time, entering required a ticket, and the price wasn’t cheap—200 yuan for a regular seat.
Yuyin stepped forward and directly asked, “Hello, where do I sign up if I want to participate in the competition?”
The buzz-cut man looked at Yuyin, who was wearing sunglasses and a hat, somewhat surprised. He didn’t ask much and led her to a side door near the bar in the waiting room, which opened to an elevator.
“Take this elevator to the second floor, then turn right to room 206.”
Yuyin nodded slightly and took the elevator to the second floor.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, a fragrant aroma wafted in.
There stood a woman, about the same height as Yuyin, with long, wavy light purple hair cascading down. She wore a slightly casual yet fitted dress that accentuated her impressive figure, waiting for the elevator.
Her figure was indeed striking.
At a glance, her chest was even more exaggerated than Yuyin’s, making her waist appear even slimmer. The open neckline of her high-quality fabric dress was adorned with a shiny, delicate necklace, adding a touch of fashionable and mature femininity.
Like Yuyin, she also wore sunglasses, but just by looking at her face shape, one could tell she was a great beauty, with a hint of allure at the corners of her purple lips and a beauty mark.
The other woman had a strong presence, and after a brief pause, Yuyin gracefully stepped aside to let her pass.
However, the woman politely gestured for Yuyin to go first.
It was basic etiquette to let someone exit before entering, so Yuyin didn’t hesitate and walked out of the elevator, brushing past the woman.
Even after the elevator doors closed, the air still carried the scent of the woman, a blend of mature femininity mixed with an elegant, enchanting yet natural perfume.
“This woman… seems impressive in every way,” Yuyin thought to herself. It was only in certain high-level settings in a big city that one might encounter such formidable women.
The corridor was dimly lit, with only the innermost room on the left appearing to be open, lights on.
Yuyin arrived at the door, and sure enough, it was room 206. She knocked.
“Please come in,” said a refined middle-aged man’s voice.
Yuyin felt a bit nervous; the atmosphere felt like an interview.
She took off her sunglasses and hat, pushed the door open, as she was there to sign up and wanted to show some respect.
The room was small, with a man in a suit and earrings sitting behind a desk, busy with something.
“Hello, I want to sign up,” Yuyin said as she stood in front of the desk.
The man casually glanced up at Yuyin but immediately straightened up, his demeanor becoming gentlemanly and polite.
“Miss, are you signing up for pole dancing or as a promotional girl?” he asked very courteously.
“Eh!?” Yuyin’s whole body jolted, her face flushed with heat. Did she really look like someone who was there to sign up as a bikini promotional girl?
Yuyin adjusted her emotions and calmly said, “Sir, I am here to sign up for the underground fighting competition as an amateur contestant.”
“Huh!?!”
Now it was the refined man’s turn to be stunned.
“Ding! Successfully shocked the personnel manager of the fighting arena, earning 1 soul charm.”
“What’s wrong, sir? Can’t women compete?” Yuyin asked flatly.
“Well… they can…” The man’s sharp eyes shifted, and he quickly reacted, “Understood, please register over here.”
Regardless of whether this stunning beauty was on drugs or whatever, if she really competed, it would definitely ignite the passion in the arena. The experienced middle-aged man quickly realized this.
The man looked at the form Yuyin was filling out, noticing that she hadn’t filled in many details, but he didn’t ask further. In places like this, a true hero doesn’t inquire about origins.
“Miss Xia, may I ask what weapon you will be using?” The man’s tone revealed a hint of excessive respect stemming from condescension.
“A sword, a long sword,” Yuyin replied.
“Um, will you need to bring your own weapon? Any weapon you bring must be inspected by us before use. You know, even though this is underground fighting, we still need to ensure the safety of the contestants as much as possible. Any sharp weapons are not allowed,” the man reminded her.
“I don’t have a weapon at the moment; can you provide one?”
“Yes, we can.”
After completing the simple registration, the man called over a female intern, “Xiao Liu, take this beauty to choose a weapon.”
“Um… sir, has my registration been approved?” Yuyin asked.
“Yes,” the man nodded.
That was simpler than she had imagined.
“When can I compete?”
“It should be tomorrow night at 10. No one has signed up for the amateur challenge against professionals yet. You know, most of the beauties who signed up a few weeks ago ended up in the hospital for 5000 yuan, which really isn’t worth it. With your qualifications, we could offer you 2000 for a night as a promotional girl.”
“No need.”
“We can give you 8000 for pole dancing!”
“Sir, I want to compete,” Yuyin said earnestly.
“Alright, alright…” The man shook his head helplessly.
At that moment, a short girl wearing an oversized T-shirt approached.
“Then, beauty, you can go with Xiao Liu to choose a weapon. I’ll arrange the specific time for you and notify you shortly,” the man said.
Yuyin followed the female intern to the fighters’ exclusive training room located on the basement level.
As soon as they entered, a strong, murky smell hit them.
In the dimly lit, spacious gym, muscular men, with arms as thick as Yuyin’s waist, were working out.
Upon seeing Yuyin, they all stared at her with wide eyes. These rough men, who fought for their lives, didn’t understand shyness; some were lifting weights while drooling, while others were making various indecent gestures.
If Yuyin were wearing a short skirt and stockings instead of her loose jacket and jeans, those guys would have pounced on her!
“Hey! Girl? Are you the new ring girl? You’re beautiful!” a two-meter-tall black man in a red tank top approached her.
“Mr. Lewis, this lady is here to sign up for the fighting competition,” the female intern explained, hiding behind Yuyin.
“What!?”
All the fighting men stopped, staring at Yuyin as if witnessing a spectacle.
“You? Compete? I might as well go dance on a pole!” Lewis mimicked the moves of a pole dancer, intentionally exaggerating, which was quite eye-catching.
The muscular men nearby cheered and jeered, with many whistling at Yuyin.
“Xiao Liu, can we go choose a weapon now?” Yuyin lowered her head, too lazy to pay attention to these people.
“Ah, yes, please follow me,” Xiao Liu, startled, hurried towards an iron door. It wasn’t easy for a college student to find an internship job… She rushed a bit.
However, Yuyin, who was younger but much taller, appeared much calmer and steadier, not intimidated by those big men.
“I say, Eastern beauty, do you like foreigners? Want me to teach you how to fight tonight?”
“Beautiful lady, don’t compete; do you like hitting people? I can let you hit me, okay?”
Outside, the raucous comments grew increasingly inappropriate.
Yet Yuyin remained calm inside; there was no point in saying anything before the competition.
Following Xiao Liu to the storage room, weapons of all kinds—swords, spears, and halberds—were neatly arranged, each with a number.
Yuyin noticed that the sharp weapons were real but unsharpened, while the heavy blunt weapons were wrapped in a layer of engineering plastic, giving them a metallic feel.
That made sense; otherwise, the blunt weapons would have too much of an advantage.
Yuyin walked around and her gaze fell on a row of black tungsten long swords. After a brief observation, she picked up a long sword that was about the same length as the one in the game “God Slayer Chess.”
“Miss Xia, this sword might be too much for a girl to handle,” Xiao Liu reminded her.
“Why?”
“This is a replica of a Warring States long sword; it’s too long and heavy… for girls. We used to have female fighters here, and they would choose lighter swords and daggers, like willow leaf blades…”
“I’ll use this one.” Yuyin said without further discussion.
With a single-arm spin, the heavy long sword easily rotated on her wrist.
With a clear “clang,” it was powerfully and precisely inserted into the weapon rack.
The cold metallic sound echoed in the storage room.
