Chapter 24: Five Resurrections
This weekend, Yuyin also experienced what it was like to be a homebody. Although she was very familiar with being a recluse before her rebirth, it felt surprisingly easy.
From Friday until the early hours of Saturday, she dozed off while personally guiding Little Yuan and the monster army to explore the forests, hills, and mountains, hoping to find suitable weapon techniques. They encountered some battles, but no techniques were gained.
On Saturday morning, she woke up, took a shower, did some flexibility exercises in her room, and then began to search for techniques in the God-Eating Chess.
In the afternoon, she encountered a gray-skinned, fat pig demon wielding a wolf-toothed club and discovered a technique for using the club.
However, Yuyin felt that a wolf-toothed club was really not suitable for her, and this technique was clearly inferior in depth compared to the Ancient Temple Leg Technique.
By late at night, Yuyin’s energy value had risen to 86 due to all her pieces being deployed to sweep the forest, but aside from a meteor hammer technique that was only slightly better than the wolf-toothed club, she still hadn’t found any good techniques.
At this point, the number of Yuyin’s pieces had doubled since Friday, and aside from the upgraded two-star little ghost, she had also recruited a bull demon that she had seen a few days ago on her way home at night, carrying a large knife and stepping through the clouds above the Demon City.
This was a blue-tier bull demon, with a soul charm cost of 3, one tier higher than the green-tier demoness.
Currently, Yuyin knew of three tiers of pieces: white, green, and blue, with soul charm costs of 1, 2, and 3.
So far, Yuyin had never failed to charm a piece.
Further ahead was a misty area with mountains thousands of meters high; Yuyin didn’t know what this mountain was called, so she tentatively named it East Mountain, located three hundred miles east of the starting point.
This was a dangerous area; the little ghosts that had previously tried to enter were all killed by the things inside and returned directly to the resurrection area.
But Yuyin felt it was worth the risk; even if they all died, they could be resurrected, and the only loss would be time. Wandering around outside might waste even more time.
Moreover, her military strength had significantly improved; not only had the number of pieces doubled, but with the bull demon as a strong meat shield, their combat power was clearly enhanced.
They entered East Mountain.
East Mountain was deep and shrouded in mist, with towering ancient trees echoing with heart-pounding cries.
However, from Yuyin’s aerial perspective, it was easier to grasp the overall situation.
Inside East Mountain, there were mountain ghosts, fierce monsters clad in ancient beast aprons, wielding ancient wooden clubs or other heavy weapons. If they encountered one, they could surround and kill it, but encountering two or more would be dangerous.
There were even female mountain ghosts whose cries instilled fear in the pieces.
Not long after delving deeper, they encountered a combination of one female and two male mountain ghosts, seemingly accompanied by a snake-tailed, eagle-feathered leopard, which was quite fierce.
Yuyin wanted to command the team to retreat, but they were slower than the opponents, so they could only fight reluctantly. In the end, they killed one mountain ghost and injured another, with only Little Yuan, the demoness, and the bull demon surviving, escaping from East Mountain. The opponents did not seem to pursue them outside.
So, she had the pieces wait in a relatively safe place, and after all her pieces were resurrected, they charged back in. This fully revived army avenged themselves by killing the mountain ghosts and the leopard, settling the score.
However, this battle was not without cost; Yuyin gained a large amount of source spirits and a team of winged little snakes, which leveled up to two stars, becoming a team of greenish-blue pythons, each with two pairs of wings.
Thus, they trudged forward, constantly losing pieces and finding themselves in a dilemma.
At this point, it was already early Sunday morning.
Little Yuan led the disorganized monster army and discovered a corpse in a mountain hollow.
A corpse?
Yuyin felt puzzled; here, even demons would turn into source spirits upon death, so where did this corpse come from?
The corpse leaned against an ancient tree, already dried and weathered, with a few strands of white hair remaining. Its tattered clothing no longer revealed its former color, and an ancient bronze longsword was stabbed into the corpse’s abdomen, pinning it to the ancient tree.
“This is…”
As Yuyin’s consciousness drew closer, she noticed the corpse’s dried hands gripping the sword hilt.
“Did he stab the longsword into his own abdomen?”
“This corpse… committed suicide?”
As her consciousness approached, Yuyin felt a strong sense of fear. Clearly, she was just a consciousness and had no reason to worry about being harmed, yet she still sensed the terrifying aura emanating from this corpse.
He must have been an extraordinary strongman in life; why would such a strong person choose to end his life by suicide?
This sword…
Yuyin instructed Little Yuan to have the little ghosts approach and investigate the corpse and the sword.
Just as the little ghosts got closer, suddenly, the sword broke free from the hands and flew out from the corpse, slashing towards the little ghosts.
Swish! Swish! Swish!
It was too fast.
In a single encounter, three teams of little ghosts, including the two-star little ghost, were all slain!
The monster army was thrown into chaos, and Yuyin was completely unprepared.
The corpse had clearly been dead for many years; why did the sword still want to kill?
However, this longsword was too sharp. In the midst of Yuyin’s astonishment, it killed several more pieces. Yuyin immediately ordered the pieces to retreat, but the sword pursued from behind. The blue-tier bull demon, thinking it was the strongest in combat, swung its large knife to fight the sword, but the sword deflected the knife with a single strike, and in a flash, the bull demon was dead.
In the end, only Little Yuan managed to escape a hundred steps away. The sword did not continue to pursue but flew back to the corpse. However, at this point, the corpse’s hand was no longer firmly gripping the sword hilt.
Yuyin wanted to uncover the secret of this sword, so she had Little Yuan wait in place until the other pieces were resurrected.
Three hours later, the resurrected pieces arrived.
Yuyin instructed Little Yuan to enter again, ready for battle.
Sure enough, the sword flew out again, and this time the monster army began to attack the sword, but how much damage could their weapons inflict on an ancient, exquisite longsword?
They were simply no match, being cut down by the longsword and fleeing in all directions.
Yuyin sensed that the sword’s flight trajectory and slashing movements were somewhat strange; it didn’t resemble an ordinary flying sword but rather seemed as if an invisible swordsman was wielding it. This was the odd part.
Just as Yuyin realized this, a female voice echoed.
“Discovered ‘Beichen Sword Technique,’ would you like to start recording?”
“Yes!”
Yuyin answered without hesitation. Such a mysterious and extraordinary ancient sword must have an exceptional sword technique.
Yuyin ordered the pieces to attack the longsword without regard for losses, luring it to use different sword moves, while she began to record the sword techniques through the golden female phantom.
Only Little Yuan and the medicine girl were instructed to stand back and assist in the attack, ready to retreat to a safe distance at any time. After all, Yuyin couldn’t bear to let the girls die, even if they were pieces.
Thus, waves of monster pieces charged forward, dying and resurrecting, resurrecting and dying… After a total of five rounds of resurrection for all the monster pieces, they finally managed to completely record the ‘Beichen Sword Technique.’
At this point, it was already late Sunday night.
