Chapter 28: Chapter 27: The Battle Between Peter and Gwen

Elsewhere, still on the subway, Peter and Spider-Gwen had a general understanding of the situation at hand.

However, the subway was currently the fastest mode of transportation available to them.

There was no other choice.

Peter glanced at the station map above, silently calculating the time.

Just then, Spider-Gwen said, "About 10 to 13 minutes left."

Peter looked at her with slight surprise.

From what Spider-Gwen had mentioned before, after her friend Peter had passed away, she had lost focus on her studies and performed poorly in school. He had assumed she was a slacker.

But it seemed her self-proclaimed "slacker" status was simply modesty.

"Be careful out there. Knowing Kingpin's methods, he won't only target our side!" Shadow-Spider warned through their communicator.

Peter and Spider-Gwen both nodded in agreement. "We'll stay alert. If everything goes well, we'll hurry back as soon as possible."

A few minutes later...

Peter and Spider-Gwen had just stepped off the subway. The moment they exited the station, their Spider-Senses flared in alarm.

Without a word, the two immediately dodged in separate directions, quickly pinpointing the source of danger.

A group of thugs, dressed in gaudy outfits and wielding a variety of weapons, had surrounded them from all sides.

Recalling the message from Shadow-Spider about ten minutes ago, Peter and Spider-Gwen quickly deduced that this must be Kingpin's doing.

With Kingpin reigning as New York's underground king, gathering a gang of thugs like this was child's play for him.

And his intention was obvious:

To stall the two of them!

Worried about the situation elsewhere, Peter and Spider-Gwen didn't hesitate and immediately sprang into action.

After a morning of combat assessments—though Peter had done most of the fighting while Spider-Gwen observed—they had developed a bit of synergy.

Peter launched himself toward one of the thugs, landing a whip-like kick to his chest. The thug was sent flying several meters, crashing into a pillar before slumping down, incapacitated but not fatally injured.

Landing on his feet, Peter immediately ducked to avoid a machete and a baseball bat swinging at him from both sides.

Crossing his arms in front of his chest, he shot webs from both wrists.

Thwip!

Thwip!

The webs struck the faces of two thugs, forming sticky webs that obstructed their vision.

The impact of the webs stung slightly, but more importantly, it severely hindered their ability to see.

Instinctively, the two thugs reached up to pull the webs off their faces.

At that moment, Peter crouched low and fired another pair of webs, this time attaching them to one foot of each thug.

With a slight leap, he yanked hard on the webs.

Bang!

The two unlucky thugs were yanked together and collided violently, creating a spectacular "flesh meets egg" scene—served as a double portion.

In mid-air, Peter could almost hear the sound of eggs cracking.

The two unfortunate men, now figuratively eggless, curled up like overcooked shrimp, dropped their weapons, and clutched their lower bodies, wailing in agony.

Enemies -2

Swish! Swish!

Three or four more thugs, brandishing their weapons, charged toward Peter.

They saw him suspended in mid-air, about to descend, with seemingly no escape route.

And they had the advantage—four against one.

This felt like a sure win.

But then, Peter's right hand shot out a webline, which latched onto the subway station ceiling, halting his descent entirely.

He swung in an arc, cutting through the air.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

Three dull impacts echoed as three of the thugs were sent flying, crashing to the ground and rendered unconscious.

As for the last thug, Peter decided to grant him a special treatment.

Landing beside him, Peter first delivered a punch to his gut, leaving him doubled over and dry-heaving. Then, with a swift motion, Peter wrapped the thug in webbing, binding him tightly.

Releasing his grip, Peter let the man dangle two meters off the ground, swinging helplessly.

"Ugh!"

Just as Peter's side of the fight seemed to be going smoothly, a sudden gasp came from Spider-Gwen's direction.

Peter turned his head quickly and saw Spider-Gwen's body covered in countless iridescent, fragmented blocks.

It was rejection syndrome!

And it was happening now!

Spider-Gwen had likely approached a thug moments earlier, preparing to strike.

But the rejection reaction completely interrupted her movement, causing her to plummet to the ground and land hard.

The thug, stunned for a moment, regained his focus and swung his blade toward Spider-Gwen's neck!

"Damn it!" Peter yelled in a burst of emotion, slipping into his native tongue in his urgency.

Without hesitation, Peter abandoned his current fight and launched himself like a bullet, slamming into the thug with full force.

This strike was fueled by Peter's fury.

Although he instinctively held back some of his strength, it was still far beyond what an ordinary person could endure.

The thug was sent flying over ten meters, tumbling and sliding across the ground before coming to a stop, motionless.

Even if he somehow survived, he'd likely be left permanently crippled.

But at this moment, Peter couldn't afford to think too much.

Had he hesitated, Spider-Gwen might have already perished under that blade!

Even so, the knife still managed to graze her arm, leaving a gash.

Watching the blood gush out and stain Spider-Gwen's suit, Peter felt a surge of panic.

He had no training in first aid!

Even with a Spider-enhanced physique, excessive blood loss could still lead to serious consequences.

Suddenly, a thought sparked in his mind—he recalled a scene from a movie where Garfield-Spidey dealt with an injury.

In The Amazing Spider-Man 1, Garfield-Spidey was accidentally injured in the leg by one of his future father-in-law's overly eager subordinates.

To prevent the wound from affecting his movements, he used webbing as a makeshift bandage to temporarily seal the injury.

Thinking it through, Peter realized this made sense.

Previously, while creating his own web fluid, he had consulted everyone's web formula. One of the Spider-People, Peni Parker, who synthesized her webs using advanced technology, had explained that the web fluid was essentially an artificially engineered nanomaterial. Under normal conditions, it remained in a liquid state.

However, aside from those lacking the technology to achieve it, some Spider-People—like a certain genius young woman who preferred to stay anonymous—used cutting-edge technology to compress the web fluid further, down to the subatomic level.

During use, a frequency-modulated electric current from the web shooter activated the fluid container, releasing the nanomaterial. The nanomaterial would transition from subatomic particles to atomic particles, then to a gaseous state. As the gaseous webbing was expelled at high speed, it experienced intense friction with the atmosphere, generating heat that transformed the nanomaterial from gas to liquid, and finally into a solid.

In truth, the liquid state of the web fluid, compressed to the atomic scale, was already more than sufficient for most Spider-People.

And that was the type of liquid web fluid most Spider-People used.
