Chapter 97: Chapter 98: Blood Magic

Queen Dowager Alicent was ultimately unable to gain the forgiveness of her stepdaughter. Alicent stubbornly continued to uphold the succession of Aegon, firmly believing that he had not died. Eventually, the queen, frustrated by her persistence, had Alicent locked away in Maegor's Holdfast under house arrest.

However, Draezell and Valar did not participate in Queen Rhaenyra's coronation ceremony, which she arranged for herself. When Rhaenyra took Alicent away, Draezell, Daemon, Jacaerys, and Baela and Rhaena left the Red Keep together. After a kiss from Jacaerys, Baela immediately prepared to fly to the Vale . Although her moon dancer was only the size of a horse, it was already capable of carrying people into the sky. Prince Joffrey's purple dragon, Tyraxes, would accompany his mother, Syrax, to protect King's Landing.

Valar and Jacaerys, accompanied by young Viserys, flew back to Dragon's Nest. Jacaerys had been appointed Regent Prince by his mother, tasked with assisting Draezell in leading the South to suppress the Hightower rebels.

As for Draezell, he and Daemon flew toward Harrenhal, the core of the Riverlands. The five "finger" towers of Harrenhal could radiate throughout central Westeros, making it an ideal base for tracking down the fleeing Vhagar.

In the Godswood of Harrenhal, Draezell and Daemon quickly arrived after landing. The people of the Riverlands were mostly followers of the Seven, with the Old Gods having little presence except in the weirwood trees of Raventree. However, the Godswood was still a popular architectural feature among Southern nobles, with many lords including a small grove of trees within their castles. While not every grove had a Weirwood tree, there were always a few of those trees here and there.

The builder of Harrenhal, "Blackheart" Harren, was an Ironborn, but he had no great devotion to religion. He was more focused on constructing the miraculous castle. Thus, he transplanted several ancient Weirwood trees from the Isle of Faces into his courtyard. Unfortunately, these trees were destroyed by the Black Dread dragonflame, with only the largest surviving.

A huge face, seemingly shaped by nature, appeared on the gnarled trunk of the Weirwood tree. The massive roots dug deep into the earth, resembling the beard of an old man. Red marks flowed down from the eyes of the face, as if tears.

Draezell quickly walked to the Weirwood tree and turned to Daemon. "Daemon, cousin, is everything prepared?"

Daemon nodded: "Tese are what you want..." Damon suddenly had a bad premonition.

"Mother's blood, maternal family blood, paternal family blood, and a King's blood," Draezell gently tapped the Weirwood tree. "And a suitable amount of magical creations. Daemon, you know, I am a blood Wizard."

"That is known. Vigilance natural, Draezell," Daemon said, shaking his head with a smile. "Just like when you questioned our sincerity before." He then took out two small vials. "Alicent's blood, collected by Lady Elinda Massey. The Queen wanted to commit suicide, but she was saved by Lady Massey. This is the blood she gathered."

Draezell unsheathed his silver-blooded sword and cut a piece of bark from the Weirwood tree, signaling Daemon to pour Alicent's blood onto it. "Mother's blood, connected to her son."

As Draezell spoke, Alicent's blood, upon touching the bark of the Weirwood tree, began to merge into it. The pale bark immediately became stained with an indelible shade of crimson.

The second vial contained the blood of Gwayne Hightower, which Daemon had obtained from Luthor. Unfortunately, Gwayne had been killed by Luthor with a sword, and the blood had been taken only after his death, having coagulated by the time it was retrieved.

"Mother's blood is sufficient. The maternal family blood is merely supplementary," Draezell said, shaking his head. Daemon sighed and wiped his hand across the silver-blooded sword, allowing his own blood to drip onto the bark.

"Paternal Family blood, guiding the direction of future generations." Draezell recited the incantation in High Valyrian. As he did, the entire Weirwood tree bark turned a deep red, and the bark seemed to slowly begin melting.

"And the King's blood." Draezell turned to Daemon. "King's blood is the best material for magic." Daemon hesitated, but eventually retrieved the magical materials that Rhaenyra had given him.

"Don't worry, I won't curse the royal family. Rest assured," Draezell smiled, trying to ease the situation. "I have Targaryen blood in my veins too. Cursing you would be cursing myself. Cousin Daemon, aren't you curious about what King's blood really is?"

"I don't care about that thing," Daemon said with a bitter smile. "I'm not a blood wizard, nor a sorcerer. To me, it's no different from dragon blood."

"You're not afraid of others knowing?" Draezell asked, as he blew gently onto the tree bark. Immediately, transparent flames erupted from it, and the ancient Weirwood tree began to crackle. Draezell glanced back and saw a woman with black hair standing in the castle corridor, expressionless. The moment she locked eyes with Draezell, she suddenly clutched her head and vanished into the shadows of the castle in the blink of an eye.

"I'm not avoiding the Faceless Isle," Draezell muttered. "But I didn't expect the Old Gods to have such a presence here. Quite unexpected, indeed."

"Unexpected what?" Daemon was about to ask Draezell to elaborate when he was suddenly interrupted, left a bit confused.

"Nothing, nothing. Let's return to the topic of King's blood, cousin Daemon," Draezell laughed awkwardly. "King's blood doesn't actually refer to the blood of the person sitting on the throne. In the family's magical texts, this kind of magical material is called 'Ancient Blood' or 'Divine Blood.' Of course, the latter is more often used by the magicians themselves. Its true name is Magic Blood. According to the ancient Valyrian blood wizard, the blood of the Royal family descendent descendents of the Great Empire of the Dawn, the predecessor to the Golden Empire of Yi TI, is the most precious, followed by that of mystical creatures like dragons, Kings. In terms of effectiveness, it's similar to the blood of those mythical creatures. After that, the blood of ancient kings who ruled different lands, such as the pureblood descendants of the Green Hand's queen, pureblood Stark descendants, the high kings of the First Men, and monarchs from ancient or still-existing faraway kingdoms."

"Because they are special, they became rulers?"

Draezell nodded. "That's the origin of the concept of King's blood." The colorless flame in his hand slowly dimmed. The Weirwood tree bark in his hand had turned into two pale, blood-veined stone-like objects.

"Take this." Draezell tossed one of the stones to Daemon. "When Aemond is nearby, it will heat up. If you spot Aemond, crush it, and I'll sense it."

"What about you?" Daemon noticed that Draezell didn't seem to intend to accompany him.

"I'm going to the Faceless Isle for a quick visit," Draezell glanced towards the massive, dark tower of Harrenhal. "There's someone who's been wanting to meet me. Don't worry, I'll head off soon." Draezell was already growing excited. "Facing off with Vaghar... just thinking about it gets me pumped."

"Alright, I'll set off immediately." Daemon knew that facing Vaghar with his dragon alone might be challenging, but tracking and marking the old dragon would be no problem at all.

He wouldn't let Vagharl slip away again.

Far off, in a river valley.

A village had just been reduced to ashes, and Vaghar was devouring the charred remains of pigs and sheep. Aemond, exhausted, gnawed on a piece of burnt chicken.

"Need to think about where to go next."

Aemond's mind was racing.
